                <text>Existing influenza surveillance system is constantly improved to obtain comprehensive information for understanding of continuously changing situation with the influenza, which is a consequence of the highest variability of the pathogen, its ability to reassortment and the imminence of emergence a new shift-variants of the virus that could cause the next pandemic events. For this purpose, since the 2010 - 2011 epidemic season, in addition to the traditional surveillance system (TS) a new well standardized sentinel surveillance system (SS) for rapid clinical and epidemiological data obtaining was introduced in Russia. A total 7812 hospitalized patients with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and 9854 outpatients with influenza-like illness and acute respiratory infection (ILI/ARI) were investigated during the 6-year period in SS. Percent of SARI among all hospitalized patients ranged from 1.7 to 3.1%; about 5.3 - 7.5% SARI patients were placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Etiological monitoring using PCR showed influenza spread trends in SS similar to those registered in the TS: a clear predominance of influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 among SARI and ILI/ARI in 2010 - 2011 and 2015 - 2016 epidemic seasons, influenza A (H3N2) in the epidemic seasons 2011 - 2012 and 2014 - 2015, the co-circulation of these pathogens in 2012 - 2013, 2013 - 2014 seasons in Russia. SARI caused by influenza B virus were detected less frequently than influenza A but increased influenza B activity was registered in the epidemic of 2014 -2015, when Yamagata lineage changed suddenly for the Victorian one. The average frequency of influenza diagnosis among SARI between the seasons varied in the range 12.5 - 27.1%, at the peak of the epidemic it reached 44.8 - 73.5% and was the highest during the season with active circulation of influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 virus. The rate of influenza diagnosis among ILI/ARI has always been lower than that among SARI. Studies have also shown the importance of rhinovirus, RS-virus and parainfluenza infections in SARI development. The frequency of registration of coronaviruses, metapneumovirus and bocavirus infection was very low in SARI and ILI/ARI. It was found that in all studied seasons most of SARI patients with influenza have not been vaccinated. Among ILI/ARI outpatients with influenza, the frequency of vaccinated individuals for the entire period of the study was estimated as 10.1%, which was 4.2 times higher than that in SARI, where only 2.4% of patients were vaccinated. In addition, it was found that for all six seasons the SARI patients with influenza were treated with antivirals drugs 2 times less often compared to outpatients. Analysis of data on concomitant diseases and conditions in SARI patients with influenza confirmed the leading role of pregnancy as a risk factor for hospitalization in all influenza epidemics, irrespective of their etiology. In addition, diabetes and cardiovascular disease were recognized as risk factors for influenza associated SARI development.</text>

Auch die Provenienz dieser Drucke sowie die Quelle ihrer Herkunft werden darin besprochen. Die Thematik der besprochenen alten Drucke ist ziemlich reichhaltig. Darunter befinden sich sowohl wissenschaftliche Werke wie auch schöngeistige und religiöse Literatur sowie juristisch-politische Arbeiten. Unter den Autoren dieser Arbeiten finden sich viele Lehrer des damaligen Elbinger Gymnasiums. Die meisten Autoren der besprochenen Drucke werden in dem Artikel näher vorgestellt. Die Provenienz der Elbinger alten Drucke wurde auf der Grundlage der Erfahrung des Autors des Artikels ermittelt. Die analysierten Drucke stammen sowohl aus Institutsbibliotheken als auch aus privaten Sammlungen. Fast jeder von ihnen enthält ein Exlibris des Eigentümers, ein anderes Bücherzeichen oder sogar einen handschriftlichen Eintrag. Die besprochene Sammlung umfasst 77 Drucke, die in Elbinger Verlagshäusern herausgegeben wurden.</text>

                <text>Abstract Background Isopoda is a highly diverse order of crustaceans with more than 10,300 species, many of which are parasitic. Taxonomy and phylogeny within the order, especially those of the suborder Cymothoida Wägele, 1989, are still debated. Mitochondrial (mt) genomes are a useful tool for phylogenetic studies, but their availability for isopods is very limited. To explore these phylogenetic controversies on the mt genomic level and study the mt genome evolution in Isopoda, we sequenced mt genomes of two parasitic isopods, Tachaea chinensis Thielemann, 1910 and Ichthyoxenos japonensis Richardson, 1913, belonging to the suborder Cymothoida, and conducted comparative and phylogenetic mt genomic analyses across Isopoda. Results The complete mt genomes of T. chinensis and I. japonensis were 14,616 bp and 15,440 bp in size, respectively, with the A+T content higher than in other isopods (72.7 and 72.8%, respectively). Both genomes code for 13 protein-coding genes, 21 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and possess a control region (CR). Both are missing a gene from the complete tRNA set: T. chinensis lacks trnS1 and I. japonensis lacks trnI. Both possess unique gene orders among isopods. Within the CR of I. japonensis (284 bp), we identified a repetitive region with four tandem repeats. Phylogenetic analysis based on concatenated nucleotide sequences of 13 protein-coding genes showed that the two parasitic cymothoids clustered together and formed a basal clade within Isopoda. However, another parasitic cymothoid, Gyge ovalis Shiino, 1939, formed a sister group with the suborder Limnoriidea Brandt &amp; Poore in Poore, 2002, whereas two free-living cymothoid species were located in the derived part of the phylogram: Bathynomus sp. formed a sister group with the suborder Sphaeromatidea Wägele, 1989, and Eurydice pulchra Leach, 1815 with a clade including Bathynomus sp., Sphaeromatidea and Valvifera G. O. Sars, 1883. Conclusions Our results did not recover the suborders Cymothoida and Oniscidea Latreille, 1802 as monophyletic, with parasitic and free-living cymothoidans forming separate clades. Furthermore, two parasitic cymothoidans formed the sister-clade to all other isopods, separated from Epicaridea Latreille, 1825, which challenges currently prevalent isopod phylogeny. Additional mt genomes of parasitic and free-living isopods might confer a sufficient phylogenetic resolution to enable us to resolve their relationships, and ultimately allow us to better understand the evolutionary history of the entire isopod order.</text>

                <text>Etiology of respiratory virus infections among 1699 hospitalized patients (HP) was determined by PCR during the period of increased influenza activity in 2012 - 2013 season. The rate of accidence of influenza virus in dependence of gender, age, social and demographic factors and previous vaccination was analysed. Young children dominated in the age structure of HP, while the elderly were hospitalized very rarely. According to results obtained rate of influenza detection in HP was significantly higher among adults in comparison with children (63,5 and 30,7% of investigated patients, correspondingly). Respiratory syncytial virus and rhinoviruses were detected the most regularly (8.7 and 3.1%, correspondingly) in children, parainfluenza and adenoviruses were registered rarely (1.4 and 2.1%, correspondingly). Rate of detection of coronaviruses and bocavirus was low and varied in the range 0.3 - 0.6%. Indicated above ARI agents among hospitalized adults were detected rarely (0 - 1.5%) with exception of RSV which was detected among elderly (75 - 84 years) in 5.9% cases. No metapneumovirus cases were detected among HP in indicated period. Although males dominated (58%) among HP influenza cases, regardless of the type/subtype, were registered more frequently among girls in comparison with the boys of the same age groups. Influenza cases were registered more frequenly as well among smoking than in not smoking patients. Young children dominated in the age structure of HP, while the elderly were hospitalized very rarely.</text>

                <text>Abstract Background We investigated the association of symptoms and disease severity of shigellosis patients with genetic determinants of infecting Shigella and entero-invasive Escherichia coli (EIEC), because determinants that predict disease outcome per individual patient could be used to prioritize control measures. For this purpose, genome wide association studies (GWAS) were performed using presence or absence of single genes, combinations of genes, and k-mers. All genetic variants were derived from draft genome sequences of isolates from a multicenter cross-sectional study conducted in the Netherlands during 2016 and 2017. Clinical data of patients consisting of binary/dichotomous representation of symptoms and their calculated severity scores were also available from this study. To verify the suitability of the methods used, the genetic differences between the genera Shigella and Escherichia were used as control. Results The isolates obtained were representative of the population structure encountered in other Western European countries. No association was found between single genes or combinations of genes and separate symptoms or disease severity scores. Our benchmark characteristic, genus, resulted in eight associated genes and &gt; 3,000,000 k-mers, indicating adequate performance of the algorithms used. Conclusions To conclude, using several microbial GWAS methods, genetic variants in Shigella spp. and EIEC that can predict specific symptoms or a more severe course of disease were not identified, suggesting that disease severity of shigellosis is dependent on other factors than the genetic variation of the infecting bacteria. Specific genes or gene fragments of isolates from patients are unsuitable to predict outcomes and cannot be used for development, prioritization and optimization of guidelines for control measures of shigellosis or infections with EIEC.</text>

                <text>BACKGROUND:The individual and combined contribution of viral prevalence in the community to Emergency Department (ED) visits and hospitalizations with respiratory tract infections (RTIs), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma is unclear. METHODS:A retrospective analysis on daily viral positive tests and daily ED visits and hospitalizations between 01/01/2003 to 31/12/2013 in Ontario, Canada. Viral data was collected from the Centre for Immunization and Respiratory Infectious Diseases (CIRID). The Canadian Institute for Health Information reports daily ED visits and hospitalizations for RTIs, COPD and asthma as a primary diagnosis. RESULTS:There were 4,365,578 ED visits with RTIs of which 321,719 (7.4%) were admitted to hospital; 817,141 ED visits for COPD of which 260,665 (31.9%) were admitted and 649,666 ED visits with asthma of which 68,626 (10.6%) were admitted. The percentage of positive tests to influenza A and B, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza and adenovirus prevalence explained 57.4% of ED visits and 63.8% of hospitalizations for RTI, 41.4% of ED visits and 39.2% of hospitalizations with COPD but only 1.5% of ED visits and 2.7% of hospitalizations for asthma. The further addition of human metapneumovirus, rhinovirus and coronavirus over the final 3 years accounted for 66.7% of ED visits and 74.4% of hospitalizations for RTI, 52.5% of visits and 48.2% of hospitalizations for COPD, and only 13.3% of visits and 10.4% of hospitalizations for asthma. CONCLUSIONS:Community respiratory viral epidemics are major drivers of ED visits and hospitalizations with RTIs and COPD but only a modest contributor to asthma.</text>

                <text>Antibodies are essential to functional immunity, yet the epitopes targeted by antibody repertoires remain largely uncharacterized. To aid in characterization, we developed a generalizable strategy to predict antibody-binding epitopes within individual proteins and entire proteomes. Specifically, we selected antibody-binding peptides for 273 distinct sera out of a random library and identified the peptides using next-generation sequencing. To predict antibody-binding epitopes and the antigens from which these epitopes were derived, we tiled the sequences of candidate antigens into short overlapping subsequences of length k (k-mers). We used the enrichment over background of these k-mers in the antibody-binding peptide dataset to predict antibody-binding epitopes. As a positive control, we used this approach, termed K-mer Tiling of Protein Epitopes (K-TOPE), to predict epitopes targeted by monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies of well-characterized specificity, accurately recovering their known epitopes. K-TOPE characterized a commonly targeted antigen from Rhinovirus A, predicting four epitopes recognized by antibodies present in 87% of sera (n = 250). An analysis of 2,908 proteins from 400 viral taxa that infect humans predicted seven enterovirus epitopes and five Epstein-Barr virus epitopes recognized by &gt;30% of specimens. Analysis of Staphylococcus and Streptococcus proteomes similarly predicted 22 epitopes recognized by &gt;30% of specimens. Twelve of these common viral and bacterial epitopes agreed with previously mapped epitopes with p-values &lt; 0.05. Additionally, we predicted 30 HSV2-specific epitopes that were 100% specific against HSV1 in novel and previously reported antigens.                 <text>Abstract An ongoing outbreak of 2019-nCoV pneumonia was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei province, China at the end of 2019. With the spread of the new coronavirus accelerating, person-to-person transmission in family homes or hospitals, and intercity spread of 2019-nCoV occurred. At least 40,261 cases confirmed, 23,589 cases suspected, 909 cases death and 3444 cases cured in China and worldwide 24 countries confirmed 383 cases being diagnosed, 1 case death in February 10th, 2020. At present, the mortality of 2019-nCoV in China is 2.3%, compared with 9.6% of SARS and 34.4% of MERS reported by WHO. It seems the new virus is not as fatal as many people thought. Chinese authorities improved surveillance network, made the laboratory be able to recognize the outbreak within a few weeks and announced the virus genome that provide efficient epidemiological control. More comprehensive information is required to understand 2019-nCoV feature, the epidemiology of origin and spreading, and the clinical phenomina. According to the current status, blocking transmission, isolation, protection, and alternative medication are the urgent management strategies against 2019-nCoV.</text>

                <text>The high mutation rates of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) pose economic threats to the poultry industry. In order to track the genetic evolutionary of IBV isolates circulating in yellow chickens, we continued to conduct the genetic analyses of the structural genes S1, E, M, and N from 64 IBV isolates in southern China during 2009&amp;#8722;2017. The results showed that the dominant genotypes based on the four genes had changed when compared with those during 1985&amp;#8722;2008. Based on the S1 gene phylogenetic tree, LX4-type (GI-19) was the most dominant genotype, which was different from that during 1985&amp;#8722;2008. The second most dominant genotype was LDT3-A-type, but this genotype disappeared after 2012. New-type 1 (GVI-1) isolates showed increasing tendency and there were four aa (QKEP) located in the hypervariable region (HVR) III and one aa (S) insertion in all the New-type 1 isolates. Both the analyses of amino acid entropy and molecular evolutionary rate revealed that the variations from large to small were S1, E, M, and N. Purifying selection was detected in the S1, E, M, and N gene proteins, which was different from the positive selection during 1985&amp;#8722;2008. Six isolates were confirmed to be recombinants, possibly generated from a vaccine virus of the 4/91-type or LDT3-A-type and a circulating virus. The estimated times for the most recent common ancestors based on the S1, E, M, and N genes were the years of 1744, 1893, 1940, and 1945, respectively. Bayesian skyline analysis revealed a sharp decrease in genetic diversity of all the four structural genes after 2010 and since late 2015, the viral population rapidly rose. In conclusion, the IBVs circulating in southern China over the past decade have experienced a remarkable change in genetic diversity, dominant genotypes, and selection pressure, indicating the importance of permanent monitoring of circulating strains and the urgency for developing new vaccines to counteract the emerging LX4-type and New-type IBVs.</text>
