El objeto del presente artículo es reformular el papel de la biblioteca en América Latina considerando las particularidades históricas y culturales de la región. A partir de una aproximación filosófica y antropológica, se plantea la perspectiva de la decolonización del conocimiento como un mecanismo para transformar el modelo epistémico existente, el cual privilegia los conocimientos occidentales sobre los no-occidentales. Se discuten las implicaciones que tiene la noción de razón instaurada por la Europa moderna, la cual terminó de desvalorizar los conocimientos o saberes tradicionales, marginalizados desde tiempos de la Colonia. Por tanto, también se hace necesaria una reflexión crítica sobre el discurso de la gestión del conocimiento. Se defiende a la biblioteca como una institución social y democrática, donde converja una ecología de saberes, en la cual puedan coexistir diversas formas de producción de conocimiento y, al mismo tiempo, que permita recuperar los valores y las manifestaciones culturales de los pueblos originarios. Finalmente se amplía la visión de la Biblioteca Multicultural, formalmente reconocida por la IFLA y la Unesco en el año 2008, institución pensada para integrar cosmovisiones y prácticas de poblaciones con características culturales diversas.

El propósito de esta investigación es conocer la dinámica de Schroederia setigera en las escalas espacial y temporal, determinar cuáles son las causas próximas de su dinámica poblacional, y localizar el organismo en el sistema de Asociaciones de Reynolds y en el de Grupos Morfo-Funcionales. La investigación fue efectuada en el embalse Riogrande II (6°35'57'' - 6°28'79'' Norte, 75º32'17'' - 75° 25'85'' Oeste) cuyo tiempo medio de retención es de 72.8 días. En él se muestrearon cinco estaciones a intervalos quincenales durante un año (julio 2002 a julio 2003) en las que se obtuvieron datos de tres variables climáticas, cinco físicas y 15 químicas. Para la especie se calcularon sus tasas media de crecimiento y renovación, el tiempo de generación medio, el tipo de crecimiento, y la disposición espacial y temporal. Para la relación entre las variables biológicas y las ambientales se utilizó un Análisis de Redundancia (RDA). En el tiempo el alga se ajustó a un patrón de tres 'picos' ocurridos en los periodos de menor pluviosidad en los que efectivamente los nutrientes se concentraron, el clima de luz se afectó. En las cinco estaciones la especie estuvo agrupada, y en el espacio su disposición fue aleatoria. Los primeros cuatro ejes del RDA incluyeron NO3-, SiO2, pH, SS, y %SO2, coeficiente de atenuación vertical para irradiancia descendente, Clorofila y diferentes competidores. S. setigera es un estratega tipo C que, al igual que otras clorococales, es un taxón característico de sistema eutróficos, poseedor de altas tasas de crecimiento y de cambio, tiempo de generación relativamente corto, y patrón de distribución temporal de contagio, por ende, regida por una ecología de no-equilibrio, más concentrada en los periodos de menor pluviosidad en los que efectivamente los nutrientes se concentraron y el clima de luz se afectó. En el espacio la especie mostró una distribución aleatoria debida al régimen de corrientes en el embalse. Es además una especie no limitada por recursos, que responde adaptándose al clima óptico del cuerpo de agua con su con su sección circular elíptica, su forma acicular y atenuada hacia ambos extremos, que la sitúan como una buena antena captadora de luz.; por ello, puede incluirse en la asociación J o en la X1 y en el Grupo morfo-funcional IV.

Antecedentes: En años recientes la demanda de productos alimenticios percibidos como ''naturales'' se ha incrementado de manera importante, los cuales no contienen dentro de sus ingredientes conservantes o aditivos de origen químico o artificial. Al retirar de la fórmula estos conservantes/aditivos artificiales se puede generar en el producto un medio ideal de crecimiento de bacterias alterantes o patógenas. Esto es particularmente cierto en productos cárnicos procesados empacados al vacío, donde su alta actividad acuosa, bajo pH y un largo periodo de almacenamiento a condiciones de refrigeración generan un ambiente ideal para el crecimiento de microorganismos patógenos como Listeria monocytogenes. Por tanto, esto genera la necesidad de nuevas y efectivas tecnologías que permitan su control y eliminación. Los Bio-Conservantes (adición de bacterias vivas a los productos cárnicos) ofrecen una solución ideal a este tipo de problemas directamente relacionados con la seguridad alimentaria, y a la vez satisfacen la demanda por parte de los consumidores de productos saludables. Objetivos: Determinar si el cultivo C. maltaromaticum CB1 puede controlar el crecimiento de una cepa nativa de L. monocytogenes en morcilla y chorizo empacados al vacío (película de baja permeabilidad al oxigeno). Métodos: Tres lotes diferentes de chorizo y morcilla producidos a nivel industrial fueron posteriormente inoculados con una cepa nativa de L. monocytogenes a un nivel de 10² UFC/g junto con el bio-conservante C. maltaromaticum CB1 a un nivel de 10³ UFC/g. A los tratamientos denominados como control no se les aplicó el bio-conservante. Después de ser empacados al vacío, los productos fueron almacenados a dos temperaturas diferentes de 4°C (refrigeración) y 8°C (abuso de temperatura) durante 35 días. En intervalos de 7 días se hizo recuentos del crecimiento de la L. monocytogenes utilizando agar Oxford. Resultados: Se obtuvo una reducción significativa (P < 0.05) en los recuentos de L. monocytogenes tanto en la morcilla como en el chorizo tratados con bio-conservante C. maltaromaticum CB1 y almacenados a 4°C y 8°C respectivamente, en comparación con los productos denominados control. Conclusiones: La cepa de C. maltaromaticum CB1 demostró ser efectiva en el control del crecimiento de la cepa nativa de L. monocytogenes en chorizo y morcilla.

A study was carried out to evaluate the potential use of the two-source Shuttleworth and Wallace (SW) model to compute the intra-orchard spatial variability of actual evapotranspiration (ET) of olive trees using satellite images and ground-based climate data. The study was conducted in a drip-irrigated olive orchard using satellite images (Landsat 7 ETM+), which were acquired on clear sky days during the main phenological stages (2009/10 growing season). The performance of the SW model was evaluated using instantaneous latent heat flux (LE) measurements that were obtained from an eddy correlation system. At the time of satellite overpass, the estimated values of net radiation ( Rn i ) and soil heat flux ( G i ) were compared with ground measurements from a four-way net radiometer and soil heat flux plates, respectively. The results indicated that the SW model subestimated instantaneous LE (W m−2) and daily ET (mm d−1), with errors of 12% and 10% of observed values, respectively. The root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) values for instantaneous LE were 26 and 20 W m−2, while those for daily values of ET were 0.31 and 0.28 mm d−1, respectively. Finally, the submodels computed Rn i and G i with errors of between 4.0% and 8.0% of measured values and with RMSE and MAE between 25 and 39 W m−2.

RESUMENEn una comunidad de pastizal dominada por Anthoxanthum odoratum, Hypochaeris radicatayHolcus lanatus, se creó un disturbio de claros experimentales de diferentes tamaños, con el fin deencontrar los patrones de abundancias de especies y mecanismos que éstas utilizan en la su-cesión. Se cuantificaron las variables respuesta: riqueza, abundancias, coberturas, formasde vida, formas de crecimiento, formas de dispersión y se describieron las fases del ciclo de vidadurante 7 meses de muestreo en campo. La riqueza de especies en los claros, como fenómenoespacial, se describió por la relación especies-área utilizando la función de poder S = cAz , segúnla cual las poblaciones en los claros experimentales están controladas por las especiescolonizadoras En cuanto al efecto de los tamaños de claro sobre la diversidad de especies,resultó ser mayor en claros superiores a 1 m2, el análisis de los porcentajes de cobertura deespecies en los claros mostró dos tipos de interacciones entre especies: competencia ycoexistencias, dadas por diferentes rasgos de historia de vida y reflejadas por la presencia delos modelos: facilitación, tolerancia e inhibición descritos por Connell y Slatyer (1977); encuanto al patrón de regeneración de las especies en los claros, se observó la regeneración enmosaico descrita por Aubreville (1938) (Citado por: Connell y Slatyer, 1977), y respecto a lospatrones de abundancias de especies, se observaron tendencias hacia: convergencia, reemplazopseudocíclico y supresión total las cuales variaron según el tamaño de claro experimental ydescritas por Huston y Smith (1987).

The current study isolated and characterized the Lip3F9 polypeptide sequence of Deschampsia antarctica Desv. (GeneBank Accession Number JX846628), which was found to be comprised of 291 base pairs and was, moreover, expressed in Pichia pastoris X-33 cells. The enzyme was secreted after 24 h of P. pastoris culture incubation and through induction with methanol. The expressed protein showed maximum lipase activity (35 U/L) with an optimal temperature of 37 °C. The lipase-expressed enzyme lost 50% of its specific activity at 25 °C, a behavior characteristic of a psychrotolerant enzyme. Recombinant enzyme activity was measured in the presence of ionic and non-ionic detergents, and a decrease in enzyme activity was detected for all concentrations of ionic and non-ionic detergents assessed.

La Vulnerabilidad Agrícola (VA) es el resultado de la medición de la variabilidad climática dentro de un contexto de vulnerabilidad social y sectorial, que ha ido agregando conceptos e indicadores que enriquecen y complementan el análisis de la seguridad alimentaria, en el entendido que la disponibilidad de un pronóstico corresponde no solo al derecho primordial de cualquier ser humano, sino a la supervivencia del mismo. Los estudios de comunidades de zooplancton son de gran importancia para la biología, ecología y conservación del ecosistema marino. Sin embargo, estas investigaciones implican un proceso de alto costo en términos de tiempo y esfuerzo, requiriendo personal entrenado para la identificación, conteo y medición de numerosos grupos taxonómicos, así como para la estimación de biomasa. Actualmente, existe un creciente interés por la implementación de nuevas técnicas que permitan automatizar los análisis, incorporando tecnología informática aplicada al examen automático de imágenes digitalizadas. En este trabajo se revisa el estado del conocimiento de algunas metodologías, basadas en el estudio de imágenes digitalizadas de zooplancton. Se presenta una descripción general de los métodos conocidos, tales como ZooScan-ZooProcess y Zoolmage, se analizan sus resultados para la identificación de distintos zooplancteres, se comparan con el método tradicional y se hacen propuestas para mejorar su aplicación. Adicionalmente, se resumen las experiencias con estos sistemas en el análisis de patrones de variabilidad espacial y temporal de la comunidad zooplanctónica, basados en el espectro de tamaño y pruebas para la estimación de biomasa de zooplancton. Finalmente, se elabora un listado de capacidades y limitaciones registradas en la bibliografía reciente, y se discute sobre las perspectivas de desarrollo y aplicación que ofrece esta metodología para la comunidad científica en Latinoamérica.

Com o objetivo de descrever os padrões das associações entre espécies de peixes e sua distribuição nos ambientes lóticos ao nível da bacia, foram realizadas amostragens em 27 locais na bacia do rio Iguatemi-MS, distribuídas em quatro ambientes (rio Iguatemi, rio Jogui, rio Puitã e riachos). Os dados de presença/ausência das espécies que ocorreram em dois ou mais locais foram submetidos a métodos multivariados com o objetivo de descrever os principais padrões de associação entre espécies. A distribuição das espécies foi considerada determinística nessas comunidades (C-score = 17,33; P = 0,000), existindo diferença significativa entre os ambientes estudados (ANOSIM r = 0,082; P = 0,012), sendo constatada diferença entre rio Iguatemi e riachos (P = 0,001) e riachos e rio Jogui (P = 0,014). Constatamos uma clara segregação entre as espécies de riachos de cabeceiras e de trechos mais caudalosos dos rios ou mesmo de riachos com maior vazãoThe aim of this paper is to describe the patterns of associations between fish species and their distribution in lotic habitats at basin level. Samples were accomplished in 27 localities of Iguatemi river basin, distributed in four environments (Iguatemi river, Jogui river, Puitã river and streams). The presence/absence data of those species which occurred in 2 or more sites were submitted at multivariate methods with the aim to describe the major species associations. The species distribution was considered determinative in these communities (C-score = 17,33; P = 0,000), with significant difference among the studied environments (ANOSIM r = 0,082; P = 0,012), with verified difference between Iguatemi river and streams (P = 0,001) and also streams and Jogui river (P = 0,014). We verified a strong segregation among species from headstreams and more discharge river stretches or even larger streams

Al día de hoy, en Bogotá D.C. se generan grandes cantidades de residuos sólidos de origen vegetal, ya sea por perdidas en los centros de poscosecha o por despojos generados en establecimientos comerciales tales como restaurantes, centros comerciales, supermercados entre otros; muchos de estos contienen altos niveles de lignina, especialmente las maderas en forma de aserrines y virutas, también los bagazos y cáscaras procedentes de frutas y hortalizas, al igual que los residuos procedentes de la preparación de tazas de café. Estos materiales son óptimos en la preparación de sustratos para la producción del hongo Pleurotus ostreatus, ya que este presenta gran capacidad lignocelulósica; por otra parte, el organismo presenta buenas propiedades nutricionales y medicinales para el consumo humano, siendo un medio muy eficaz para el aprovechamiento de subproductos de origen vegetal.
