The objective of this work was to evaluate forage nutritive value by determining the crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) from forage submitted to some agro-ecologic practices. Two paddocks, each one with 0.15 ha, were used in the evaluation. The elephantgrass was planted in 2001, spaced 3 m between rows. Mixture of oat and ryegrass during the winter period and spontaneous growing species in the summer period has been planted/left between the rows. It was applied organic fertilizer in the rate of 150 kg/ha of N. Seven grazing cycles were carried out during the experimental period from 04/24/2004 to 05/05/2005. Holstein cows receiving 3.5 kg/daily complementary concentrate feed were used in the evaluation. The initial forage mass, the botanical composition, and the structural components of elephantgrass pastures were evaluated. Hand-plucked samples were collected to analyze the nutritive value. The experimental design utilized was randomized blocks, with two replicates (paddocks) and seven treatments (grazings along the time). The best results for nutritive value were found during the winter period. Negative correlations between CP with IVDMD and positive between NDF with elephantgrass leaf lamina biomass were found. The elephantgrass pasture, managed under agro-ecologic principles, showed high nutritional value and productivity, both during the summer and during the winter, making the animal production more sustainable along the year.</text>

<text>Apple production in the Sierra de Arteaga, Coahuila is mainly based on the Golden Delicious cultivar.Production based on only a few cultivars represents a genetic risk, because if they are susceptible to a pest, diseaseor climate change much of this production would be lost if one or more of these conditions occurred. Foreseeing thissituation, farmers have introduced dierent commercial apple cultivars, but there is little information about the geneticdiversity among them. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate the rates of intraspecic genetic diversity of 12dierent apple cultivars using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) molecular markers. Employing nine ISSR primers,it was possible to identify 124 DNA bands, of which 63% were polymorphic, with genetic diversity of 0.24. Resultssuggest that these cultivars are adapted to the region's climate and can be utilized to increase the overall plantationarea, in order not to depend on a single cultivar.</text>

The objective of this work was to assess organic and mineral fertilization effects on growth and yield of castor bean (Ricinus communis), applying doses of manure, P, K and micronutrients on a chemically poor soil, under low water supply, in a randomized block design with three replications, and factorial arrangement of 3x2+4 (three manure doses, absence or presence of mineral fertilizer, plus four manure, mineral fertilizer and micronutrients combinations). Values for mean yield were: 163.7 kg ha-1, for treatment without any fertilization, and 596.9, 988.1 and 1,172.5 kg ha-1, for treatments with organic, mineral and organic + mineral, respectively. P is the most important nutrient for increasing yield and oil content. Low water supply limits mineralization and nutrients releasing from organic amendments.</text>

Organic fertilization levels on the vegetative growth of moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.)Abstract: Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam) is a tree native of India and high importance especially for its nutritional value, medicinal and water purification. This work aimed to evaluate the effect of organic fertilization levels on growth and initial development of moringa seedlings in semi-arid conditions of the State of Paraiba, Brazil. The experiment was conducted in plastic tunnel conditions, located in the Centro de Ciências e tecnologia Agroalimentar da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Campus de Pombal, UFCG. We used a completely randomized design with the treatments composed of seven levels of organic fertilization (0,0; 108,0; 216,0; 432,0; 864,0; 1728,0 e 3456,0 g.vaso-1), with four repetitions. The following parameters were evaluated: i) plant height (cm), ii) stem diameter (mm), iii) number of leaves, iv) fresh weight of leaves, v) dry weight of shoots (g), vi) dry weight of the root (g), vii) dry weight ratio of shoot / root (g) and viii) main root length (cm). The use of organic fertilization levels significantly influenced the growth and early development of moringa seedlings. With the rise of manure levels added to the substrate, there was the decrease of the variables analyzed, with a best result the level of 864.0 g.vaso-1 for plant height and the level of 432.0 g.vaso-1 for the other parameters. The level of 432.0 g.vaso-1 caused the greatest increases in dry weight of shoot and root length. The levels of bovine manure 108.0 g.vaso-1 and 432.0 g.vaso-1, promoted a greater increase for the ratio of root / shoot and root length, respectively. To produce good quality moringa seedlings the application of small amounts of bovine manure is sufficient.</text>
