These plants frequently battle sub-zero temperatures, extreme winds and reduced water availability; all influencing their ability to survive and grow. Antarctic mosses, however, can have canopy temperatures well above air temperature. At midday, canopy temperatures can exceed 15°C, depending on moss turf water content. In this study, the optimum temperature of photosynthesis was determined for six Antarctic moss species: Bryum pseudotriquetrum, Ceratodon purpureus, Chorisodontium aciphyllum, Polytrichastrum alpinum, Sanionia uncinata, and Schistidium antarctici collected from King George Island (maritime Antarctica) and/or the Windmill Islands, East Antarctica. Both chlorophyll fluorescence and gas exchange showed maximum values of electron transport rate occurred at canopy temperatures higher than 20°C. The optimum temperature for both net assimilation of CO2 and photoprotective heat dissipation of three East Antarctic species was 20–30°C and at temperatures below 10°C, mesophyll conductance did not significantly differ from 0. Maximum mitochondrial respiration rates occurred at temperatures higher than 35°C and were lower by around 80% at 5°C. Despite the extreme cold conditions that Antarctic mosses face over winter, the photosynthetic apparatus appears optimised to warm temperatures. Our estimation of the total carbon balance suggests that survival in this cold environment may rely on a capacity to maximize photosynthesis for brief periods during summer and minimize respiratory carbon losses in cold conditions. Os estoques de C foram influenciados pelos diferentes agroecossistemas, sendo que na camada de 0 a 20 cm foram de (Mg m-3): 24,79 (SAF); 42,71 (CAC); 41,30 (PAS); 36,07 (FLN), e na camada de 20 a 40 cm foram (Mg m-3): 17,26 (SAF); 31,06 (CAC); 22,31 (PAS); 25,49 (FLN). Camarero Description An account of the resource Systematic forest networks of health monitoring have been established to follow changes in tree vigor and mortality. These networks often lack long-term growth data, but they could be complemented with tree ring data, since both defoliation and radial growth are proxies of changes in tree vigor. For instance, a severe water shortage should reduce growth and increase tree defoliation in drought-prone areas. However, the effects of climatic stress and drought on growth and defoliation could also depend on tree age. To address these issues, we compared growth and defoliation data with recent climate variability and drought severity in Abies pinsapo old and young trees sampled in Southern Spain, where a systematic health network (Andalucía Permanent Plot Network) was established. Our aims were: (i) to assess the growth sensitivity of old and young A. pinsapo trees and (ii) to test if relative changes in radial growth were related with recent defoliation, for instance, after severe droughts. We also computed the resilience indices to quantify how old and young trees recovered growth after recent droughts. Wet-cool conditions during the prior autumn and the current early summer improved the growth of old trees, whereas late-spring wet conditions enhanced the growth of young trees. Old trees were more sensitive to wet and sunny conditions in the early summer than young trees. Old and young trees were more responsive to the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index drought index of June–July and July–August calculated at short (one–three months) and mid (three–six months) time scales, respectively. Old trees presented a higher resistance to a severe drought in 1995 than young trees. A positive association was found between stand defoliation and relative growth. Combining monitoring and tree ring networks is useful for the detection of early warning signals of dieback in similar drought-prone forests. En este sentido el propósito de este artículo de revisión bibliográfica es dar a conocer los efectos que está causando el cambio climático en fincas cafetaleras de pequeños agricultores de Perú, así como las alternativas de solución. Se concluye que el cambio climático está afectando negativamente a los cultivos de café, a través de la introducción de enfermedades tales como la roya en el año 2013 y 2014 disminuyo la producción de café en 109.500 toneladas (t), el afecto incidió a la variedad de café typica. En consecuencia, las familias han tenido que adaptarse a convivir con la roya, con una tendencia de implementar nuevas parcelas de café, sembradas por encima de los (1500 nsnm). Así mismo el precio del café es inestable, para el año 2013-2014 se mantuvo S/ 6.33 a S/ 4.89 por kg. Frente a las dificultades que hubo, el estado peruano ha incentivado a la siembra de café (catimor) desde el 2014 hasta el año 2018, se incrementó en 79.755 hectáreas de cultivo. Una nueva generación de adolescentes y jóvenes han logrado llamar la atención de la sociedad sobre el reto del cambio climático, requiriendo a los gobernantes valentía para tomar medidas suficientes para cumplir con El Acuerdo de París, señalando a la ciencia como referente. Este hito histórico ha tenido a Greta Thunberg como rostro del movimiento estudiantil Fridays For Future junto a otras organizaciones. El objetivo general del presente artículo es estudiar la representación que ofrecen los medios de comunicación del activismo ambiental llevado a cabo por los jóvenes frente a la emergencia climática. La metodología empleada ha sido el análisis de contenido en televisión y en prensa a partir de un muestreo estructural. Entre los efectos de las movilizaciones juveniles, apoyadas por ciudadanía adulta, se pueden encontrar: un volumen inaudito de movimientos ciudadanos por el clima a nivel mundial, europeo y nacional; la identificación de la causa ambiental por parte de toda una generación; y haber logrado uno de sus objetivos: que se declarara institucionalmente la emergencia climática.
