OBJETIVO: Analisar a evolução recente das competências científicas na área de saúde, o efeito das linhas de fomento na redução dos desequilíbrios científicos regionais e a interação universidade-empresas entre os grupos de pesquisa em saúde no Brasil. MÉTODOS: As informações utilizadas foram provenientes das bases de dados do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, referentes aos anos de 2000 a 2010. Foram calculados indicadores relativos à mobilização de recursos, à estruturação de grupos de pesquisa e à realização de esforços para transferência de conhecimentos entre a esfera científica e o setor empresarial. RESULTADOS: Com base no mapa da distribuição regional das competências técnico-científicas na área de saúde, foram identificados possíveis padrões de especialização científica e os padrões de interação entre a comunidade científica e o setor empresarial. Houve relativa desconcentração espacial dos grupos de pesquisa em saúde e seis áreas de conhecimento eram responsáveis por mais de 6% dos grupos de pesquisa em saúde, pela ordem: Medicina, Saúde Coletiva, Odontologia, Medicina Veterinária, Ecologia e Educação Física. Os incentivos representados pelas linhas de fomento no período 2000-2009 contribuíram para reduzir os desequilíbrios científicos regionais, induzindo o aprofundamento de competências pré-existentes ou, alternativamente, estimulando a descentralização espacial dessas competências. CONCLUSÕES: Ainda persiste uma concentração espacial elevada das competências técnico-científicas em saúde e os incentivos de política têm contribuído apenas parcialmente para reduzir esses desequilíbrios.OBJETIVO: Analizar la evolución reciente de las competencias científicas en el área de la salud, el efecto de las líneas de fomento en la reducción de los desequilibrios científicos regionales y la interacción universidad-empresas entre los grupos de investigación en salud en Brasil. MÉTODOS: Las informaciones utilizadas fueron tomadas de las bases de datos del Consejo Nacional de Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico de Brasil, referentes a los años 2000 y 2010. Se calcularon indicadores relativos a la movilización de recursos, a la estructuración de grupos de investigación y a la realización de esfuerzos para transferencia de conocimientos entre la esfera científica y el sector empresarial. RESULTADOS: Con base en el mapa de la distribución regional de las competencias técnico-científicas en el área de salud, se identificaron posibles patrones de especialización científica y los patrones de interacción entre la comunidad científica y el sector empresarial. Hubo relativa desconcentración espacial de los grupos de investigación en salud y seis áreas de conocimiento eran responsables por más de 6% de los grupos de investigación en salud, por el orden: Medicina, Salud Colectiva, Odontología, Medicina Veterinaria, Ecología y Educación Física. Los incentivos representados por las líneas de fomento en el período 2000-2009 contribuyeron para reducir los desequilibrios científicos regionales, induciendo la profundización en competencias pre-existentes o, alternativamente, estimulando la descentralización espacial de tales competencias. CONCLUSIONES: Aún persiste una concentración espacial elevada de las competencias técnico-científicas en salud y los incentivos de política han contribuido sólo parcialmente en la reducción de estos desequilibrios.OBJECTIVE: To examine recent developments in health-related scientific capabilities, the impact of lines of incentives on reducing regional scientific imbalances, and university-industry research collaboration in Brazil. METHODS: Data were obtained from the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) databases for the years 2000 to 2010. There were assessed indicators of resource mobilization, research network structuring, and knowledge transfer between science and industry initiatives. RESULTS: Based on the regional distribution map of health-related scientific and technological capabilities there were identified patterns of scientific capabilities and science-industry collaboration. There was relative spatial deconcentration of health research groups and more than 6% of them worked in six areas of knowledge areas: medicine, collective health, dentistry, veterinary medicine, ecology and physical education. Lines of incentives that were adopted from 2000 to 2009 contributed to reducing regional scientific imbalances and improving preexisting capabilities or, alternatively, encouraging spatial decentralization of these capabilities. CONCLUSIONS: Health-related scientific and technological capabilities remain highly spatially concentrated in Brazil and incentive policies have contributed to reduce to some extent these imbalances.

La conservación de la biodiversidad para la alimentación y la agricultura, es una actividad importante a nivel mundial para asegurar la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional, pero dicha actividad está siendo limitada por varios factores. Este estudio de caso analiza cómo la adopción de variedades mejoradas de papa limita la conservación de la diversidad de las variedades nativas a nivel de granja o chakra en seis comunidades indígenas en los Andes centrales ecuatorianos. Los resultados muestran que la adopción de variedades mejoradas ha desplazado una amplia gama de variedades locales tradicionales de los campos de agricultores que, junto con las condiciones socioeconómicas y ambientales que caracterizaron el sitio de estudio, han socavado la diversidad genética de variedades cultivadas de papa en las fincas. Palabras clave: Conservación en finca, diversidad de papa, variedades mejoradas, variedades nativas.

São descritos os resultados de estudo epidemiológico da evolução da cólera em Moçambique no período de 1973 a 1992, com o objetivo de analisar a influência dos fatores socioeconômicos e ecológicos, de um país em guerra, na propagação da doença. Foram utilizadas informações relativas à incidência e letalidade da cólera, relacionando-as com a taxa de crescimento médio anual da população das cidades e precipitação pluvial. Foram analidos também o abastecimento de água potável, o saneamento do meio e higiene alimentar. Encontrou-se uma taxa elevada de crescimento médio anual da população nos centros urbanos, tendo uma correlação linear direta com a incidência da cólera. A seca ocorrida em 1991-1992 também exerceu papel importante no aumento e propagação da doença. A cólera tem tido padrão endêmico-epidêmico, determinado por: a) crescimento populacional urbano descontrolado, provocado pela guerra; b) redução da qualidades das condições higiênico-sanitárias nos centros urbanos; c) comercialização de produtos alimentares sem o devido controle sanitário; d) a seca.

The aim of this study is to show Capra's thoughts influenced the ecologic nursing care dissemination. The new paradigm can be called an ecologic view in a wider and deeper perspective. Health in the holistic view of men with its relationship encompass an ecological thought in which requires nurses' competence area. Also it needs a critical thinking towards knowing, being and doing in order to compromise changes to raise emotions, enchantment and to take care of nature for the quality and existence of humanity.

São determinados alguns aspectos da dinâmica populacional de Panstrongylus megistus e Triatoma sordida. Foram utilizados os dados obtidos nas colônias espontaneamente desenvolvidas em ecótopos artificiais representados por galinheiros experimentais. Aplicou-se o método de análise de distribuições de insetos em seus vários estádios. Os resultados permitiram confirmar informações anteriores sobre a mobilidade de adultos, determinando o período anual de sua dispersão. Pelo menos para essa região sudeste do Brasil, no nordeste do Estado de São Paulo, essas épocas correspondem ao período de setembro a novembro para P. megistus e de janeiro a março para T. sordida. Foi possível medir a duração média dos estádios, bem como a sobrevivência dentro de cada um e através a passagem para todos eles. Os dados obtidos permitem sua aplicação no controle e na vigilância de infestações domiciliares por esses triatomíneos.Spontaneous colonizations of Panstrogylus magistus and Triatoma sordida in experimental fowl houses made possible the stage-frequency analysis so as to obtain some populational parameters. So adult mobility, average stage period, daily and stage survival rates were estimated. Annual period of adult dispersal was defined as Steptember-November for P. magistus and January-March for T. sórdita, at least in this region of Southeastern Brazil. It seems that T. sordida presents higher survival rates than P. megistus. Although the nymph stages periods were very variable, the total value was 298 days for P. megistus and 294 days for T. sordida. The authors presume that these data will be useful for control and surveillance of dweling infestations by these bugs.

El artículo refere-se a una investigación de los procesos que ha generado la producción florícola en el ecosistema de la Cuenca del Rio Granobles (zonas de Cayambe y de Tabacundo) y su impacto en el ecosistema y la salud humana. Para abarcar ese complejo objeto de estudio y sus múltiples dimensiones se ha requerido un enfoque interdisciplinario y además una construcción intercultural, desde los siguientes componentes: a) dinámica de los plaguicidas; b) proceso de distribución y comercialización de los plaguicidas en la cuenca; c) proceso de transformación económica y socio-antropológica generado por la floricultura; d) proceso epidemiológico de impacto en la salud humana; e) y el diseño de sistemas e instrumentos de información integrales, interculturales y participativos. La investigación consolidó una importante base de datos, geocodificada, de caracterización y conocimientos sobre impactos de la producción de flores en los(as) trabajadores(as), comunidades, sistemas hídricos y suelos, ofreciendo evidencias del severo impacto de actual sistema floricultor y exigindo reflexionar acerca de la sostenabilidad de los sistemas productivos y la garantia del futuro de los ecosistemas.The article refers to the results of an integrative research project that aim to analyze ecosystem and human health's impacts of cut flower production in Cuencas del Rio Grande region (Cayambe and Tabacundo zones). In order to assess the complex object of study and its multiple dimensions, an interdisciplinary approach has been constructed, based on the following components: a) pesticides dynamics analysis; b) pesticides distribution and commercialization processes in the region; c) economic and anthropological transformation determinate by the flower production; d) epidemiological process of human health impacts; e) and the design of participatory, multicultural and integrative information. The research consolidated an important geo-codified data base on the impacts of cut flower production to workers, communities, aquatic systems and soils, offering evidences of the actual flower production system severe impacts and leading to a reflection about the sustainability of the productive systems and the future of the ecosystems.

Estudio se realizó en una área urbana de la Capital de la Provincia de San Juan, Argentina, en un barrio de 768 apartamentos distribuidos en edificios de 3 y 7 pisos que rodean una bodega central abandonada. Se capturaron 329 ejemplares de Triatoma infestans, 293 en 4 terrazas de torres de 7 pisos y 36 en el interior de la bodega, associados con numerosas palomas que colomizaban estos sitios. Los insectos se refugiaban en el guano acumulado entre bloques de cemento que cubren las terrazas y en la bodega dentro de toneles en desuso. Se identificaron dos focos principales de vectores associados con densos palomares: un 81,5% del total de triatomas colectados se halló en una de las torres y un 11% en la bodega. A los 6 meses del tratamiento insecticida, resultaron positivas terrazas en las que previamente no se habia capturado T. infestans. El perfil alimentario de los triatomas muestra un predominio de ingestas simples sobre ave; en los edificios y en la bodega el 95% de los T. infestans analizados se alimentó sólo de ave; el resto fueron ingestas simples o dobles sobre humano, perro o gato. Ningún T. infestans presentó infección con Trypanosoma cruzi.Estudo realizado em local urbano da capital da Província de San Juan, Argentina, num bairro de 768 apartamentos distribuídos em prédios de 3 e 7 andares que cingem uma adega vinícola abandonada. Foram coletados 329 exemplares de Triatoma infestans, 293 em 4 terraços das torres de 7 andares e 36 no interior da adega, associados às numerosas pombas que colonizavam esses sítios. Os insetos refugiavam-se no excremento cumulado entre os blocos de cimento que cobrem os terraços e, na adega, dentro de tonéis fora de uso. Foram identificados dois focos principais de vetores, associados com densos pombais: 81,5% do total de triatomas coletados foram apanhados em uma das torres e 11% na adega. Após 6 meses de tratamento com inseticida, foram positivos os terraços onde anteriormente não se tinha coletado o T. infestans. O perfil alimentar dos triatomas mostra predomínio de sangue de aves; nos edifícios e na adega 95% dos T. infestans analisados alimentaram-se somente de aves; os demais fizeram repastos simples ou mistos em humanos, cães ou gatos. Nenhum T. infestans apresentou infecção com Trypanosoma cruzi.A study was undertaken in an urban area of the capital city of the province of San Juan, Argentina, in a housing complex of 768 flats distributed in buildings of 3 and 7 floors each surrouding an abandoned central winery. A total of 329 Triatoma infestans were captured, 293 on 4 terraces of seven-floor-towers and 36 inside the winery, associated with the great number of pigeons which nest in those places. The bugs were sheltered in the dung accumulated between the cement blocks used to floor the terraces and inside the unused tuns in the winery. Two main bug foci were identified associated with the dense pigeon colonies: 81,5% of the T. infestans collected were found in one of the towers (4B) and 11% in the central winery. After six months of insecticidal sprayind of the infested areas, those terraces in wich T. infestans had not been previously found resulted gave positive results. The feeding profile of triatomines shows a predominance of simple bird blood meals; in the buildings and the winery 95% of the T. infestans analized were identified for bird blood meals; the rest had fed on one or more sources: human, dogs or cats. None of the T. infestans was infected by T. cruzi.

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of river-dam axis and abiotic factors on the composition of Closteriaceae, Gonatozygaceae, Mesotaeniaceae and Peniaceae in a tropical reservoir METHODS: Water samples for physical, chemical and periphyton analysis were collected in April and August 2002 in different regions along the axis of the river-dam of Rosana Reservoir, River Basin Paranapanema. The substrates collected, always in the litoranea region, were petioles of Eichhornia azurea (Swartz) Kunth. To examine the relationship of abiotic variables with reservoir zones and between the floristic composition of desmids, we used principal component analysis (PCA) and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA RESULTS: The results of the PCA explained 81.3% of the total variability in the first two axes. In the first axis, the variables of conductivity, water temperature and the pH were related to the sampling regions of April with higher values, while for the month of August, nitrate, total phosphorus and dissolved oxygen showed higher values. We identified 20 taxa, distributed in the genera Closterium (14), Gonatozygon (4), Netrium (1) and Penium (1). Spatially, the higher taxa were recorded in the lacustrine region for both collection periods. The canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) summarized 62.2% of total data variability of taxa in the first two axes, and in August, Closterium incurvum Brébisson, C. cornu Ehrenberg ex Ralfs and Gonatozygon monotaenium De Bary, were related to higher values of turbidity and nitrate to the lacustrine and intermediate regions CONCLUSION: Thus, the formation of groups was due to the regions along the longitudinal axis, then the seasonal period, which must be related to the low current velocity, the higher values of temperature and the water transparency, especially in late summer
