S.A. Mori e Croton matourensis Aubl.. The aim of this paper was to determine the economic potential of a secondary forest with about 30 years of age that was left to regrowth after successive cycles of swidden agriculture. The study area is located in a family farm in the Bragantina Zone, PA. The inventoried area was 1.5 ha, where all the tree specimens with DBH ³ 5 cm were measured. A total of 103 species were identified, corresponding to 1961 individuals/ha and 17.7 m²/ha basal area, the species with most number of individuals being Sacoglottis amazonica Mart., Ormosia flava (Ducke) Rudd, Eschweilera coriacea (DC.) S.A. Mori and Croton matourensis Aubl.. The categories with highest number of species were rural construction (33%), followed by high value commercial timber species (30%), low value commercial and firewood (9% each).</text>

Organic agriculture in Brazil has been increasing about 30% per year over the last few years, since consumers are seeking for healthier foods, i.e. nutritious and free of pesticide residues. Among organically grown vegetable crops, tomato is an attractive economic opportunity for growers. However, the lack of information about management practices and adapted cultivars to organic production systems under protected cultivation are pointed out as important constraints that prevents this activity to expand. This work aimed at evaluating the performance of indeterminate tomato cultivars in organic management systems in unheated plastic greenhouse. In both experiments tomato plants were staked. Plant spacing was 1.5 m between rows and 0.35 m between plants. They were planted in double line and spaced 0.8 m between lines and 0.6 m between plants (about 20,000 plants ha-1). The experiment was set up in a randomized complete block design, with four replications and eight treatments (cultivars: Avalon, Colibri, HTX-5415, HTX-8027, Sahel, San Marzano, San Vito, and Jane). Sahel hybrid exhibited an outstanding performance for marketable yield under organic cultivation. Tomato pinworm (Tuta absoluta) was a serious limiting pest for organically grown tomatoes, responding for 17% of damage in the fruits harvested from the evaluated cultivars.</text>

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the homeopathic solution Ammonium Carbonicum in two dynamizations CH3 and CH30 on NO-3 leaching. The early hypothesis was that those homeopathic solutions would act upon soil microbiota optimizing the use of N by the plant. This study was conducted in greenhouse and samples of the A horizon of a very clayey typic dystroferric Red Latosol, 00.15m, situated on the UFLA campus were utilized. The soil columns were sowed with corn (Zea mays L.) and were 0.20 x 0.20 m. Irrigation and leached volume measurement was performed daily. The application of the homeopathic treatments was accomplished via irrigation. The analyses of the leachate were done twice a week. In the leachate, the contents of NO-3 and NH+4 were measured. After 93 days, the columns were sectioned in 0.05-m layers and the samples were analyzed in relation to fertility, including NO-3 , NH+4 and total N. The experimental design was completely randomized with three replicates, in a double-blind scheme with a placebo. The effect of the homeopathic solution in minimizing NO-3 leaching was not significant in the conditions of this study.</text>

The Brazilian cities have been facing problems due to the improper use of the urban space, mainly, related to the natural resources.

The babaçu is an important plant in subsistence economy in northern Brazil. The environment-social configuration of babaçu is prominent in the Amazonian regional situation, where its products are a means of income for the more impoverished Amazonian population, besides the question of the environment, which is relative to its preservation in the forest. One of the technical obstacles to babaçu production, especially with regard to extracting its oil, is manual harvesting and extractive system. The objective of this work is to propose motorized harvesting in both artificial and natural forests. It was used the project methodology morphological matrix, that numbering the possible configurations os mechanism and elements for the babaçu's harvest. The result was a theoretical concept, it has been concluded the technical viability of project, future studies they intend to develop the detail technical viability as well as the economic viability.</text>

<text>The paper considers some issue in the governance of the European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). The PDO systems are the outcomes of both farmers and consumers expectations and connect the valorisation of the agricultural and rural resources of given territories to the quality of typical products. A critical point in the governance of the PDO systems is represented by the connection between the quality strategies and the uncertainty. The paper argues that the PDO systems can be thought of as strictly coordinated subsystems in which the ex post governance play a critical role in coping with quality uncertainty. The study suggests that the society's inducements given raise to complex organizational systems in which the allocation of decision rights to PDO collective organizations play a major role. The empirical analysis is carried out by examining ten Italian PDO systems in order to identify the decision rights allocated. Todos os extratos vegetais obtiveram eficiência no controle de ninfas B. tabaci, sendo o R. communis (75,49%), M. rigida (73,99%), I. carnea (72,24%), óleo de nim (70,4%) e A. mexicana (69,16%).The squash (Cucurbita moschata Duch.) is an important crop for family farmers in the northeast of Brazil. The organic production systems have been raising on cultivated area, producers number and market. However, technical and scientific information about raw and processed material undergoing to organic production system is scarce. Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) plays an important role for organic producers around the world due to its high profits and market acceptance. The aim of this study was to prepare an organic tomato sauce made from the knowledge of familiar farmers and to assess its microbiological quality and nutritional information. The studied product presented 93.45% of moisture, 0.89% of protein, 0.13% of lipids, 1.5% of ash and 4.03% of total carbohydrates contents. The products showed a satisfactory sanitary condition according to ANVISA and calorific value lower than the commercial sauces available in the market. The processed products were adequately labeled and sold at the agro-ecological fairs in Rio de Janeiro city, adding value to organic products generating incomes to small farmers.</text>
