The objective of this work was to analyze the agricultural potential of land in two rural villages, located in Rio Negro, Paraná State, Brazil, using two methodologies denominated Land Use Capability (SCU) and Land Agricultural Aptitude (SAA). The rural villages were chosen for their distinct characteristics of soil and slope conditions. Thecontrast between the methodologies was based on the land limiting factors as well as on the social factors involved in the family settlement in small farms. The results showed that: (a) the SAA was more appropriate than SCU for determining the agricultural potential of the lands; (b) the SAA and SCU indicate that the lands of the two villages do not feature the agricultural potential for annual cultivations; (c) the SCU was more restrictive on the agricultural potential of the land than the SAA.</text>

<text>This paper deals with the spraying of pesticides through agricultural aircraft on the rural School São José do Pontal, located in the settlement Pontal do Buriti, Rio Verde-GO. It occurred on the morning of a Friday, at the beginning of month of May 2013. This severe situation reflects the structure of a hegemonic and suicidal model of agricultural production, that is prevalent in the region and is imposed on the countryside. Moreover, there is real death of voices who dare fighting against it and seek for appropriate health treatment for the affected people. They are voices of members of the settlement community, which has no space in the media and, therefore, needs to be mediated by legislators or by the Ministério Público. The media is silent as to the accountability of those who gave cause to the aerial spraying of pesticides that poisoned people and contaminated the school and community environment of the settlement. It merely reported that there were arrests and releases, on bail. However, the timid and insufficient discussion on the problems brought by agribusiness started with some representatives of the people. Thus, this study aims to identify what was reported in the media about the case, establish a mnemonic record of attempts to arrange actions to treat health of victims, between 3 May 2013 and 29 October same year, and to begin reflecting about the fact through bibliographic study.</text>

A four-year experiment irrigated rice was carried out in order to evaluate the performance of Nostoc sp. and Tolypothrix sp. nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria strains (Rizogram™), as an alternative to chemical nitrogen fertilization in irrigated rice. The treatments evaluated in the experiments included: control without top dressing Napplication; top dressing application of 20, 40 and 90 kg ha-1; 50 g ha-1 of Rizogram™, and 100 g ha-1 of Rizogram™. It was verified interaction between the years of the study and the treatments, which may have affected the performance of these treatments. Moreover, it was observed that, for the number of grains per panicle, the use of cyanobacteria in two studied rates (50 e 100 g ha-1) produced the same results as the nitrogen fertilization (90 kg ha-1), showing potential reduction of sterile spikelets. However, the treatments did not affected rice grain yield.</text>

Destacaram-se positivamente os tratamentos: 0,0 mL 0,5 kg-1 (AS) + 0,150 mL L-1 (APF); 3,0 mL 0,5 kg-1 (AS) + 0,0 mL L-1 (APF); 3,0 mL 0,5 kg-1 (AS)+ 0,225 mL L-1 (APF) e 5,0 mL 0,5 kg-1 (AS) + 0,075 mL L-1 (APF).Aiming to verify the effect of the bioestimulant, Stimulate®, applied saw by seed and leaf pulverization, in the culture of the soybean. It behaved an experiment under greenhouse, in vases. Randomized block experimental design was used, with four repetitions. The treatments consisted of the combination of bioestimulant doses: seed application (SA) (0; 3; and 5 mL kg-1 of seeds) in the sowing and leaf spray (LS) (0.0; 0.075; 0.150; and 0.225 mL L- 1), to the 58 days after the emergency (DAE). Collections of plants were accomplished to the 73 and 129 DAE. For some of the studied variables, in the used doses, there was negative effect in the response of the biostimulant application, for some tested doses. Positives responses were verified for flowers and roots dry mass; root/shoot relation; flowers; beans and grains number; and yield for plant. They stood out the treatments: 0,0 mL 0.5 kg-1 (SA) + 0.150 mL L-1 (LS); 3.0 mL 0.5 kg-1 (SA) + 0.0 mL L-1 (LS); 3.0 mL 0.5 kg-1 (SA) + 0.225 mL L-1 (LS); and 5.0 mL 0.5 kg-1 (SA) + 0.075 mL L-1 (LS).</text>

The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of an aquatic macrophyte (Eichornia crassipes) as a bioindicator and as an alternative sorbent for the removal of toxic heavy metals Cd, Pb and Cr from swine biofertilizer. A 2x4 factorial design was used, with the factors represented by plant parts (leaves and roots) and the fourtreatments. The metal concentrations were determined at the beginning of the experiment and after 30 days. The macrophyte showed good efficiency in the removal of toxic heavy metals from swine biofertilizer. It was observed that its radicular system presented larger amounts of Cd, Pb and Cr than did the leaves. Our results show that Eichornia crassipes could be an alternative treatment for biofertilizer and waste from swine culture.</text>
