En la actualidad, Chile cuenta con la mayor cobertura de saneamiento de aguas residuales (99.85%) en Latinoamérica, mediante la utilización de tecnologías convencionales, sobre todo lodos activos y lagunas aireadas, y no convencionales como biofiltro, vermi-biofiltro, entre otros. Si bien todas las tecnologías permiten cumplir con las normas de descarga, existen diferencias en los flujos de materia y energía asociados con el tipo de tecnología utilizada, lo que implica la generación de distintos impactos ambientales. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la eco-eficiencia de diferentes tecnologías de tratamiento de aguas residuales domésticas utilizadas en Chile, con base en los requisitos de la norma ISO 14045 (2012). Para ello se utilizó como unidad funcional 1 kg de DBO5 removida y una función de valor asociada con el volumen de agua tratada (m3). Se analizaron 15 plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales en Chile, utilizando la metodología de análisis de ciclo de vida para cuantificar los impactos ambientales. Se determinó que el consumo eléctrico es el principal aspecto ambiental del tratamiento de aguas residuales domésticas para la mayoría de las categorías de impacto estudiadas. En términos de cambio climático y eutrofización de agua dulce, la tecnología más eco-eficiente fue el vermi-biofiltro, lo cual refleja que las tecnologías emergentes no convencionales son más eco-eficientes que las convencionales. La temperatura media anual varía entre 13,4 y 15,1ºC. Las precipitaciones descienden en sentido NE-SW y se distribuyen a lo largo del año con máximos en verano y mínimos en invierno. Predominan los vientos del N y NW durante todas las estaciones del año. La temperatura media en Necochea Quequén mostró un incremento significativo de 1,1ºC. La amplitud térmica disminuyó 2,6ºC debido en parte al aumento en la temperatura mínima media. En cuanto a las precipitaciones no se ha verificado una tendencia. Design/methodology/approach - A participatory process involving the community and institutional stakeholders was carried out to select and prioritise adaptation measures to reduce the erosion of sandy beaches, dunes and bluffs due to extreme wind storm surge and rainfall, SLR and mismanagement practices. The recovery of coastal ecosystems was implemented through soft measures (green infrastructure) such as revegetation with native species, dune regeneration, sustainable drainage systems and the reduction of use pressures. Findings - Main achievements of this case study include capacity building of municipal staff and stakeholders, knowledge exchanges with national-level decision makers and scientists and the incorporation of EbA approaches by subnational-level coastal governments. To consolidate EbA, the local government introduced innovations in the coastal management institutional structure. Originality/value - The outcomes of the article include, besides the increase in the resilience of social-ecological systems, the strengthening of socio-institutional behaviour, structure and sustainability. This experience provides insights for developing a strategy for both Integrated Coastal Management and climate adaptation at the national scale. So, the use of renewable energy is necessary as well as sustainable refurbshiments. Many issues have a direct impact on the sustainability of a refurbishment, (environmental, social, economic, energetic, etc). This study proposes a model to weight or measure economic, environmental and energetic costs in refurbishing a façade of building, with verifiable and comparable results as a first approach to get the best model to a global evaluation in building sector. To get this model, the author study eight different refurbishment proposals for a choosen façade of building setting two different types of actions. This model is based on life cycle analysis and shows cuantitative and comparables results expressed in graphics to get a better understanding. Resumen El cambio climático es ya una realidad y la sostenibilidad se ha convertido en una prioridad a nivel mundial. Dicha sostenibilidad, aplicada al sector de la construcción, significa no solo lo relativo a la nueva construcción sino también en lo referente a la reforma de la edificación existente. La reducción en la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero pasa necesariamente por la mejora de las características ambientales y energéticas de los edificios existentes. En este sentido se hace necesario el uso de energías renovables así como una mejora de la edificación existente para que sea sostenible. Son muchos los aspectos que tienen un impacto directo en la sostenibilidad a la hora de acometer una actuación de rehabilitación, ambientales, sociales y económicos. Este trabajo propone un modelo que mida los costes económicos y medioambientales a la hora de reformar la fachada de un edificio, aportando unos resultados comparables y verificables, como una primera aproximación para conseguir el mejor modelo de evaluación global del edificio. Para conseguir este modelo de análisis, el trabajo se apoyo en el estudio de 8 propuestas de mejora de fachada de un edificio estableciendo dos tipos de acciones. Este modelo se basa en el Análisis del Ciclo de Vida (ACV) y muestra resultados cuantitativos y comparables expresados en gráficos para una mejor comprensión.
