La producción de energía a partir de bioetanol de sorgo, es una manera de ayudar a aminorar el cambio climático y el deterioro del ambiente. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar las características agronómicas asociadas a la producción de bioetanol en genotipos experimentales de sorgo dulce. Durante los años 2013 y 2014 se evaluaron diecisiete genotipos dulces en dos localidades del noreste de México, bajo un diseño de bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones: tres experimentos en la Estación Cuauhtémoc, Tamaulipas, en temporal; y dos en Marín, Nuevo León, en riego. El híbrido experimental Potranca x Keller obtuvo los valores más altos (p≤0,05) (kg/ha) en: peso de biomasa (52 125), de tallo (39 650), de espiga (4550), de hoja (7700), de jugo (14 125) y de bioetanol (2157 l/ha); y superó al testigo más productivo (Keller) en: 35,7, 32,5, 63,2, 41,6, 36,8 y 32,5%, respectivamente. Además, fue 6,8 días más precoz en cuanto a la floración que el testigo. La variedad experimental 17-1-1-1 se identificó con menor incidencia a enfermedades foliares que Keller. Además, presentaron características agronómicas similares al testigo en: peso de biomasa (44 375 kg/ha), de tallo (35 438 kg/ha), de espiga (2488 kg/ha), de hoja (6400 kg/ha), de jugo (11 750 kg/ha), peso seco de planta (19 113 kg/ha), peso seco de tallo (14 888 kg/ha), producción de bioetanol (1929 l/ha), °Brix (15,2), días a floración (80,8) y altura de planta (224 cm).

La dependencia por los combustibles fósiles insta a buscar alternativas de producción más limpias que contribuyan a mitigar los efectos del cambio climático. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar el potencial del uso de la energía solar para el calentamiento de agua y generación de energía eléctrica. El estudio se desarrolló en la lechería de la Sede Regional San Carlos, Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica, entre mayo de 2015 y abril de 2016. Se determinó la cantidad de electricidad producida y las temperaturas alcanzadas, por medio de los sistemas fotovoltaicos y térmicos instalados mediante un registro computarizado. También se calculó la cantidad de dióxido de carbono equivalente que se dejó de emitir a la atmósfera y, el ahorro energético y económico de su consumo. El uso de los sistemas de energía solar permitió lograr un autoabastecimiento de energía eléctrica entre 30 y 40% del consumo total de la unidad productiva. En la producción de energía para calentar el agua para la limpieza y sanitización de los equipos de ordeño, el sistema térmico fue capaz de lograr un incremento entre 20 y 37 ºC, lo que representó más del 70% de la energía necesaria para alcanzar la temperatura requerida (70 ºC) y un ahorro económico de aproximadamente $90 mensuales. Estos sistemas contribuyeron a disminuir la dependencia de los combustibles fósiles, al mejorar la eficiencia económica y productiva en unidades de producción agropecuaria en la Región Huetar Norte de Costa Rica.

Contexto: Para satisfacer la demanda de energía mundial, la energía solar fotovoltaica ha emergido como una energía renovable, sostenible y amigable con el medio ambiente, usada como alternativa para mitigar el cambio climático causado por uso de energías provenientes de los combustibles fósiles; pensando en ello, es muy importante estudiar el comportamiento de los módulos fotovoltaicos en condiciones reales de funcionamiento. Método: Se implementan dos sistemas fotovoltaicos autónomos similares, uno con módulo policristalino y otro monocristalino, cada uno con sistema de adquisición de datos de temperatura, humedad, voltaje y corriente, los cuales son adquiridos de forma sincronizada por un periodo de tres meses bajo condiciones climáticas locales de Fusagasugá. Resultados: Los datos de temperatura, humedad, irradiancia, voltaje y corriente se utilizan para obtener curvas que muestran el rendimiento energético de los módulos policristalinos y monocristalinos. Conclusiones: Los resultados de este estudio pueden ayudar a predecir el comportamiento de salida de un sistema fotovoltaico, principalmente cuando las condiciones clim´aticas como humedad, temperatura y radiación cambian. Se evidencia un mejor desempeño del módulo monocristalino que el policristalino.

A través de dos comunidades beduinas (del Sahara Occidental y del Naqab en Pa - lestina) perseguidas por los Estados coloniales de Marruecos e Israel, trata de auscultar lo inquietante del nomadismo como fuera advertido en el siglo XIV por Ibn Jaldún. En el caso del Naqab, recurre al análisis de tres fotos de Fazal Sheikh que documentan la relación entre colonización y cambio climático. Desde la perspectiva de la ética heterónoma, el nomadismo deja entrever la promesa de otras formas de habitar, ajenas a la posesión y a la acumulación.

We have studied Juniperus oxycedrus L. subsp. badia (H.Gay) Debeaux in the central and southern Iberian Peninsula, where the macrobioclimate ranges from Mediterranean-pluviseasonal-oceanic to Mediterranean-pluviseasonal-continental, and the thermotype from the thermo- to the supramediterranean. The relevés were taken following the Braun-Blanquet phytosociological methodology. A statistical treatment was applied to establish a separation among Juniperus communities. To understand the presence of Juniperus communities in territories dominated by species in the Quercus genus, we applied Thornthwaite’s formula to calculate potential evapotranspiration. The general cluster analysis clearly distinguishes two groups of plant communities and separates the different associations in each group. All the plant communities growing on rocky crests and in extremely steep sloping areas are significantly influenced by the soil. The ombroclimatic index does not explain the presence of plant communities influenced by substrate, so we proposed a new ombroedaphoxeric index which explains the presence of Juniperus communities in territories with a thermotype between the thermo- and supramediterranean. The areas of distribution of Juniperus species are expanding due to the spread of rocky areas; this phenomenon causes an increase in edaphoxerophilous areas and a decrease in climatophilous ones. We propose four new plant associations, with updated structures and floristic compositions. Efficient conservation is possible in both the territories studied (Spain and Portugal) through the implementation of specific cross-border cooperation projects.

El desarrollo de los territorios y sujetos rurales necesita de nuevas formas de abordar la compresión de sus problemáticas. La universidad y la Unión de campesinos organizados de San Dionisio (UCOSD) llevan desde el 2013 un proceso de diálogo transdisciplinario para generar estrategias de desarrollo económico, humano y de adaptación al cambio climático desde las familias de trece comunidades rurales. A partir de la matriz de necesidades y satisfactores se lograron detectar las principales carencias y potencialidades desde cada comunidad para así identificar los satisfactores sinérgicos y las patologías principales. La destrucción del tejido comunitario, por la desconfianza y la falta de coherencia personal del liderazgo. Esta información se analizó a la luz del plan estratégico de la organización y se obtuvieron unos aprendizajes y líneas de acción: La necesidad de afrontar los conflictos que cada persona arrastra para poder fortalecer la organización, el papel que la asociatividad juega en esa sanación personal, la necesidad de diálogo entre la memoria organizativa con las expectativas del relevo generacional. Este diálogo continúa y aspira a clarificar el futuro de la ruralidad en el territorio de San Dionisio y Matagalpa. Los aportes de la agricultura para el país son indiscutibles: cerca del 20% al Producto Interno Bruto, 40% del empleo nacional, alimentos; aunque la mayoría de cultivos se producen en sistemas convencionales algunos como el café y el cacao son generadores de servicios ecosistemicos como la captura de carbono y la infiltración de agua. Así mismo, la agricultura es generadora de cohesión social comunitaria y un extraordinario reservorio de cultura popular. Tres elementos de contexto ponen en riesgo este carácter multifuncional de la agricultura. Primero, el cambio climático, quizá sea el de mayor riesgo para el presente y futuro. Segundo, los bajos niveles de productividad, que se combinan con un proceso de degradación de los recursos suelo y agua. Tercero, el fin de la frontera agrícola, patrón del crecimiento de la agricultura en los últimos 60 años. Aunado a estos elementos la demanda por alimentos aumentará por el crecimiento natural de la población. Requerimos innovar en las tres dimensiones del concepto: organizacional, de producto y proceso. La propuesta que se plantea en este ensayo consta de ocho criterios con sus indicadores para medir innovación agropecuaria territorial, sustentados por un marco teórico y contextual ajustado a las condiciones de los territorios nicaragüenses. El instrumento podrá ser normalizado y utilizado por el Sistema Nicaragüense de Investigación e Innovación Agropecuaria. Palabras clave: innovación territorial agropecuaria, sistema de innovación.

El objetivo de este estudio es explorar la disponibilidad del agua subterránea del acuífero número 1908, Campo Mina, estado de Nuevo –León, México para la planificación agroindustrial de la subcuenca río Bravo-San Juan, utilizando datos derivados de sensores remotos y sistemas de información geográfica para la planificación agroindustrial de la subcuenca río Bravo-San Juan bajo contexto de cambio climático. Los datos de teledetección y sistemas de información geográfica se utilizaron para delimitar las zonas potenciales de agua subterránea en la sub-cuenca del río Bravo. Los mapas: topográfico, geológico, hidrogeomorfológico, estructural, de disección del relieve, de pendientes y de agua subterránea, se procesaron utilizando datos de teledetección junto con otros mapas existentes. La disponibilidad de agua subterránea del acuífero se clasificó cualitativamente en diferentes clases (de muy buena a nula) en función de sus condiciones hidro-geomorfológicas. El mapa de disponibilidad del agua subterránea del campo Mina, se elaboró considerando los máximos y mínimos de precipitación así como la clasificación climática de Köppen pero modificada por García (2004) y ajustada para las condiciones del noreste de México. Las cuñas sedimentarias del aluvión cuaternario (acuífero libre), los piedemonte de caliza con lutita así como las colinas de caliza fueron delineadas con éxito para mostrar la potencialidad de agua subterránea de cada formación.

Partiendo de varios diagnósticos producidos recientemente sobre los riesgos del sistema mundial, se hace una propia lista de los que parecen ser los diez más importantes, a saber, la cuestión del petróleo, el auge de la China, el desplome de los Estados Unidos, la desconexión de América Latina, la crisis de Naciones Unidas, los nuevos terrorismos, la amenaza nuclear, pandemias, cambio climático y polarización social. Como existe una conexión y retroalimentación entre muchos de ellos, se concluye indicando la posibilidad deque estemos entrando en una etapa particularmente caótica en el sistema mundial.Starting from some recent diagnosis about the risks of the world system, a new list is made with the possible more important ones, namely, tipping point in oil, rise of China, breakdown of the United States, new terrorisms, nuclear threat, pandemics, climatic change and social polarization. As far as a connexion and feedback between these elements can be found, the conclusion points to the possibility of a new era especially chaotic in the world system.

En Centroamérica, el maíz y el frijol son usualmente cultivados por agricultores que tienen pequeñas áreas de tierra y viven en situación de vulnerabilidad. El cambio climático representa una importante amenaza para estos pequeños agricultores de granos básicos, poniendo en peligro sus sistemas de producción y medios de vida. El uso de Adaptación basada en Ecosistemas (AbE) puede ayudarlos a enfrentar el cambio climático, pero existe poca información sobre el tema. El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar las estrategias de AbE que los pequeños agricultores de granos básicos de cuatro paisajes de Guatemala y Honduras utilizan para aumentar su resiliencia frente al cambio climático. A través de entrevistas y mediciones en campo en 160 fincas, entre julio 2014 y junio 2015, 1) se exploró qué tan común es el uso de las diferentes prácticas de AbE, 2) se documentaron las características biofísicas de estas prácticas, y 3) se determinó si la implementación y características de las prácticas difieren entre paisajes. Los resultados indican que muchos de los pequeños agricultores de granos básicos usan prácticas de AbE, aun cuando cultivan áreas pequeñas (parcelas de maíz de ~0,68 ha), tienen un bajo nivel de educación y bajo acceso a capacitaciones o consejos técnicos. Las prácticas más comunes fueron el uso de árboles dispersos, huertos caseros y cercas vivas. Resultados de un análisis de ANDEVA indican que hubo diferencias significativas en el uso de diferentes prácticas entre agricultores, que sugiere que las adoptan en respuesta a sus medios de vida y condiciones biofísicas. El estudio sugiere que los pequeños agricultores de granos básicos tienen la experiencia y el conocimiento para utilizar prácticas de AbE, y que ven beneficios derivados de su implementación; sin embargo, para ampliar el uso de estas prácticas, se necesita más apoyo técnico, financiero y político.
