The most diverse groups documented were crustaceans, cnidarians and mollusks in order of species number. The first published record of any marine organism from the area, a polychaete, occurred in 1922, with a peak of published records of species between 1940 and 1949 and, more recently, from 2000 to the present. Several additional taxa are known from the region but there are no published records of their occurrence. This is especially evident for such groups as the free living flatworms and black corals. Additionally, several habitats, including soft bottom sediments, have not been sampled. Because of the paucity of knowledge on the biodiversity of Bahia Culebra, much more research is needed in order to evaluate and understand the effect of climate change and increasing anthropogenic activities.Bahía Culebra es una bahía semicerrada en el Pacífico norte de Costa Rica. Se recopilaron y analizaron publicaciones en que se mencionan especies marinas de la Bahía. Un total de 577 especies en 22 filos han sido registradas, la mayoría crustaceos, cnidarios y moluscos. El primer informe de una especie marina de Bahía Culebra fue en 1922, un poliqueto. Entre 1940 y 1949 hay un pico de publicaciones con especies de la Bahía, al igual que del 2000 al presente. Se han observado algunos grupos de animales de los cuales no hay publicaciones, por ejemplo corales negros y gusanos planos de vida libre. Igualmente, tampoco hay publicaciones sobre los organismos del bentos blando. Más investigación en Bahía Culebra como también continuar y ampliar el monitoreo de ecosistemas y organismos marinos, es necesario para poder evaluar los impactos por la actividad humana y los naturales, incluyendo el cambio climático. The main perturbation of this system is associated to “El Niño” (EN), which affects water mass distribution and reduces primary production. Previous studies in the PUS provided first insights into the dynamics of dissolved organic matter (DOM), but high-resolution studies involving the molecular characterization of the DOM pool to reveal the processes that affect the carbon cycle in this highly productive system are lacking. We characterized the molecular composition of solid-phase extractable DOM (SPE-DOM) in the coastal upwelling system off Central Peru and linked it to specific processes that affect DOM cycling. Seasonal sampling (April, August, and December) was carried out off Central Peru (12°S) during 2015, a low productivity year marked by EN conditions. The DOM molecular composition was obtained via Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS). Solid-phase extractable dissolved organic carbon (SPE-DOC) concentrations showed significant differences (p &lt; 0.05) between the water masses present off central Peru. In order to explore if changes in SPE-DOC concentrations were the result of water mass mixing, we applied a conservative mixing (CM) model. The model revealed a non-conservative behavior of SPE-DOC and allowed us to identify two distinct groups of samples with increased and decreased SPE-DOC concentrations, respectively, and one group of samples inside the CM range. Differences in environmental parameters characterizing these groups were in accordance with respective processes associated to production and degradation of SPE-DOC. The trends observed for molecular parameters revealed the imprint of processes related to DOM production and DOM degradation, both biotic (microbial degradation) and abiotic (photodegradation). Our study suggests that even under low productivity conditions like EN, there is an active cycling of the DOM pool off central Peru. La mayoría de los estudios de vulnerabilidad al cambio climático la definen como una expresión de tres dimensiones: la exposición de los sistemas a los fenómenos climáticos, la sensibilidad a esas condiciones riesgosas, y su capacidad para afrontar los impactos que los afectan. Estas tres dimensiones facilitan la operacionalización del concepto a partir de indicadores biofísicos y sociales cuya principal finalidad es cuantificar el fenómeno y establecer relaciones de causalidad entre eventos y recursos. Frente a esta conceptualización, otra manera de entender el fenónemo es definirla como un proceso dinámico determinado procesos sociales, económicos, políticos, culturales e institucionales. Desde este enfoque el cambio climático impacta sobre una serie de vulnerabilidades previas y de largo plazo definidas principalmente por el acceso a los recursos. La vulnerabilidad se define entonces, como un proceso cuya complejidad no admite cuantificaciones ni generalizaciones entre causas y efectos como las que proponen los sistemas de indicadores. A partir de una experiencia de investigación concreta en las cuencas de los ríos Mendoza, en Argentina, y Chinchiná, en Colombia este artículo demuestra las limitaciones que el uso de indicadores de vulnerabilidad social conllevan para la investigación social aplicada. Con base en el análisis de datos estadísticos de uso público disponible en Argentina y en Colombia y de entrevistas en profundidad en las areas de estudio, los autores reconstruyen las dificultades enfrentadas al momento de construir dichos indicadores para demostrar las debilidades de cada indicador para dar cuenta del complejo fenómeno de la vulnerabilidad. Se analizan en particular los indicadores de nivel de ingresos, tenencia de la tierra, acceso al agua, infraestructura tecnológica, asistencia técnica, asociativismo y nivel educativo. Esta pro hibición generó la investigación de compuestos alternativos sintéticos o naturales con capacidad antimicrobia na que no generen resistencia en los microorganismos pero que ejerzan efectos similares a los antibióticos. Se han evaluado nitrocomponentes, taninos, saponinas, y recientemente otros componentes secundarios de las plantas como los aceites esenciales (AE). Existe una gran cantidad de AE sin embargo; sólo han sido evaluados en promedio 70 de estos, y sus componentes activos, a los que se les atribuye la modificación de la fermentación ruminal o mitigante de metano. La mayoría de los trabajos que mencionan efectos en la fermentación ruminal y mitigación del metano se han realizado in vitro , en algunos casos con resultados importantes, y recientemente se han comenzado a generar datos de investigaciones in vivo con la inclusión de la evaluación de parámetros productivos y de salud animal. E l presente tiene como objetivos principales mostrar y discutir los resultados y avances de las investigaciones referentes a AE in vitro e in vivo, en referencia a la inclusión de estos y las respuestas sobre los principales parámetros de fermentación ruminal, mitigación de la producción de metano en el rumen, así como también el rumbo que debieran seguir futuras invest igaciones. Este trabajo discute un esquema de modelación paramétrica (indirecta) de la curva de crecimiento de la biomasa en píxeles individuales de sensores Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer o AVHRR y Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer o MODIS, permitiendo así su caracterización usando algoritmos de pre y post-proceso. Los resultados obtenidos de la aplicación de los algoritmos discutidos en este trabajo, permiten la obtención de curvas anuales del crecimiento a la escala de 100 ha (AVHRR) y 6.25 ha (MODIS), que pueden ser usadas en estudios de cambio climático y del manejo de agostaderos en México. En Chile, los climas urbanos forman parte de diversos mosaicos de paisajes que a su vez, representan profundas desigualdades sociales. Las comunas de Santiago registran zonas climáticas termales, que son producto de sus variados usos y coberturas de suelos, densidades y diseños de las viviendas y coberturas vegetales. Los climas urbanos son, por lo tanto, representaciones de procesos integrados entre la naturaleza y la sociedad. Las áreas más cálidas se observan en áreas de construcciones de edificios sociales de alta densidad y carentes de vegetación, ubicados en municipios donde predominan los sectores de menores ingresos, mientras que las más frías lo hacen en barrios donde residen los grupos de mayores ingresos, caracterizados por el predominio de áreas verdes y bajas densidades residenciales.
