Esse artigo enfoca a viabilidade de investimento na produção de café arábica, no Estado do Espírito Santo, comparando os sistemas convencional e orgânico, para identificar o que proporciona maior sustentabilidade socioeconômica aos produtores familiares. Os métodos de avaliação econômica utilizados foram o valor presente líquido, a taxa interna de retorno e o tempo de retorno do capital investido. Também foi feita a análise de sensibilidade. Demonstrou-se que ambos os sistemas de produção foram viáveis, mas, observou-se a grande dependência de recebimento do prêmio para viabilizar o cultivo orgânico, compensando a sua menor produtividade. Além disso, o preço recebido foi a variável que exerceu a maior influência na rentabilidade dos cafeicultores familiares. Concluiu-se que, assegurada a eficiência econômica e ecológica do sistema orgânico, o desafio é aperfeiçoar a sua eficiência técnica, para que possa contribuir com a sustentabilidade socioeconômica dos cafeicultores familiares.

A ausência de restrições climáticas para a produção biológica é a principal característica do bioma Amazônia, o que não se traduz em elevadas produtividades por sucessivos anos de cultivos quando a floresta é substituída por agroecossistemas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito do manejo do solo nos atributos químicos e físicos do solo pela agricultura familiar, conduzida de forma primitiva. As maneiras de uso avaliadas foram: sistema agroflorestal, pastagem cultivada, roça de toco e mata preservada (usada como referência), todas em Neossolo Quartzarênico. Monólitos de terra foram coletados nas camadas de 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 e 20-40 cm em dois anos agrícolas consecutivos (2010/2011 e 2011/2012) nos meses de julho e janeiro coletando-se sete repetições por sistema. Os atributos do solo avaliados foram: grau de floculação, agregados maior que 2 mm, matéria orgânica, acidez, bases trocáveis, teores de fósforo, saturação por bases, alumínio e capacidade de troca de cátions. Os resultados apontam que 22 anos após a conversão da floresta em agroecossistemas ainda é possível verificar melhores indicadores nos sistemas manejados.

As políticas recentes de compras governamentais que emergiram a partir dos anos 2000, tais como Programa Nacional da Alimentação Escolar (PNAE) e o Programa de Aquisição de Alimentos (PAA), trouxeram oportunidades significativas de acesso a mercados para cooperativas de agricultura familiar no Brasil. Apesar das possibilidades que o PNAE e o PAA oferecem para a agricultura familiar e suas organizações, os programas também apresentam uma série de desafios, na medida em que envolvem diferentes agentes no processo de aquisição de alimentos. Este artigo pretende traçar o perfil das cooperativas de agricultura familiar em Minas Gerais e analisar as principais dificuldades para acessar o mercado institucional. Para tanto, foram analisados os diagnósticos realizados em 19 cooperativas de agricultura familiar em diferentes regiões de Minas Gerais em 2011. Apesar do acesso aos mercados locais em âmbito municipais e regionais, identificou-se que existem questões relacionadas à assistência técnica, adequação sanitária, gestão e logística que impedem as cooperativas de acessar essas políticas nos grandes centros de Minas Gerais.

As transformações ocorridas na sociedade atual refletem diretamente em escolhas alimentares não saudáveis. Como consequência desse padrão alimentar, surgem o sobrepeso e a obesidade, e também doenças crônicas não transmissíveis. O Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (o PNAE) configura uma importante estratégia do Governo Federal para o enfrentamento desse problema alimentar. Desde suas primeiras resoluções, busca-se cada vez mais cardápios saudáveis, regionalizados e adaptados à cultura local. A mais recente normativa do programa obriga estados e municípios a comprarem parte de seus alimentos de agricultores familiares rurais. Este estudo analisa reflexões dos agricultores familiares em relação à dinâmica de abastecimento dos produtos da agricultura familiar para a alimentação escolar. Trata-se de um estudo de caso, realizado segundo a técnica qualitativa por meio de entrevista semiestruturada no município de Araripe, Ceará. Foram entrevistados catorze agricultores familiares que fornecem gêneros alimentícios para escolas e identificadas duas categorias principais nos depoimentos: dificuldades e benefícios. Pode-se perceber que questões relacionadas ao pagamento, ao transporte e a estrutura física destacaram-se como os principais entraves para que essa prática fosse efetivada. Quanto aos benefícios, o mais recorrente foi a oportunidade de emprego que esse mercado trouxe. Os resultados indicam a necessidade de ações por parte da gestão local para reconhecer o potencial agrícola dessa região, além de estabelecer parcerias com outros órgãos, com vistas a melhorar a capacitação desses agricultores e subsidiá-los no atendimento às especificações legais do programa. Isso pode contribuir para o aumento da renda e da qualidade de vida entre as famílias rurais.

Nas possibilidades de diálogo, é levantada a importância de correntes ligadas à sociologia da compreensão.The purpose of this article is to explain the concept of Nature that founds the ideas and actions of the Peasant Women's Movement, and to reflect on the possibilities of dialogue between militants and intellectuals. For this it must take into account that, while academic feminism is strongly influenced by the deconstructionist lines of thought, farming women sustain the idea, based on a deeply religious vision, of a natural identification between women and Nature. In pointing out possibilities for dialogue, the paper underlines the importance of lines of thought connected with the sociology of comprehension.

O manejo em pomares orgânicos de citros é diferenciado em relação aos pomares convencionais. Deste modo, objetivou-se avaliar alguns atributos físicos e químicos de um Argissolo espessarênico e produtividade do pomar de tangerineiras, cv. montenegrina, sob sistema orgânico de produção, com diferentes manejos da vegetação nas entrelinhas. Os tratamentos estudados foram: gradagem, roçada, acamamento com rolo-faca e com arraste de tronco. A avaliação dos atributos físicos ocorreu sob a projeção da copa e na área de tráfego de máquinas, nas camadas de 0,0-0,1 e 0,1-0,2 m. A fertilidade química do solo foi determinada nas profundidades de 0,0-0,1; 0,1-0,2 e 0,2-0,4 m, enquanto a produtividade de frutos foi estimada a partir das plantas centrais de cada parcela. O tráfego de máquinas influenciou negativamente nos atributos físicos do solo abaixo da interface pneu/solo, embora não tenha sido restritivo à produtividade de frutos. Em todos os tratamentos, houve incremento de matéria orgânica na camada superficial do solo e dos teores de P, K+, Ca2+ e Mg2+ nas três camadas de solo em relação à área adjacente com vegetação nativa. O manejo com gradagem apresentou produtividade significativamente maior em relação ao manejo com roçada.

O Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento da Agricultura Familiar (Pronaf) incluiu agricultores familiares no quadro das políticas públicas, ao seguir as tendências das políticas da década de 1990 de democratizar acesso a recursos financeiros. A sustentabilidade foi inserida no programa. Neste estudo, o propósito geral foi analisar os objetivos do Pronaf, no contexto do desenvolvimento econômico. Considerou-se que o Pronaf não permitiria avaliar a relação entre atividades desenvolvidas e resultados obtidos pelo programa. Assim, seria inconsistente. Além de analisar documentos oficiais, outros objetivos específicos foram analisar a consistência do Pronaf e, em caso de inconsistência, propor uma matriz de estrutura lógica. Nenhum projeto foi encontrado, apenas a legislação. A análise desta não permitiu o preenchimento da matriz e isso indica inconsistência. Propôs-se uma matriz completa.

A análise da variação de preços agrícolas é imprescindível na formulação de políticas públicas e decisões empresariais. Considerando-se a importância estratégica dos biocombustíveis para a economia brasileira e os objetivos sociais do programa do biodiesel para a agricultura familiar, o presente estudo tem o objetivo de quantificar a volatilidade e a reação dos preços da oleaginosa dendê, frente a choques sob modelos ARCH e GARCH. Os resultados obtidos para o preço do dendê mostram que choques de volatilidade perduram por períodos prolongados de tempo, aumentando o risco para produtores rurais.

RESUMOA utilização de produtos biofertilizantes, como fermentados bacterianos, contendo aminoácidos, é pouco estudada na produção de mudas de hortaliças, especialmente no sistema orgânico. Neste trabalho, o objetivo foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação foliar de um fermentado bacteriano do melaço da cana, contendo 30% do aminoácido ácido L-glutâmico, no desenvolvimento de mudas de repolho. Os tratamentos, constituídos por quatro repetições, eram compostos por concentrações do fermentado (0; 0,1; 0,2; 0,4 e 0,8 mL L-1)aplicadas nas folhas, em intervalos de sete ou de 14 dias. Aos 35 dias após a semeadura, foram determinados o índice relativo de clorofila, a área foliar e o volume do sistema radicular. O fermentado bacteriano promoveu incrementos do índice relativo de clorofila, da área foliar e do volume radicular, quando aplicado com intervalos de 14 dias, e incremento do volume radicular, quando aplicado com intervalos de sete dias. Ocorreu redução da área foliar, quando aplicado em concentrações superiores a 0,2 ml L-1, com intervalos de sete dias. O biofertilizante incrementa o desenvolvimento de mudas de repolho.

A calêndula representa fonte alternativa econômica principalmente para a agricultura familiar. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da adubação orgânica e do uso da cobertura morta sobre a produção de biomassa e teor de flavonóides totais em plantas de calêndula. O experimento foi realizado no Campus de Montes Claros da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, utilizando-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 2x2x4 com quatro repetições: duas épocas de colheita, presença ou ausência de cobertura morta e quatro doses de composto orgânico (0, 30, 60 e 90 t ha-1). As maiores produções de biomassa e flavonóides totais foram verificadas com o aumento das doses de composto orgânico. Para os flavonóides totais o maior teor foi obtido na segunda colheita na presença de cobertura morta.Calendula represents an alternative economic source, mainly to familiar agriculture. The aim of this work was to study the effects of organic fertilization and mulching on phytomass production and total flavonoid content in calendula plants. The experiment was carried out at Federal University of Minas Gerais, Montes Claros Campus. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, in 2x2x4 factorial arrangement, with four replicates: two harvest periods, presence or absence of mulching, and four levels of organic fertilizer (0, 30, 60 and 90 t ha-1). The highest phytomass and total flavonoid productions were obtained with increasing levels of organic fertilizer. The highest total flavonoid content was obtained in the second harvest in the presence of mulching.
