El cambio climático a escala global y regional ha influido en la frecuencia e intensidad de fenómenos climáticos extremos como las sequías, incrementado las zonas áridas en el planeta, como consecuencia, los eventos de estrés por sequía han aumentado en las plantas. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo mostrar la habilidad y estrategia de las plantas para responder y adaptarse al estrés por sequía mediante la enzima Superóxido Dismutasa (SOD). Se encontró que las respuestas bioquímicas se constituyen en uno de los principales mecanismos de defensa contra este tipo de estrés, uno de estos mecanismos es la sobreproducciónde especies reactivas de oxígeno (ROS) el cual es controlado por sistemas antioxidantes. Dentro de estos sistemas antioxidantes se encuentra la enzima antioxidante Superóxido Dismutasa (SOD). Se concluye que las defensas antioxidantes isoformas de la enzima Superóxido Dismutasa (Mn-SOD, Cu/Zn-SOD, Fe-SOD), se hallan en diferentes especies vegetales y funcionan como eficientes detoxificadores de ROS. Por esto pueden ser una herramienta valiosa en los programas de mejoramiento genético de plantas buscando aumentar la tolerancia de éstas al déficit hídrico.

Hoy en día la comunidad científica y la sociedad está preocupados con los cambios climáticos que están aconteciendo desde años. La realidad es que cambios climáticos existieron a lo largo de la historia de nuestro planeta. La diferencia que se plantea con los cambios más recientes, es que el humano es en gran parte responsable. Más allá de esto, los cambios climáticos suelen producir cambios en la forma en que nosotros hacemos las cosas. Es decir, en el cómo enfrentar ciertos cambios naturales, como ser una sequía. En este trabajo se presenta un caso arqueológico, sobre las posibles estrategias que pudieron ser generadas por los cazadores recolectores que ocuparon el sur de Mendoza hace alrededor de 5.000 años, para lidiar con un proceso de aridización ocurrido durante el Holoceno medio (8.000 – 4.000 años atrás). Se propone que los grupos humanos pudieron haber cambiado su forma de organizar su tecnología lítica para enfrentar el impacto del proceso de aridez.

En Cuba se aplican políticas destinadas a satisfacer las necesidades económicas con el uso eficiente de recursos naturales y menor emisión de residuos al entorno. En el trabajo se realiza la evaluación de impacto ambiental de la producción de puré de tomate, mermelada de guayaba y encurtido de col en la fábrica Álvaro Barba, utilizando el Análisis de Ciclo de Vida. A partir de los inventarios se identifican cualitativamente los principales impactos que se generan, se llega a conclusiones y se proponen medidas. La aplicación de la metodología del ACV se realiza sobre la base de la NC ISO 14040:2009 con el software Sima Pro 9.1, método ReCiPe. El estudio demostró que las mayores contribuciones al impacto total, para los tres procesos estudiados, corresponden a las emisiones del propio proceso de producción y al tipo de envase. Las categorías de mayor impacto son calentamiento global y formación de material particulado.

Se estudiaron los efectos de la sobre-elevación del nivel del mar que viene ocurriendo con ocasión del cambio climático en los cayos de Serranilla, Serrana, Roncador, del Este-Sudeste y Albuquerque. Para la caracterización se efectuaron dos campañas oceanográficas en 2009 y 2010 donde se midieron las características geo-morfo-dinámicas de cada uno. Las tendencias climáticas fueron extraídas con base en los datos horarios de 60 años del re-análisis de NCAR. Se calcularon el retroceso de las playas de los cayos por efecto del aumento de la cota de inundación, aumento del Hs12 y por el cambio de dirección del flujo medio de energía para los años 2025, 2055 y 2085. El cálculo establece que ocurrirá un retroceso de las playas de los cayos y que será de alrededor de uno a dos metros para el año 2025, de 3-7 metros para 2055 y hasta de 15 metros para 2085.

La literatura sobre emprendedurismo y gestión estratégica sugiere el efecto positivo de la orientación estratégica (OE) sobre el desempeño de las empresas en ambientes hostiles; no obstante, los resultados son de empresas grandes de países desarrollados; en circunstancias de estabilidad económica y social, donde el ambiente hostil se debe a factores tecnológicos, industriales o de mercado. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el desempeño de negocios artesanales como resultado de la OE de los dueños, en un marco de crisis de deterioro económico, inestabilidad social y cambio climático en Oaxaca, México. Con base en los datos de 101 negocios artesanales, analiza dos con correlación bivariada de Pearson y regresión lineal múltiple, los resultados del estudio indican un efecto positivo de innovación y proactividad sobre el desempeño. En contra de lo esperado, se encuentra un efecto negativo de agresividad competitiva sobre el desempeño. Se concluye que, aunque los dueños de negocios artesanales se comprometen en tres dimensiones de OE para mejorar el desempeño, no todas ellas tienen efecto, ni logran modificarlo de la misma manera, debido a las condiciones contextuales.

La Antártida es un escenario privilegiado para efectuar investigaciones en muchos campos de la ciencia, incluidos estudios relacionados con los ecosistemas, la biodiversidad y la adaptación de la vida a las particulares condiciones ambientales existentes. En los últimos años se han incrementado los proyectos relacionados con el estudio del cambio climático, sus efectos locales e influencia en procesos globales. La celebración del Año Polar Internacional 2007-2008 ha significado un impulso de las investigaciones polares y ha abierto nuevas perspectivas para la investigación en la Antártida. En este artículo se destaca la importancia de la cooperación internacional para la investigación antártica y la función que en ello desarrolla el Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). Se comenta también la contribución española desde que nuestro país se incorporó a dicho foro y se hace un repaso de algunos temas y campos de investigación que se apuntan como de mayor interés para los próximos años dentro de la investigación antártica.

Interesa a la ingeniería, el desarrollo biotecnológico de técnicas de tratamiento de agua para la remoción de contaminantes, aprovechando las propiedades de las fibras de Luffa cylindrica (FLc). Así lo exponen los argumentos explicados en varias investigaciones realizadas en todo el mundo en las que se describe un sugestivo escenario de razones válidas para considerar a la fibra del estropajo, como un material industrialmente promisorio y sostenible, apto para la realización de tratamientos de remoción de contaminantes y en la separación de sustancias inmersas en matrices fluidas. También explican la utilización de las fibras como matriz inmovilizadora para sostener comunidades microbianas activas implantadas con fines específicos; incluso, al comprender la arquitectura y las propiedades mecánicas de las FLc, se explora su utilización como agregado en la obtención de materiales compuestos, en la producción de nuevas sustancias y su capacidad para retener humedad. El presente artículo se refiere a la descripción de los procesos de adsorción e inmovilización en los que se ha involucrado a las FLc haciendo una revisión de experiencias investigativas. A la vez se estudian, los razonamientos que han permitido describir las técnicas y que posibilitan el aporte de soluciones al problema de la remoción de contaminantes y del tratamiento de agua.

A partir de la implementación del proyecto “Fortalecimiento de la capacidad de adaptación de la agricultura al cambio climático en territorios productores de agua en Cundinamarca”, el presente artículo de investigación analiza las estrategias de adaptación en las comunidades de las localidades de Claraval y Chuscales del municipio de Junín, departamento de Cundinamarca, Colombia, experiencia en la cual se utilizó la metodología de Investigación Acción Participativa (IAP), con el fin de ajustar criterios de investigación y principios agroecológicos para evaluar las estrategias implementadas. Se incluyó un ejercicio de cartografía social, como un instrumento de planificación y transformación social como soporte a la metodología MESMIS (Marco para la Evaluación de Sistemas de Manejo de Recursos Naturales incorporando Indicadores de Sustentabilidad). Se encontró que la adopción de estrategias agroecológicas para mitigar el cambio climático mejora la dieta de las familias, aumenta el número de productos de la canasta familiar, además los sistemas de policultivos son más eficaces biológicamente en comparación a los monocultivos y que hay mayor estabilidad ecológica, económica, social, energética, e incremento de la productividad laboral en estos agroecosistemas. Se concluye que los sistemas silvopastoriles y policultivos son una estrategia importante en la adaptación de los pequeños productores a los efectos del cambio climático y que la resiliencia de los cultivos y de los productores es importante para la adaptación y recuperación de los sistemas productivos

An account of the resource
The microvinification of nine Eurasian wild grapevine populations situated in different habitats in La Rioja (Spain) and the Basque Country (Spain, France) were carried out. Populations were observed at flowering time in order to assess the presence of male and female vines. Both harvests took place during the last week of October and the first week of November in 2015 and 2016. Bunches were destalked by hand selecting only ripe grapes, pressed and the amount of must in each sample was weighed. The mixture of must with seedsand skins were fermented at 20ºC with native yeasts without the addition of Potassium metabisulphite. The principal objective was to determine the main oenological characteristics of these wild wines. Due to the small size of the grapes and the fact that their seeds (1 or 2) are quite bulky, the volume of must obtained is very low in each microvinification (15.3 and 16.7 % in weight). In 2015, they showed higher values of alcoholic concentration, lower total acidity and higher pH than with the wines of the year 2016 because berries were more mature and healthier. On the other hand, the ethanol concentration lies between 6.5 and 9%. In both years, the total acidity values are high due to the elevated content of tartaric acid, situated between 5.3 and 7.2 g/l. The color intensity of wines presents high values, between 15 and 23. This is closely related to the high content of anthocyanins, between 470 and 531 mg/l and the high total polyphenols index, within the interval (65.8, 107). Inall the samples both kinds of values are considered appropriate for young red wines. These wild wines may suggest that the wild grapevine is a very interesting phytogenetic resource. It might improve the acidity and color intensity of wines by crossing with red cultivars, a very important characteristics in the present context of climatic change, mainly in warming regions, such as the Mediterranean vineyards. ____________________________________________Se ha realizado la microvinificación de nueve poblaciones de vid silvestre euroasiáticas situadas en diferentes hábitats de La Rioja (España) y el País Vasco (España, Francia). Las poblaciones se observaron previamente en el momento de la floración para evaluar la presencia de ejemplares masculinos y femeninos. Ambas vendimias tuvieron lugar durante la última semana de octubre y la primera de noviembre de 2015 y 2016. Los racimos se despalillaron a mano seleccionando solo bayas maduras, se prensaron y se pesó la cantidad de mosto de cada muestra. La mezcla de mosto con semillas y pieles se fermentó a 20ºCcon levaduras nativas sin adición de metabisulfito potásico. El objetivo principal era conocer las principales características enológicas de estos vinos de vid silvestre. Debido al pequeño tamaño de las bayas y al hecho de que las semillas (1 o 2) son bastante voluminosas, el volumen de mosto obtenido es muy bajo en cada microvinificación (15,3 y 16,7% en peso). En 2015, mostraron valores más altos de concentraciónalcohólica, menor acidez total y mayor pH que en los vinos del año 2016, porque las bayas eran más maduras y saludables. Por otro lado, la concentración de etanol se sitúa entre 6,5 y 9%. En ambos años, los valores de acidez total son altos debido al alto contenido de ácido tartárico, situado entre 5,3 y 7,2 g / l. La intensidad del color de los vinos presenta valores altos, entre 15 y 23. Esto está estrechamente relacionado con el contenido elevado de antocianinas, entre 470 y 531 mg / l y el elevado índice de polifenoles totales, situado dentro del intervalo (65.8-107).
