The impact of DD onbackground aerosol conditions is detectable by means of aerosol loadthresholds and complementary information provided by HYSPLIT (Hybrid SingleParticle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory Model) air mass back trajectories,MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) images, forecastaerosol models, and synoptic maps, which have been carefully reviewed by ahuman observer for each day included in the DD inventory. This identificationmethod allows the detection of low and moderate DD intrusions and also ofmixtures of mineral dust with other aerosol types by means of the analysis ofα. During the period studied (2003–2014), a total of 152 DD episodescomposed of 418 days are identified. Overall, this means ∼ 13 episodesand ∼ 35 days per year with DD intrusion, representing9.5 % days year−1. During the identified DD intrusions, 19 dailyexceedances over 50 µg m−3 are reported at the surface. Theoccurrence of DD event days during the year peaks in March and June, with amarked minimum in April and lowest occurrence in winter. A large interannualvariability is observed showing a statistically significant temporaldecreasing trend of ∼ 3 days year−1. The DD impact on the aerosolclimatology is addressed by evaluating the DD contribution in magnitude andpercent (in brackets) for AOD, PM10, PM2.5, and PM2.5 − 10,obtaining mean values of 0.015 (11.5 %), 1.3 µg m−3(11.8 %), 0.55 µg m−3 (8.5 %) and0.79 µg m−3 (16.1 %), respectively. Annual cycles of the DDcontribution for AOD and PM10 present two maxima – one in summer (0.03and 2.4 µg m−3 for AOD in June and PM10 in August) andanother in March (0.02 for AOD and 2.2 µg m−3 for PM10)– both displaying a similar evolution with exceptions in July and September.The seasonal cycle of the DD contribution to AOD does not follow the patternof the total AOD (close to a bell shape), whereas both PM10 cycles(total and DD contribution) are more similar to each other in shape, with anexception in September. The interannual evolution of the DD contribution toAOD and PM10 has evidenced a progressive decrease. This decline in thelevels of mineral dust aerosols can explain up to 30 % of the total aerosolload decrease observed in the study area during the period 2003–2014. Therelationship between columnar and surface DD contribution shows a correlationcoefficient of 0.81 for the interannual averages. Finally, synopticconditions during DD events are also analysed, observing that the northAfrican thermal low causes most of the events ( ∼  53 %). Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el grado de oxidación del carbono orgánico y las tasas de agregación del suelo en sistemas con manejo orgánico y diferentes cultivos de cobertura. Los sistemas seleccionados fueron formas de cultivo y cubierta vegetal: labranza tradicional del suelo (maíz-CT), labranza cero (berenjena-NT), consorcio maracuyá - Desmodium sp, cultivo de higos, agroforestales (AFS) y bosque secundario. Se colectaron muestras de suelo a profundidades de 0-5 y 5-10 cm en todos ellos. Se cuantificó el carbono orgánico total (TOC) y se realizó su fraccionamiento, para separar el carbono en cuatro fracciones (F1, F2, F3 y F4), con grados decrecientes de oxidación, mediante el uso de cantidades crecientes de ácido sulfúrico. Se determinó la estabilidad de agregados en húmedo mediante peso medio de diámetro (MWD), diámetro medio geométrico (GMD) y el índice de sensibilidad (SI). El área bajo cultivo de maíz mostraron menores niveles de TOC y el índice de agregación, en las dos profundidades estudiadas. Si bien los ámbitos de la berenjena y el higo mostraron niveles más altos en el TOC de 0-5 cm de profundidad, y MWD en la profundidad de 5-10 cm. Valores de SI más de 1 se encontraron en las áreas del higo y maracuyá. En general, la fracción F1 representados la mayoría de los TOC y en todos los ámbitos, tanto en las profundidades estudiadas. El SAF tiene la proporción más baja del COT en las cuatro fracciones (0-5 cm). El área de berenjena (0-5 cm) mostraron mayores niveles de carbono en las fracciones F1, F2 y F3. Sin embargo, la profundidad de 5-10 cm, este comportamiento se observó para el área de cultivo de maíz, excepto para la fracción F1. Los resultados indican que la dirección adoptada en el área de maíz que está desfavoreciendo la agregación de los suelos y el TOC. Su objetivo principal es articular acciones que permitan a la comunidad tener mejores herramientas para enfrentar la complejidad de la problemática y el cuidado de nuestro ecosistema.  Se considera un espacio proactivo y participativo, abierto a la incorporación de nuevos actores. Procura establecer lineamientos de políticas públicas sobre Educación Ambiental, orientadas a la promoción de comunidades sustentables. Es un problema que, en el mundo, se ha incrementado en las últimas décadas como consecuencia del cambio climático. En México, la sequía afecta a más personas que cualquier otra contingencia natural, por lo que se requiere estudiarla para poder prevenir y mitigar sus efectos. En la península de Yucatán (PY), zona privilegiada por tener un vasto manto acuífero, la sequía no se presenta de manera tan catastrófica como en otros estados de la república. La sequía produce pérdidas y bajo rendimiento de cultivos, cabezas de ganado y colmenas, disminución de la calidad de los productos, así como incremento en los costos de producción, lo que produce reducción en el ingreso de los productores. A nivel de los organismos operadores no se registra baja en la disponibilidad de agua durante la época de sequía y sólo se reporta su disminución para consumo humano en algunas localidades en donde el acuífero se encuentra muy profundo o la calidad natural del agua no es adecuada para consumo humano. Registros de temperatura indican que tres de cada cuatro estaciones climáticas evaluadas en México señalan un calentamiento en el periodo 1950-2013, tomando como referencia al periodo base 1961-1990. Después de un análisis completo de registros climáticos en México, se determinó que solamente 112 registros cumplen con la calidad y estándares requeridos para el presente estudio, de ahí se seleccionó, de forma aleatoria, un subconjunto de 20 estaciones con tendencia positiva, representativas de entornos rurales y urbanos, distribuidas en las regiones de México. García-Maldonado Description An account of the resource The southern Gulf of Mexico (sGoM) is highly susceptible to receiving environmental impacts due to the recent increase in oil-related activities. In this study, we assessed the changes in the bacterioplankton community structure caused by a simulated oil spill at mesocosms scale. The 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis indicated that the initial bacterial community was mainly represented by Gamma-proteobacteria, Alpha-proteobacteria, Flavobacteriia, and Cyanobacteria. The hydrocarbon degradation activity, measured as the number of culturable hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria (CHB) and by the copy number of the alkB gene, was relatively low at the beginning of the experiment. However, after four days, the hydrocarbonoclastic activity reached its maximum values and was accompanied by increases in the relative abundance of the well-known hydrocarbonoclastic Alteromonas. At the end of the experiment, the diversity was restored to similar values as those observed in the initial time, although the community structure and composition were clearly different, where Marivita, Pseudohongiella, and Oleibacter were detected to have differential abundances on days eight&#8722;14. These changes were related with total nitrogen (p value = 0.030 and r2 = 0.22) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (p value = 0.048 and r2 = 0.25), according to PERMANOVA. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of the potential response of the bacterioplankton from sGoM to crude oil spills.
