González-Andújar Description An account of the resource Population models are particularly helpful for understanding long-term changes in the weed dynamics associated with integrated weed management (IWM) strategies. IWM practices for controlling L. rigidum are of high importance, mainly due to its widespread resistance that precludes chemical control as a single management method. The objective of this contribution is to simulate different IWM scenarios with special emphasis on the impact of different levels of barley sowing densities on L. rigidum control. To this effect, a weed–crop population model for both L. rigidum and barley life cycles was developed. Our results point out: (i) the necessity of achieving high control efficiencies (>99%), (ii) that the increase of twice the standard sowing density of barley resulted in a reduction of 23.7% of the weed density, (iii) non-herbicide-based individual methods, such as delayed sowing and weed seed removal at harvest, proved to be inefficient for reducing drastically weed population, (iv) the implementation of at least three control tactics (seed removal, delay sowing and herbicides) is required for weed infestation eradication independently of the sowing rate, and (v) the effect of an increase in the sowing density is diluted as a more demanding weed control is reached. Future research should aim to disentangle the effect of different weed resistance levels on L. rigidum population dynamics and the required efficiencies for more sustainable IWM programs. In fisheries management, justice has generally been understood in terms of the distribution of social, cultural, and economic benefits. However, there are also important procedural justice challenges in the fisheries system, which are fundamental to the long-term sustainability and equity of the oceans. Procedural justice is related to the conditions under which the negotiation for benefit distribution takes place. That is, the procedures, structures, and processes that lead to the distribution of resources. In this study, we empirically assess fishers’ perceptions of procedural justice components within a small-scale fishery management policy in Chile which has been shifting toward a polycentric type of governance during the past 7 years. We specifically assess perceptions of management committee members. Management committees have been constituted as spaces of collective action for participatory decision-making. We decompose procedural justice in seven subcomponents and assess perceptions associated to achievement in the administration of fisheries. Our results show that management committee members perceive heterogeneity in the achievement of different procedural justice components, which is a central element in achieving equitable development in the oceans. The highest perceptions of achievement were found in the procedures for the selection of participants, the use of various types of technical and local knowledge for decision-making, and the perception by participants of ethical and impartial procedures. We also identified significant challenges related to an inflexible legal structure that hinders adaptive management and learning as a tool for institutional transformation. In addition, mechanisms for communicating decisions to users and clear accountability procedures were perceived as weak. It is critical to address these gaps as they can jeopardize the implementation and legitimacy of fisheries management. Focusing on different components of procedural justice can provide an important lens through which advances and gaps in fisheries policy can be identified and worked upon. Esta zona presenta inundaciones, sequías, heladas y granizadas; además está situado en un área semi árida, donde existe un nivel medio de amenaza en cuanto a sequías, presentando un alto déficit hídrico. Por consiguiente, se requiere la implementación de un sistema de riego que coadyuve a mejorar el rendimiento de la producción agrícola y garantice la disponibilidad de agua para riego en la zona. Los resultados obtenidos de este análisis indican que existirá un incremento de amenaza de sequías y heladas, considerados como riesgos principales para el ARI. Este análisis está basado en tres módulos de estudio, Análisis de Riesgos, Análisis de Resiliencia Climática y Análisis de Beneficio/Costo, se plantearon medidas de mitigación de exposición al riesgo, como ser, cambiar la ubicación del atajado y fortalecer no sólo las capacidades de limpieza del sistema de riego, sino también la capacidad de atender eventos de cambio climático. Por lo tanto, se logrará una reducción del riesgo del sistema en un 40%, considerando el riesgo actual y el riesgo con incidencia al cambio climático. Por su parte, se alcanzará un costo evitado de Bs. 1.526.668 por pérdidas de reconstrucción y atención a la emergencia. Por lo tanto, el presente estudio busca determinar la variación de la cantidad de agua disponible en el embalse bajo el set de escenarios de cambio climático establecidos en el quinto informe del Panel Intergubernamental sobre el Cambio Climático (IPCC) para el periodo 2022-2090. El área de estudio se limitó a la microcuenca Milluni, tomando el embalse Milluni Grande como punto de desemboque. La modelación hidrológica se realizó mediante la herramienta Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP) utilizando el ensamble de datos diarios de precipitación y temperatura generado a través de la herramienta Gridded Meteorological Ensemble Tool (GMET). Se incorporaron los escenarios de cambio climático empleando el Modelo 1 del Sistema Terrestre de Noruega NorESM1-M, reduciendo su escala mediante el método no paramétrico de vecinos más cercanos (knn-bootstrap). Se obtuvieron las siguientes tendencias para el periodo y área de estudio: incremento general de temperatura, incremento de precipitación en época seca y reducción de precipitación en época húmeda, lo cual puede generar situaciones de sequía. Por otra parte, el caudal de entrada al embalse Milluni Grande tiene tendencia a variar de forma directamente proporcional a la precipitación, mientras que su volumen tiene tendencia a reducirse. Asimismo, puede existir un déficit en la cobertura de los requerimientos de los sitios de demanda, llegando a valores mínimos de 45% para el sistema de distribución Achachicala y 27% para el sistema Meseta. Todos los resultados son acentuados en el escenario pesimista RCP 8.5.
