Las pérdidas y desperdicios de alimentos (PDA) se originan en el campo hasta su transformación y consumo, generando un impacto negativo en los recursos naturales (agua y suelo) y pérdida de nutrientes (energía y proteína). Las PDA pueden emplearse en la alimentación animal mediante su transformación y enriquecimiento, favoreciendo la conservación ambiental y conduciendo a una “producción orgánica”. Se han realizado estudios caracterizando nutricionalmente las PDA ofrecidas en distintas formas, proporción y mezcla, así como, su relación con el desempeño animal, obteniendo resultados alentadores de conversión, ganancia de peso y desempeño reproductivo. Es así que en ésta revisión se presentan algunas alternativas en el uso de residuos de plato con alternativas que reducen la carga microbiana y su uso en alimentación de cerdos con valores que han sido favorables para la producción. Además, se ha propuesto al ensilaje como estrategia para su aprovechamiento de los PDA, y como una alternativa de bajo costo para economías campesinas y sistemas de producción sostenibles amigables con el medio ambiente.

Los probióticos del tipo Lactobacillus spp. son considerados alternativas promisorias para reemplazar los antibióticos como promotores de crecimiento (APC) en las explotaciones avícolas, ya que influyen en el desarrollo poseclosión del tracto gastrointestinal (TGI) y en su ecología microbiana. En este estudio se evaluó la morfometría del intestino delgado en pollos de engorde al suministrar 0.5mL/L de un producto comercial a base de Lactobacillus spp. Se utilizaron 200 pollos machos de un día de edad, de la línea Avian Cobb 48, los cuales se distribuyeron, con un diseño completamente al azar, en dos grupos, denominados control y experimento; ambos grupos fueron mantenidos en condiciones similares de alimentación, manejo y sanidad. A los días 7, 15 y 35 de edad se realizó el sacrificio y la necropsia; se disectaron segmentos de duodeno, yeyuno e íleon para su procesamiento con la técnica de coloración de Hematoxilina-Eosina (HE). Los cambios morfométricos de longitud, ancho y cantidad de vellosidades fueron evaluados utilizando un microscopio trinocular con cámara digital Moticam®. Contexto: Uno de los desafíos actuales es proporcionar alimento al mundo teniendo en cuenta que los crecimientos demográficos se desplazan a las áreas urbanas, por lo que los sistemas urbanos de producción agrícola son importantes como una solución real ante la demanda poblacional.Objetivo: Comparar distintas alternativas de nutrición bioorgánicas y su influencia en los indicadores de crecimiento y rendimiento en el cultivo de la zanahoria (Daucus carota var. sativa).Métodos: La investigación se realizó en áreas del huerto intensivo Ernesto Che Guevara en la UEB #2 perteneciente a la Empresa Agropecuaria del municipio Esmeralda de Diciembre 2016 a Marzo 2017 sobre un suelo oscuro plástico no gleyzado de buena fertilidad. El objetivo de la investigación fue El diseño experimental utilizado fue completamente aleatorizado con cinco tratamientos y tres repeticiones, se evaluaron los indicadores siguientes: altura de la planta, longitud de la raíz y rendimiento.Resultados: Los mejores indicadores agronómicos se obtuvieron de lostratamientos con humus líquido fortificado, mejorado y el humus líquido enriquecido con boro, calcio y zinc, los cuales no difieren entre ellos, pero sí con relación al humus líquido natural, y al testigo.El humus líquido fortificado logró el mejor rendimiento y los mayores beneficios económicos.Conclusiones: Se evidencia una respuesta favorable a las alternativas bioorgánicas de utilizadas que se manifiestan en el crecimiento vegetativo y rendimiento. El humus líquido fortificado resultó el de mayor efecto económico con un notable incremento de la ganancia con relación al testigo.

O milho é cultura fundamental para as pequenas propriedades de economia familiar em Santa Catarina, tanto sob o aspecto econômico quanto social. A utilização de cultivares de milho de polinização aberta constitui uma alternativa viável para cultivo pelos agricultores familiares por apresentar baixo custo da semente e possibilidade de produção própria desta. A cultivar de polinização aberta SCS 154 (Fortuna), desenvolvida pela Epagri/Centro de Pesquisa para Agricultura Familiar – Cepaf –, possui potencial produtivo superior a 6.000kg/ha e adaptação às condições edafoclimáticas do Estado. Estas características mostram que esta nova cultivar é uma boa alternativa na busca da inserção da pequena produção no contexto da agricultura sustentável.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal estudiar el potencial competitivo de tres empresas del sector agroindustrial de la Provincia de Ubaté, a través de una herramienta que permite hacer este análisis desde una perspectiva endógena. Se describe primero la fundamentación teórica y posteriormente se describe paso a paso el método, cuyo uso fue motivado por la posibilidad de disminuir las dificultades actuales para medir la competitividad de una empresa: necesidad de niveles altos de información de los competidores y la multiplicidad de componentes a calificar en los rankings actuales. Desde una metodología analítico-descriptiva se presentan resultados, cuyo origen requirió análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo, y las conclusiones comparadas validan el modelo en el contexto estudiado y su nivel de replicabilidad a otras empresas del sector.

La existencia de definiciones contrastantes acerca de la vulnerabilidad al cambio climático plantea un desafío central para la relación entre la ciencia y las políticas públicas para la adaptación a este. Tras revisar las principales corrientes de conceptualización de la vulnerabilidad al cambio climático, el artículo critica la utilización del enfoque de riesgo-amenaza como base conceptual para su medición. Con ejemplos concretos se ilustra cómo el concepto de vulnerabilidad resultante es profundamente diferente en cuanto al tipo de conocimiento generado y al enfoque epistemológico empleado dependiendo de si se utiliza el concepto de vulnerabilidad inherente o el de vulnerabilidad resultante. El trabajo concluye que la utilización de uno u otro conlleva políticas públicas radicalmente diferentes en sus alcances.

Este artigo discute a importância da educação formal no processo de formação de uma nova geração de agricultores e baseia-se em uma pesquisa realizada em 116 unidades de produção representativas da agricultura familiar do oeste de Santa Catarina, onde foram entrevistados os pais, os filhos e as filhas com idade entre 15 e 29 anos. Os resultados da pesquisa mostram que acabaram ficando nos estabelecimentos justamente aqueles filhos que tiveram menos tempo de estudo. Constatou-se que os jovens com idade entre 20 e 30 anos, potenciais candidatos à sucessão da unidade familiar, possuem um baixo grau de instrução formal, na grande maioria, apenas até a 4ª série do ensino fundamental, o que dificulta o desempenho da atividade agropecuária, bem como a organização e o desenvolvimento de novas oportunidades de renda, como é o caso da produção agroecológica, a agroindustrialização artesanal, o turismo rural, dentre outras. Isto sugere a necessidade de encontrar alternativas para recuperar o atraso escolar da maioria dos atuais e potenciais sucessores do estabelecimento paterno, bem como o desenvolvimento de métodos alternativos de educação formal que contribuam para valorizar o espaço rural e que fortaleçam as relações econômicas e sociais do espaço rural.
