Usamos seis iscas: homem, cavalo, vaca, carneiro, galo e sapo. O cavalo atraiu o maior número de exemplares, seguindo-se a vaca, o homem, o galo e o carneiro, sendo que o sapo não foi atacado. A isca humana foi a que atraiu mais espécies. Observamos uma tendência zoófila para as espécies locais - An. albitarsis, An. aquasalis, Ae. scapularis, Ae. taeniorhynchus, Cq. venezuelensis, Ma. titillans, Ps. ciliata, Ph. davisi e Ph. deanei sugaram principalemte cavalo e vaca, enquanto os Culex do subgênero Culex pareceram-nos mais ornitófilos e os do subgênero Microculex preferiram animais pecilotérmicos em experimentos que realizamos no laboratório. Ma. titillans foi a espécie preponderante em todas as iscas, demonstrado elevado ecletismo. Para estudar a freqüência domiciliar e peridomiciliar fizemos, mensalmente, de agosto de 1981 a julho de 1982, capturas dentro e fora de uma casa. Excetuando algumas espécies com maior propensão à endofilia principalmente An. aquasalis e Cx. quinquefasciatus, os mosquitos locais mostram-se mais exófilos. Foram visitantes ocasionais do domicílo: Ma. titillans, Ae. scapularis, Ae. taeniorhynchus e Cx. saltanensis.Results are presented on mosquito catches performed between january 1982 and March 1983, in Granjas Calábria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in order to evaluate their host preferences. We used six baits, man, horse, cow, sheep, cock and toad. Horse attracted the greatest number of mosquitoes, followed by cow, man, cock and sheep, no mosquito fed on toad. man was the bait which attracted the largest number of species. Most local species were definetely zoophilic - An. albitarsis, An. aquasalis, Ae. scapularis, Ae. taeniorhynchus, Cq. venezuelensis, Ma. titillans, Ps. ciliata, ph. davisi and Ph. deanei preferred mainly horse and cow, while the species of Culex of subgenus Culex preferred avian blood, and those of subgenus Microculex showed a marked preference to fed on a toad, in our laboratory experiments. Ma. titillans was the most abundant mosquito on all baits, being hightly ecletic. Catches were carried out monthlt, indoors and outdoors, from August 1981 to july 1982 in order to study the house frequency. The local species rarely invaded the house. Ma. titillans, Ae. scapularis, Ae. taeniorhynchus and Cx. saltanenesis were occasionally found inside human dwellings but were much more frequently caught outdoors. An. aquasalis and Cx. quinquefasciatus showed to be the most domestic. En terreno, estudiamos las variaciones temporales en su distribución, densidad y dieta. En el laboratorio, cuantificamos la tasa de consumo, las preferencias alimentarias, el tiempo de ingestión y la rentabilidad energética obtenida con distintos tipos de presas mediante experimentos y registros en video. Las mayores densidades de individuos de A. monodon fueron observadas en la franja intermareal cercana al nivel cero de marea. En terreno, A. monodon realiza sus actividades de forrajeo principalmente durante la noche y su dieta consistió principalmente de mitílidos (95 %) y cirripedios (5 %). La composición de la dieta de A. monodon en terreno presentó variaciones temporales las cuales dependerían principalmente de cambios en la oferta de los distintos tipos de mitílidos presentes en terreno durante los dos años de muestreo. En el laboratorio, los individuos de Acanthina presentaron preferencias alimentarias significativas por el mitílido Semimytilus algosus. En general, A. monodon bajo condiciones de laboratorio presentó una conducta de forrajeo en la cual maximizó la ganancia neta de energía, mediante la selección de las especies y tamaños de presas que le retribuyen la mayor rentabilidad energéticaWe investigated the ecology and foraging behavior of Acanthina monodon, a muricid gastropod that inhabits in the intertidal rocky shores of central Chile. In the field, we studied temporal variation of their spatial distribution, density, and diet composition. While in the laboratory, we quantified the consumption rate, alimentary preferences, ingestion times and energy profitability obtained with different types of prey using experiments and video recording. High densities of A. monodon individuals were observed in the intertidal fringe near at the level tide zero. In the field, A. monodon actively foraged at night preying mainly on mussels (95 %) and barnacles (5 %). Temporal variation in diet composition of A. monodon was caused mostly by changes in the cover of different mussel species during the two years of sampling. In the laboratory, individual of A. monodon showed significant preference for the mussel Semimytilus algosus. La disposición de estos colorantes a los recursos de agua se debe evitar; para tal efecto, se utilizan varias técnicas de tratamiento, siendo la adsorción una de las más empleadas. Este artículo presenta un estudio sobre la adsorción del colorante azul de metileno (AM) en disolución acuosa sobre carbón activado granular (CAG) a 25°C. Se realizaron experimentos por lote para determinar el efecto de la concentración inicial (300-1100mg dm-3) y del pH (4-8), sobre la capacidad de adsorción y el porcentaje de remoción. Las isotermas de equilibrio fueron analizadas a partir de las ecuaciones de Langmuir y Freundlich usando el coeficiente de correlación. Los datos experimentales muestran un ajuste satisfactorio con el modelo de isoterma de Langmuir. Los valores de capacidad máxima de adsorción de AM en monocapa obtenidos fueron de 76,3; 79,4; 80,6; 83,3 y 87mg g-1 a los pH de 4, 5, 6, 7 y 8, respectivamente. Se estudiaron 192 genotipos y 4 testigos bajo un diseño de bloques aumentados en 3 experimentos sembrados bajo el sistema de trasplante entre abril y mayo de 2015 en las localidades de Saldaña, Villavicencio y Monte- ría. Se emplearon 8 bloques con 28 genotipos cada uno, conformando 224 parcelas de 7,5 m2, por lo que alcanzó un área total de 1680 m2 por localidad. La distribución de las variables cuali- tativas reveló diferencias en su expresión en las localidades, excepto virus de hoja blanca estado vegetativo (VHBVg) en Montería. Asimismo, el análisis comparativo entre los datos ajustados y el promedio del mejor testigo por localidad para cada variable cuantitativa evidenció diferencias. Se identificaron accesiones de la colección con rasgos agronómicos sobresalientes para varia- bles fisiológicas como fortaleza de los tallos (FrTll), senescencia de la hoja (SnHj), excersión de panícula (ExPc), habilidad de macollamien- to (HbMc), vigor vegetativo (VVg); así como para variables relacionadas con el rendimiento y sus componentes, como rendimiento en grano (RnGr), número total de espiguillas por panícula (NmEsPn), número de espiguillas llenas por paní- cula (NmEsLlPn), longitud de panícula (LnPn) y peso de mil granos secos (PsMlGr); también para variables de calidad y apariencia de grano tales como longitud (LnGr) y ancho de grano (AnGr) y contenido de amilosa (CnAm). El trabajo tiene como objetivo diagnosticar el control y la garantía de la calidad de los alimentos con base en el Análisis de Peligros y Puntos Críticos de Control en un restaurante de primera clase en la ciudad de Manta. El método aplicado fue descriptivo, no probabilístico, en este caso la muestra se selecciona por conveniencia. La técnica utilizada fue la encuesta, se aplicó un cuestionario al número total de trabajadores en el restaurante seleccionado y se realizó una entrevista con el gerente general. Embora estejam intimamente integrados à cultura humana por causa de sua ampla distribuição geográfica, muitas vezes os insetos estão fortemente associados com nocividade. Através do projeto “Diversidade de insetos no Parque Ecológico do Córrego Grande: Educação Ambiental e Conservação”, informações biológicas e ecológicas sobre os insetos são disseminadas à população de Florianópolis, SC. Desde 2008, o processo de desmistificação tem sido realizado através do contato com insetos vivos, a fim de eliminar pré-conceitos e criar experiências positivas com a transmissão de conhecimento biológico. Durante seis anos, estudantes têm criado e mantido diversas espécies de insetos nativos em viveiros para exibi-los ao público visitante. O projeto atingiu um total de 6.216 atendimentos, dos quais 4.946 foram constituídos de estudantes em visitas escolares, representando 80% do total. Assim, o projeto atinge um número importante de pessoas, fazendo com que a importância dos insetos nos sistemas ecológicos seja compreendida, podendo influenciar em comportamentos de respeito aos seres vivos, que podem ser adotados pelo público e passados às futuras gerações. Se utilizó 3 análisis: concentración total de nutrimentos, bioensayo microbiano, y extracción de nutrimentos en invernadero. Este último se realizó con los abonos puros y mezclados suelo: abono 4:1. Los materiales fueron 1 vermicomposte (estiércol de ganado vacuno) y 3 compostes (cachaza de caña de azúcar, broza de café y pulpa de naranja). Las concentraciones totales oscilaron entre 0,90-2,12% para N, 0,36-3,02% para P y 0,94- 2,21% para K. Con el bioensayo microbiano la disponibilidad a 3 meses plazo fue 12-30% para N, 6-23% para P y 5-9% para K. Se considera que esta metodología subestima la disponibilidad para este último elemento, aunque parece predecir adecuadamente la disponibilidad de N y P a corto plazo. Con la extracción de nutrimentos en invernadero con los abonos puros, la disponibilidad varió de 4-15% para N, 1-4% para P y 6-49% para K. Se encontró una alta correlación entre las metodologías de análisis de totales y el bioensayo microbiano y una buena correlación entre estos 2 métodos y el ensayo de extracción en invernadero, con los abonos orgánicos mezclados con suelo, pero no con materiales puros. Este trabajo aporta evidencia cuantitativa de la disponibilidad de N, P y K a partir de abonos orgánicos, que sin pretender ser definitiva, presenta valores que podrían ser utilizados como referencia para futuros trabajos. Céspedes-Acuña, Julio Alarcón-Enos Description An account of the resource The Chilean plants Discaria chacaye, Talguenea quinquenervia (Rhamnaceae), Peumus boldus (Monimiaceae), and Cryptocarya alba (Lauraceae) were evaluated against Codling moth: Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) and fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster (Diptera: Drosophilidae), which is one of the most widespread and destructive primary pests of Prunus (plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, almonds), pear, walnuts, and chestnuts, among other. Four benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (coclaurine, laurolitsine, boldine, and pukateine) were isolated from the above mentioned plant species and evaluated regarding their insecticidal activity against the codling moth and fruit fly. The results showed that these alkaloids possess acute and chronic insecticidal effects. The most relevant effect was observed at 10 µg/mL against D. melanogaster and at 50 µg/mL against C. pomonella, being the alteration of the feeding, deformations, failure in the displacement of the larvae in the feeding medium of D. melanogaster, and mortality visible effects. In addition, the docking results show that these type of alkaloids present a good interaction with octopamine and ecdysone receptor showing a possible action mechanism. Cuyckens Description An account of the resource El género Polylepis pertenece a la familia Rosaceae e incluye arbustos y árboles que crecen en las altas montañas de Los Andes y de las Sierras Grandes de Córdoba. En su mayoría, forma bosques cuya canopia es dominada por una especie del género Polylepis. Se caracteriza por tener una corteza con muchas láminas color rojizo, ramas retorcidas, hojas pequeñas compuestas y flores inconspicuas, y por crecer —por necesidad o aptitud de hábitat— mayormente en quebradas rocosas. En términos evolutivos, es probable que se haya generado a partir del género Acaena por poliploidía. Los bosques de Polylepis proveen servicios ambientales y socioeconómicos de gran valor, como la protección de fuentes de agua, el control de la erosión y la regulación del microclima y del hábitat para numerosas especies. Los árboles de Polylepis poseen importancia económica para las comunidades campesinas. En este número especial presentamos algunos de los últimos avances en el estudio de los bosques de Polylepis. Muchos de los trabajos fueron presentados durante el último Congreso de Ecología y Conservación de Polylepis que se realizó en Jujuy, Argentina, en el año 2016. Esperamos que el próximo congreso, que tendrá lugar en Ecuador, cuente con un número creciente de estudios y participantes.
