The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of conventional and organic inputs on weed dynamics during the first and second years of agro-ecological transition. Thus, an experiment was arranged in a six-year-old plantation, where transition to organic farming was initiated. The most important species in the first year of transition was Ageratum conyzoides, in most areas evaluated. In the second year, there was a considerable change in the dominance relationship between the species, especially regarding Leunurus sibiricus, which was the most important species in most areas studied during this period. There was also an increase in the number of species present in most areas in the second year. It was concluded that, during the two years of evaluation, changes were verified in the number, diversity, and importance relation between the species from one year to the other.</text>

<text>Objective: To describe the nutritional food situation of the inhabitantsof households without household utilities connection inneighborhoods that form the upper section of commune 3 in thecity of Medellin. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectionalstudy was conducted. Sample size was 220 households, usingsimple random sampling. Information was collected using astructured questionnaire and using the Latin American and CaribbeanFood Security Scale-elcsa (in Spanish, Escala Latinoamericanay Caribeña de Seguridad Alimentaria). A statisticalanalysis was conducted using spss® software Version 19. Informationanalysis was conducted using descriptive an exploratorydata analysis. Furthermore, a multiple correspondence analysiswas conducted to establish social economic and food profiles ofthe households without utilities connection. The study estimatedan association between malnutrition and household socioeconomicvariables using a chi-square test. Results: We found thatthere are two ways of not being connected to household utilities:one as a result of service disconnection (lack of payment)and the other because of access (high risk housing or outsidethe city's territorial plan). Household population distribution ispyramid-shaped and progressive, where the families are mainlyrepresented by two-parent nuclear families where the head ofthe household has an informal labor situation; they have theirown house and their schooling is no higher than SecondarySchool. Malnutrition variables were associated with covariatesas overcrowding, income level and hut-type housing. Twohousehold classifications were obtained which were householdsfacing moderate to severe food and nutrition insecurity and homesfacing slight food insecurity. Conclusion: Households thatwithout utilities connection in the neighborhoods located in theupper sector of commune 3 do not have the economic capacity, and do not have a minimum setting to improve their healthconditions, which creates a permanent food risk, particularly forunderage children. The basic food basket of the participatinghouseholds consists of food that mostly provides carbohydratesand calories; they eat fruit in minimum amounts.</text>

<text>Fully bio-based materials based on thermoplastic starch (TPS) were developed starting from corn starch plasticized with glycerol. The obtained TPS was further blended with five pine resin derivatives: gum rosin (GR), disproportionated gum rosin (dehydroabietic acid, RD), maleic anhydride modified gum rosin (CM), pentaerythritol ester of gum rosin (LF), and glycerol ester of gum rosin (UG). The TPS–resin blend formulations were processed by melt extrusion and further by injection moulding to simulate the industrial conditions. The obtained materials were characterized in terms of mechanical, thermal and structural properties. The results showed that all gum rosin-based additives were able to improve the thermal stability of TPS, increasing the degradation onset temperature. The carbonyl groups of gum rosin derivatives were able to interact with the hydroxyl groups of starch and glycerol by means of hydrogen bond interactions producing a significant increase of the glass transition temperature with a consequent stiffening effect, which in turn improve the overall mechanical performance of the TPS-resin injected moulded blends. The developed TPS–resin blends are of interest for rigid packaging applications.</text>

This work aim to appraise the effect of indolbutyric acid (IBA) and HFF turfa fértil® organic fertilizer concentrations on rooting of semi-hardwood cuttings of peach 'Capdebosq'. The cuttings were treated by IBA at 500; 1,000; 2,000 and 4,000 mg.L-1 and destilled water (0 mg.L-1) as witness. Later on the cuttings were planted in expanded polyestirene trays with 72 cells using vermiculite as substrate and placed inside intermitent mist chamber. At 30 days after the beginning of the experiment was places the HFF turfa fértil® organic fertilizer at concentrations of 0, 3 and 5 mL.L-1 on the tray cells. At 86 days were evaluated the rooted cuttings percentage and the average number of roots per cuttings. The use of HFF turfa fértil® in association with IAB promoted higher rooting in relation of treatments without the organic fertilizer. The higher percentage of peach rooted cuttings were obtained with a combination of 2,000 mg.L-1 of AIB and 5 mL.L-1 of HFF turfa fértil®.</text>
