Se evaluaron cuatro familias de hermanos completos de zapallo, Cucurbita moschata Duch, provenientes de dos ciclos de estabilización genética mediante cruzamientos fraternales y seleccionadas por mayor contenido de materia seca (MS) en el fruto y buenas características para consumo en fresco. La familia F7a sobresalió por su mayor contenido de materia MS en el fruto (15.86% ± 2.17) en comparación con el testigo comercial Unapal-Bolo Verde (10.68% ± 2.08), forma esférica levemente achatada, color externo amarillo claro, color de pulpa amarilla a salmón, espesor de pulpa de 3.71 ± 0.58 cm y peso promedio del fruto de 3.10 ± 0.73 kg, que la convierte en una alternativa para consumo en fresco.Four full-sib families of squash, Cucurbita moschata Duch, from two cycles of genetic stability through crosses fraternal and selected by a higher content of dry matter in fruit and good characteristics for fresh consumption was evaluated. The F7a family had at increased dry matter content in fruit (15.86% ± 2.17) compared with the control-commercial Unapal Bolo Verde (10.68% ± 2.08), slightly flattened spherical form, external color yellow, light yellow flesh color to salmon, flesh thickness of 3.71 cm ± 0.58 and average fruit weight of 3.10 kg ± 0.73, which makes it an alternative for fresh consumption.

Este artículo pretende justificar con las teorías de Terapia Ocupacional una propuesta de intervención comunitaria, la cual contribuya a promover la salud mental de los colombianos, la formación de valores éticos y el desarrollo de actitudes personales que promuevan la convivencia. Describe el impacto sobre el desempeño ocupacional de las disfunciones psicosociales que pueden tener origen en la situación nacional. Se basa en autores como Neuhaus, Van Amburg, Short-De Graft, Kielhofner y Trujillo. Plantea la propuesta de intervención comunitaria con los programas de Desarrollo Emocional y Convivencia, de Ecología y de Formación de Valores, los cuales son el resultado del trabajo oolectivo de terapeutas ocupacionales, fonoaudiólogos, maestros, padres y niños del Jardín Infantil Por un Mañana, ubicado en Bogotá, Colombia. Utiliza en forma holística los marcos de referencia de la ocupación humana, comportamiento ocupacional, ecología, adaptación ocupacional, psicosocial y de pedagogía participativa. Con esta propuesta se ha influido de manera definitiva en las actitudes personales y comunitarias, tanto de los niños como de los adultos que han participado de ellos. Además cuenta con un inmenso potencial de futuro ya que es absolutamente posible masificarlos a lo largo y ancho del país.

Poucas dimensões da vida humana são mais profundamente conectadas com a sobrevivência básica e, ao mesmo tempo, com elementos social e simbolicamente construídos, do que a alimentação. Este trabalho apresenta e analisa os dados sobre os processos de escolhas alimentares entre os habitantes da Ilha de Ituqui, Baixo Amazonas, Pará. A dieta na Ilha de Ituqui é dominada pela clássica combinação amazônica: farinha e peixe. É observável o esforço de diversificação alimentar e ao mesmo tempo a busca de contemporização com as continuidades do dia-a-dia e construções sociais de classe que orientam os processos de escolha e de consumo de alimentos cotidiano. Mesmo assim, não existe uma correlação positiva entre os alimentos de grande status social e aqueles que formam a base do consumo. Somado a isso, grande parte das representações alimentares parece apresentar um caráter -- que não é necessariamente discursivo -- bastante flexível e facilmente instrumentalizado nas mediações de contradições entre diferentes domínios sócio-políticos, os quais incluem tanto aspectos da micropolítica doméstica de casas e comunidades, quanto contextos mais abrangentes das economias políticas regional/nacional e transnacional. Assim, forças potenciais de mudança na lógica interna das estruturas habituais e dos sistemas socioculturais locais são acomodadas e negociadas. Concluindo, a forma como elaboramos e decodificamos nossa experiência física, bem como as nossas necessidades biológicas, cria uma relação dialética com nossos desejos sociais e estruturas habituais que só poderá ser resolvida (e compreendida!) quando as condições contextuais no momento da ação forem contempladas.

En México, la caprinocultura es una actividad importante dado que genera ingreso y alimento para familias ubicadas en zonas áridas con pocas alternativas. El objetivo fue determinar la viabilidad económica y financiera de la ganadería caprina extensiva e identificar los factores de permanencia de la actividad, en San Luis Potosí. Para recabar la información se utilizó la técnica de paneles de productores. La caprinocultura es rentable en el corto y mediano plazo debido al uso de mano de obra familiar y al bajo costo de alimentación en agostadero, no obstante, la permanencia en el largo plazo es incierta ya que el costo de los factores de producción no es cubierto.

De acuerdo con el Centro Internacional de Casos del TEC de Monterrey (2014) , el método de casos es un modo de enseñanza en el que los alumnos construyen su aprendizaje a partir del análisis y discusión de experiencias y situaciones de la vida real, siendo así un caso la descripción de una situación por la que atraviesa una organización o individuo. Desde esta perspectiva, el método del caso tiene un objetivo didáctico para fortalecer las competencias directivas, gerenciales y de emprendimiento de los estudiantes. Ante la necesidad de educar líderes en el campo de los negocios, algunas universidades han utilizado el método del caso para favorecer el proceso de aprendizaje de las principales competencias profesionales. En algunas, el caso de estudio constituye uno de los recursos más usados, por su poder para describir situaciones reales de negocios que los estudiantes deben enfrentar. En el proceso, los estudiantes aprenden tanto los contenidos teóricos de los cursos, como de la experiencia de ponerlos en práctica durante el análisis de un caso (González, 2013). El caso de enseñanza “Los Trigos Limpios”, tiene por aprendizaje esperado: “Implementar actividades de capacitación, aportando de manera responsable, colaborativa y comprometida al logro de objetivos comunes, según los requerimientos de los trabajadores de la empresa”. José Rojo con su socio y amigo, hace diez años formaron la panadería “Los Trigos Limpios”, fueron incrementando poco a poco tanto productos como recursos humanos a su emblemática panadería. El socio de José, después de un viaje al extranjero y la evidente demanda por modernizar los procesos, incorporar productos saludables, tiene la inquietud de capacitar a sus colaboradores. “Una panadería hoy debe contar con productos con insumos orgánicos, saludables y en la línea del cuidado del medioambiente, usando maquinarias de alta tecnología”, fue el relato que ambos socios finalmente comprometieron en esta nueva etapa donde los colaboradores serán capacitados, el financiamiento mediante un crédito de consumo es la alternativa más viable y también más rápida; no obstante, el beneficio fiscal de usar una franquicia tributaria es también interesante. Ambos socios defienden sus posturas frente a la decisión urgente de “Los Trigos Limpios”.

Los cambios producidos por actividades humanas sobre los ecosistemas acuáticos reducen y reconfiguran los hábitats disponibles. Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la selección de hábitat de la nutria neotropical (Lontra longicaudis), en zonas con influencia de la represa hidroeléctrica del río Peñas Blancas y algunos de sus tributarios, con el fin de recomendar acciones para la conservación de la nutria. Se muestreó el río Peñas Blancas y tres de sus tributarios en busca de indicios de la nutria y la medición de siete variables ambientales con el fin determinar la probabilidad de ocurrencia y detectabilidad. Además, se determinó el uso de presas por parte de la nutria neotropical. Las variables ambientales mostraron que el ancho del río y la proporción de bosque fueron las variables más influyentes en la ocurrencia de la especie. El caudal de compensación del río Peñas Blancas mostró la probabilidad de ocurrencia más alta. En cuanto a la dieta de la nutria, los peces fueron la categoría de presa más frecuente en los últimos años. Los datos obtenidos indican la influencia de condiciones físicas del río sobre la ocurrencia de la nutria y la importancia de los peces como componente alimenticio.

Este artículo invita, a mirar al género y la interculturalidad en la complejidad de sus interacciones que ocurren en unos contextos eco ambiental en el que las relaciones de poder de unos colectivos sobre otros -de hombres sobre mujeres o blancos sobre indígenas y afrodescendientes- con la biodiversidad implican, a su vez, interrelaciones con graves consecuencias en términos de equidad. El género y la interculturalidad tienen un desarrollo conceptual de mucha data; no obstante, su evolución, más bien, ha sido en paralelo con poca articulación entre los dos, con abordajes fragmentados y parciales. Las personas por su género y la pertenencia a una etnia han sido objeto de discriminación, inequidad y exclusión y muchas veces separadas de sus medios de vida. En tal sentido, el propósito de este estudio es abrir un espacio de diálogo y encuentro desde un enfoque interdisciplinar en aras de entender cómo se entrecruzan, se dinamizan y se potencian en el uso, acceso y participación de los beneficios de la biodiversidad las poblaciones que habitan estos territorios. La generación de estos nuevos puentes pone el acento en una ecología de saberes, en la que el estado, la academia y las comunidades locales le apuesten a un manejo sustentable de la biodiversidad. La metodología es de carácter cualitativa, por cuanto se hace la confrontación permanente, en un proceso de diálogo intercultural que busca un cambio que armonice la convivencia entre los grupos comunitarios y la naturaleza.

Fusarium verticillioides (Sacc.) Nirenberg (Fv) causes rots in maize around the world and produces mycotoxins that contaminate grains, making this species a significant health concern for both animals and humans. One of the best approaches to address rots is to identify highly tolerant or resistant genotypes that can be used for genetic improvement. The aim of the study was to evaluate dose-response assays to tolerance or resistance for Fv rots throughout the maize life cycle. These tests assessed the effects of Fv during post-germination development and the seedling (V2) stage by seed infection, the plantlet (V4) stage by substrate infection, and in the reproductive phase in maize stalks (R2 stage) and ears (R6 stage) by R1 stage inoculation. In all assays, the doses were effective at distinguishing contrasting phenotypes. Severity, root fresh weight, and aerial length were the most informative parameters at the V2 and V4 stages. Evaluation of the stalk necrosis area between and within the internodes of susceptible genotypes revealed significant differences among doses, and a positive correlation between necrosis and conidia concentration was observed in internodes. Injecting eight million conidia in the ear was sufficient for selecting different phenotypes. A total of 85% of the genotypes conserved their same capacity to respond to Fv infection throughout the maize life cycle, so that screening at the early vegetative stage (e.g., V2) could be useful for distinguishing contrasting phenotypes in the reproductive stage. Implementing these screening assays in a maize breeding program could be valuable for classifying the degrees of resilience of maize germplasms to Fv rots. The red sea urchin Loxechinus albus, an economically important species oceurring along the Chilean littoral benthic systems, has been heavily exploited by artisanal fisheries in recent decades. However, basic knowledge of its trophic biology is still scarce. Studies of this kind are critical to the successful development of farming techniques as an alternative to the harvest of natural populations. The aims of this study were to quantify the composition of L. albus' natural diet, to determine the assimilation efficieney of the most important dietary components, and to experimentally examine the species' trophic selectivity. Adult and juvenile specimens were sampled in spring 1993 and summer, fall and winter 1994 from the shallow subtidal zone of Iquique, northern Chile. Neither juveniles ñor adults showed significant seasonal differences in dietary composition. The main Ítems in the diet were the green alga Ulva sp. for juveniles and the kelp Lessonia sp. for adults. In adults, assimilation efficieney (as percentage of the total organic matter ingested) was not significantly different among individuals that consumed Lessonia sp. (48.7 %), Ulva sp. (44.6 %) and Macrocystis (38.1 %), whereas in juveniles assimilation efficieney was significantly higher for individuals fed on the chlorophyte Ulva sp. (55.4 %), followed by Lessonia sp. (35.0 %) and Macrocystis (25.5 %). These results suggest that L. albus undergoes an ontogenetic shift in the diet, consisting of a differential foraging strategy between juveniles and adults.El erizo Loxechinus albus (Molina, 1782) es un recurso de gran importancia económica en los sistemas bentónicos costeros, y que se encuentra bajo una fuerte presión de explotación. Sin embargo, los antecedentes sobre diversos aspectos básicos de su biología trófica son aún escasos. Estudios de esta naturaleza son importantes en razón a que constituyen la base para el desarrollo de técnicas de cultivo exitosas, alternativa a la explotación de poblaciones naturales. Los objetivos del presente trabajo fueron: determinar cuantitativamente la composición dietaria de L. albus, el grado de selectividad trófica, y las tasas de asimilación de los componentes de su dieta. Especímenes adultos y juveniles fueron muestreados en la primavera de 1993 y el verano, otoño e invierno de 1994 en la zona submareal de Iquique, norte de Chile. No se detectaron diferencias en la composición de la dieta de adultos y juveniles entre las estaciones muestreadas. El principal ítem alimentario de los juveniles y adultos fueron el alga verde Ulva sp. y el alga parda Lessonia sp., respectivamente. En experimentos de selección trófica se observó que los juveniles y adultos prefieren el ítem que es más abundante en su dieta natural. Estos resultados muestran un cambio ontogenético en la dieta de esta especie, sugiriéndose una estrategia de forrajeo diferencial entre juveniles y adultos.
