Partiendo de una imagen Landsat ETM+de 2001 y usando información de grandes grupos morfofuncionales y de cobertura de T. testudinum adquiridas en 525 estaciones de muestreo, se obtienen las semillas para la clasificación supervisada de los hábitats bénticos (8 clases). Con el fin de cuantificar los cambios ocasionados por dos huracanes, se usaron dos imágenes, una de 1988 (Gilberto) y 1995 (Roxanne) y tres más (2003, 2005 y 2007) para monitoreo sin efectos meteorológicos mayores; a estos 6 mapas categóricos se les aplicó un análisis de Ecología del Paisaje usando 8 índices que describen las características espaciales, de estructura, función, cambio de los elementos (matriz-mancha-corredor), efectos sobre el ecosistema, conectividad, bordes, forma del parche y fragmentación del hábitat. Los modelos indican que T. testudinum puede clasificarse como un continuo (matriz), pues los fragmentos no se observan de forma intermitente, sino como una progresión de zonas mínimas a máximas en referencia a su cobertura (corredores ecológicos). No poseen una forma regular, indicando que los impactos son recientes y pueden ser debidos a efectos directos (huracanes de alta intensidad) e indirectos (aporte de sedimentos). Los fragmentos de tipo 'suelos desnudos' presentan una distribución discontinua, considerándose sitios que han permanecido estables en una larga escala de tiempo; las zonas con coberturas más densas ('camas', 'praderas medias' y 'praderas') presentan baja fragmentación y alta conexión de sus fragmentos. Las características de poseer un perímetro irregular y crecimiento de formal radial, sugieren que el impacto de los meteoros no tiene efecto en la capacidad de resiliencia de T. testudinum en este ecosistema, indicando el buen estado de la calidad ambiental de la bahía para su crecimiento. La situación es crítica por la cantidad de minifundistas que producen cultivos de papa, en altas pendientes y con tecnologías inapropiadas. La Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia ha generado información valiosa sobre efectos ambientales y económicos de sistemas de labranza de conservación (LC) en este cultivo, mediante investigaciones que evalúan integralmente cambios en condiciones físicas del suelo, desarrollo y rendimiento del cultivo y comportamiento financiero. Se reportan dos experimentos en los cuales se compararon sistemas de labranza convencional basados en arados de discos y rotatorio, frente a sistemas de LC para la ladera y el altiplano, incluyendo tracción mecánica y animal. Los resultados muestran que en siembra directa (SD) la estabilidad estructural del suelo se mantuvo constante, el contenido promedio de humedad aumentó entre 2% y 5% frente a los demás tratamientos de labranza y la compactación del suelo (relativamente alta, pero con baja variabilidad) no evidenció efectos nocivos para el cultivo. SD redujo costos de mecanización, e incrementó los rendimientos entre 3% y 34% y la rentabilidad entre 2% y 14% frente al sistema convencional (comúnmente usado por el productor). Esto confirma que los sistemas de LC, adaptados a las diferentes condiciones agroecológicas, son opciones técnicamente viables que posibilitan la sostenibilidad ambiental y económica de la producción agrícola en la región. Las muestras se obtuvieron entre 18°25'S y 24°40'S durante el crucero de evaluación hidroacústica del reclutamiento de E. ringens, realizado entre el 1 y 20 de diciembre de 2010. El análisis comprendió la determinación de la dieta contenida en un total de 294 estómagos, provenientes de 18 estaciones de muestreo y distribuidos en tres clases de longitud (pre-reclutas, reclutas y adultos). La dieta se describió mediante los métodos numéricos de frecuencia de ocurrencia e índice de importancia relativa, además de la similitud dietaria por longitud y latitud, y especialización trófica. E. ringens registró un amplio espectro trófico, tanto de presas fitoplanctónicas como zooplanctónicas, con una alta predominancia de fitoplancton por sobre zooplancton en 2,5 órdenes de magnitud, por rango de longitud y latitud. Los componentes de mayor importancia relativa en la dieta fueron las diatomeas de los géneros Rhizosolenia y Chaetoceros, y Copepoda dentro del zooplancton. El análisis de la similitud trófica intraespecífica mostró una alta sobreposición entre los grupos de longitud, conformando una 'unidad trófica'. Mientras que el análisis latitudinal reveló una alta sobreposición trófica con tendencia a formar dos 'unidades tróficas', pero sin seguir un patrón definido. Los resultados, confirman el carácter de depredador generalista y oportunista de E. ringens en la zona norte de Chile durante el periodo analizado. This article shows the results of a study about citrus fruit and agribusiness related to citrus fruit in Entre Rios province, the main sweet citrus fruit producer in Argentina . Such study deals with food quality and health features of export sweet citrus fruit which are sent to other counter-seasonal markets. We use qualitative information gathered in the years 2005 and 2006 by means of direct survey to packaging export companies, citrus producers, entreproneurs, harvest workers and packaging workers. We add statistic information in this study, as well.A comienzos de 1990 el mercado mundial incrementa la demanda de productos frutihortícolas en estado fresco, destinada a satisfacer a consumidores que requieren productos estandarizados y envíos 'just in time'. Simultáneamente, aparecen numerosas normas de calidad y seguridad alimentaria, públicas y privadas, tendientes a la obtención de productos sanos e inocuos, a la vez que se interesan por la protección de los trabajadores, prohibición del trabajo infantil y cuidado del medio ambiente. Las estimaciones, en cuanto a incidencia y mortalidad, no son nada halagüeñas, en especial para los países subdesarrollados. Durante las últimas décadas se han realizado importantes contribuciones a la comprensión de la carcinogénesis humana, sobre todo desde la perspectiva ecológica y evolutiva. Los objetivos del presente trabajo se centran en: destacar las principales hipótesis que desde dicha perspectiva, tratan de explicar la etiología de los tumores malignos, así como adecuar las que, a la luz de los hallazgos recientes o cotejadas con datos empíricos, parecen más factibles. La hipótesis tradicionalmente aceptada se basa en la 'carcinogénesis en múltiples etapas' y explica de manera satisfactoria algunos aspectos del proceso; aunque conlleva a falacias de lógica, como la conclusión que dos tercios de los cánceres humanos obedecen a la 'mala suerte'. Por su parte, la hipótesis de la 'oncogénesis adaptativa' parece adecuarse de manera más realística a las complejas relaciones ecológicas que se establecen entre las células malignas, las células normales y el microambiente celular; capaces de originar fenómenos tan 'inadmisibles', como la cooperación de células normales en la progresión tumoral o la adopción por parte de las células malignas de estrategias evolutivamente estables. De hecho, la oncogénesis adaptativa incluso puede ser extendida al nivel del 'macroambiente' poblacional y social. En un recorrido somero y no lineal, el texto intenta mostrar algunas complejas redes que se tejen entre los diversos componentes de lo que Toulmin denomina 'ecología intelectual'; así como los nichos de la racionalidad y la representación, en las dinámicas de la misma. Esta aproximación al devenir del concepto, permite identificar preguntas y problemas que, con diferentes significados, énfasis y matices, aún están vigentes; modelos explicativos con los que se ha pretendido dar respuesta a dichas cuestiones y algunas formas de validación que permiten la aceptación contextual de los mismos. Finalmente, proponemos posibles implicaciones de estos análisis para la enseñanza.Taking into account Stephen Toulmin´s approaches, we will look at some aspects in the historical development of Chemistry connected to the concept of substance. In a superficial and non-linear manner, the text tries to show some complex networks that developed between the diverse components named by Toulmin as 'intellectual ecology', such as the niches of rationality and the representations among them. This aproximation to the outcoming allows to identify the questions and the problems which with different meanings, emphasis and shades are still current; explanatory models which have pretended giving an answer to those questions and some forms of validity which permit the contextual acceptance of them. Finally, we propose possible implications of these analysis to teaching. Jorge Enrique Description An account of the resource In Cucaita, onion production represents the basis of the economy and is concentrated in the valley but as yield declines due to deterioration of the soil, cultivation is shifting to the slopes, where unsustainability is more prominent. The aim of this study was to verify the potential of three alternatives for sustainable farming, using a split plot design on two farms. The alternatives were: 1) bocashi chicken manure, super broth four, fertilizer (BCmSB4F), 2) bocashi cow manure, rhizosphere broth, super broth four, fertilizer (BCmRBSB4F), 3) green manure, rhizosphere broth, super broth four, fertilizer (Gm- RBSB4F) and 4) regional control (RC). This study determined disease incidence, plant height, stem and bulb diameter, healthy and diseased bulb weight and yield. The results indicated that regardless of the alternative, the agro-ecological conditions of the farm are critical to plant health and consequently to crop production. In El Arenal, where disease incidence was lower, the highest values for healthy bulb weight, bulb diameter and yield were revealed. The alternatives only differed in disease incidence at 30 and 45 days after transplant, with the lowest percentages corresponding to the green manure alternative. For revenue, the three alternatives were favorable, especially the BCmRBSB4F alternative which exceeded the RC. The results show that the alternatives GmRBSB4F and BCmRBSB4F have the most potential and are the most viable for sustainable onion production in Cucaita, Boyaca.
