                <text>Abstract As a once in a 100 years emergency, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in repercussions for the economy, the polity, and the social. Also, the ongoing pandemic is as much a teaching moment as it to reflect on the lack of critical citizenship education. The fault lines of the health system have become visible in terms of infection and death rates; the fault lines of the educational system are now apparent in the behavior of the citizens who are flouting the public health guidelines and, in certain cases, actively opposing these guidelines. The main objective of this commentary is to initiate a dialogue on the social contract between the state and the subjects and to see how education and educators can respond to the challenge of the new normal. It is contended that education under the new normal cannot afford to keep educating for unbridled productivity education under the new normal. It must have welfare, human connections, ethical relationships, environmental stewardship, and social justice front and center.</text>

                <text>The novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been a major public health emergency worldwide with over 118.27-million confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2.62-million deaths recorded, as of March 12, 2021. Although this disease primarily targets lungs, damages in other organs, such as heart, kidney, liver, and testis, may occur. Testis is the cornerstone of male reproduction, while reproductive health is the most valuable resource for continuity of the human race. Given the unique nature of SARS-CoV-2, the mechanisms of its impact on the testes have yet to be fully explored. Notably, coronaviruses have been found to invade target cells through the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor, which can be found in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, urinary tract, and reproductive organs, such as testes. Coronavirus studies have suggested that testes might be a potential target for SARS-CoV-2 infection. The first etiopathogenic concept proposed by current hypotheses indicates that the virus can invade testes through the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor. Next, the activated inflammatory response in the testes, disease-associated fever, and COVID-19 medications might be implicated in testicular alterations. Although evidence regarding the presence of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA in semen remains controversial, this emphasizes the need for researchers to pay closer attention to sexually transmitted diseases and male fertility after recovering from COVID-19. In this review the latest updates regarding COVID-19-associated testicular dysfunction are summarized and possible pathogenic mechanisms are discussed.</text>

                <text>Abstract Background Mental health sufferings due to the COVID-19 pandemic were reported in many countries worldwide. However, there is a lack of a validated Arabic tool to measure stress related to this pandemic in the Arab countries. This study aims to translate into Arabic and measure the psychometric characteristics of the previously developed English COVID Stress Scales (CSS). Using a forward-backward translation, the CSS was translated into Arabic and 22 jurors assessed its content validity. An online-based survey was carried out among 1080 university students (Egyptian and Saudi) to assess internal consistency and validity of the Arabic version (CSS-Arabic) using Cronbach’s α and factor analysis. Results The content validity indices of the scale were 0.943 and 0.932 for both relevance and clarity. The internal consistency of the total CSS-Arabic was satisfactory (with α = 0.94) within the acceptable range for different subscales. Confirmatory factor analysis reveals 5-factor model with 36 retained items similar to the original English CSS. Conclusions CSS-Arabic is a reliable and valid self-reporting tool for screening of stress due to COVID-19 among the university students. Further work should be done by healthcare providers to assess the magnitude of the stress during the COVID-19 pandemic.</text>

                <text>Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (COVID 19) has plagued the world with about 7,8 million confirmed cases and over 430,000 deaths as of June 13th, 2020. The knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) people hold towards this new disease could play a major role in the way they accept measures put in place to curb its spread and their willingness to seek and adhere to care. We sought to understand if: a) demographic variables of Cameroonian residents could influence KAP and symptomatology, and b) KAP could influence the risk of having COVID19.A cross-sectional KAP/symptomatology online survey was conducted between April 20 to May 20. All analyses were performed using SPSS version 23. Of all respondents (1006), 53.1% were female, 26.6% were students, 26.9% interacted face to face and 62.8% were residents in Yaoundé with a median age of 33. The overall high score was 84.19% for knowledge, 69% for attitude, and 60.8% for practice towards COVID 19. Age &gt; 20 years was associated with a high knowledge of COVID 19. Women had lower practice scores compared to men (OR = 0.72; 95%CI 0.56-0.92). 41 respondents had ≥3 symptoms and only 9 (22.95%) of them had called 1510 (emergency number). There was no significant difference between KAP and symptomatology. The presence of ≥ 3 symptoms in 4% of respondents (with 56% of them having co-morbidities) supports the current trend in the number of confirmed cases (8681) in Cameroon. The continuous increase in the number of cases and the overall good KAP warrants further investigation to assess the effectiveness of the measures put in place to curb the spread of the disease. Sensitization is paramount to preclude negative health-seeking behaviors and encourage positive preventive and therapeutic practices, for fear of an increase in mortality.</text>

                <text>RESUMO: Agentes de controle biológico associados com matéria orgânica é uma estratégia que pode potencializar o controle dos nematoides-das-galhas. Objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar o efeito de materiais orgânicos e rizobactérias sobre Meloidogyne javanica em tomateiro. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 4x2+1, sendo quatro materiais orgânicos (turfa, biofertilizante, esterco bovino e composto orgânico de casca de pequi), dois isolados de rizobactérias (Bacillus pumilus -1 e B. pumilus - 76) e adubação mineral (tratamento adicional), com oito repetições. Mudas de tomateiro foram transplantadas para vasos contendo solo arenoso, ao qual incorporaram-se os diferentes materiais orgânicos. As suspensões das rizobactérias (OD 540=0,5) foram aplicadas ao solo via rega. O solo de cada vaso foi infestado com aproximadamente 3000 ovos e eventuais juvenis de segundo estádio de M. javanica. Todos os materiais orgânicos associados às rizobactérias reduziram o número de galhas e massas de ovos de M. javanica em comparação à adubação mineral. Já o número de juvenis (J2) foi menor nas combinações pequi + B. pumilus-1 e B. pumilus-76 e turfa + B. pumilus-1. O número de ovos e o fator de reprodução foram influenciados pela interação entre as rizobactérias e os compostos. Para o composto de pequi, B. pumilus-1 promoveu menor número de ovos por grama de raiz, enquanto para turfa, B. pumilus-76 foi a mais eficiente. Para o fator de reprodução, apenas o esterco foi influenciado pela bactéria, sendo que B. pumilus-1 foi a que proporcionou menor capacidade reprodutiva do nematoide.</text>

                <text>Los diferentes problemas que ocurren en el medio educativo han sido abordados desde diversos enfoques de análisis. Esta diversidad disciplinaria se deriva de la complejidad de situaciones estudiadas y es resultado de la dificultad en la definición de 'lo educativo' como un campo metodológico y teórico (Bertely, 2004). Una de estas situaciones complejas es la Educación Ambiental (EA), que atañe a esta investigación. El objetivo de este artículo es conocer los alcances y las limitaciones de la práctica de la EA para promover y construir una conciencia ambiental entre alumnos del Bachillerato, así como, estimular iniciativas proambientales. La aproximación metodológica adoptada es la Etnografía Institucional (EI) aplicada a la Educación Ambiental, la cual permitirá por un lado retratar la realidad lo más fidedigna posible, y por otro lado, adoptar este retrato a otras situaciones que ocurren en contextos institucionales similares. Entre los resultados encontramos que: (a) los docentes no tienen el perfil deseable para enseñar el curso de Ecología y ellos no tienen los conocimientos ambientales básicos; (b) el programa de estudios en la materia de Ecología ha sido creado de manera superficial y muy general; (c) el curso de Ecología es nominal y (d) la materia de Ecología es impartida en periodos de tiempo cortos y regida por una modalidad preferentemente teórica que práctica. En general, las limitaciones formativas de los docentes y las debilidades de los contenidos programáticos de la materia restringen abordar con interés y dimensionar la problemática ambiental. En consecuencia, se genera en el alumnado una formación sin actitudes y valores ambientales. El profesorado fracasa en su intención de lograr generar estudiantes con conciencia ambiental, propósito central de la materia de Ecología.</text>

                <text>La investigación llevó por propósito estructurar un modelo para orientar a la planificación territorial, con base en la sostenibilidad, el quehacer en los espacios mineros, la gestión del riesgo de desastres en unión directa con la adaptación al cambio climático y la generación de resiliencia socio-ambiental en América Latina y el Caribe. Este fin se cimienta en los mandatos de todos los Objetivos para el Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), Agenda 2030 (Naciones Unidas, 2019), las premisas de la Oficina de las Naciones Unidas para la Reducción del Riesgo de Desastres (UNISDR, 2017), las guías del Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Climático (IPCC, 2018) y, las recomendaciones del Consejo Internacional de Minería y Metales (ICMM, 2019). La propuesta presenta un diseño de campo no-experimental de corte transversal ajustado a un estudio de tipo proyectivo. Se aplicó un muestreo aleatorio simple con resultado de 67 ONG (N = 80). El diagnóstico fue derivado a través de una escala con consistencia interna (α = 0,95; p &lt; 0,05). El Modelo Orientativo de la Planificación Territorial Sostenible de la Minería fue ensamblado siguiendo las asociaciones significativas entre sus componentes, los impactos socio-ambientales de la minería (W = 0,936; γ = -0,867; p &lt; 0,01), y con respecto a la gestión de riesgo de desastres (d = 0,947; γ = 1,000; p &lt; 0,01). El estudio concluyó que el Modelo mitiga directamente las causas que gestan a los impactos socio-ambientales negativos y fomenta, mediante sus ejes transversales, la reducción de riesgos en los espacios mineros.</text>

                <text>Um experimento foi conduzido no período de dezembro/2005 a julho/2006, no município de Remígio, PB, com o objetivo de se avaliar a ação do biofertilizante supermagro aplicado ao solo após diluição em água, na proporção de 1:4, na ausência e presença de potássio, sobre a produção e nutrição mineral do maracujazeiro-amarelo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg). O delineamento estatístico foi blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial (5 x 2), sendo cinco doses de biofertilizante (0, 1, 2, 3 e 4 L planta-1 da mistura), na ausência e presença de potássio (K2O). O supermagro foi aplicado 30 dias antes e a cada 90 dias após o plantio e o potássio aos 60 dias após o plantio e a cada 60 dias até a colheita. O solo da área experimental é um Cambissolo Húmico Aluminoférrico léptico. Semanalmente, os frutos foram contados e pesados, não só para avaliação da quantidade mas, também, para obtenção de sua produção por planta, massa média de frutos e produtividade; no início da frutificação as plantas estavam adequadamente supridas de N, K, S, B e Zn mas deficientes em P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe e Mn. A massa média de frutos foi superior nas plantas dos tratamentos com supermagro e potássio, porém a produtividade não foi influenciada pela interação supermagro versus potássio.An experiment was carried out during the period from December, 2005 to July, 2006, in municipality of Remígio, Paraíba, Brazil, in order to evaluate the effects of the biofertilizer 'supermagro' applied to soil in liquid form diluted in water in a ratio of 1:4, 30 days before and at intervals of 90 days after planting in absence and presence of potassium applied 60 days after planting and every 60 days subsequently until harvest on the production and mineral nutrition of yellow passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg.) The treatments were distributed in randomized blocks using the factorial design 5 x 2 referring to biofertilizer levels: 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 L plant-1 in absence and presence of potassium at a K2O level of 20 g plant-1. The soil of the experimental area is a Neossoil. The fruits were harvested daily for evaluation of fruit number per plant, mass of fruit, individual production per plant and productivity. The plants in the initial fructification phase were adequately provided with N, K, S, B, and Zn, but they were deficient in P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Mn. The mean mass of fruits was superior in plants of the treatments with biofertilizer and potassium, but the interaction biofertilizer 'supermagro' versus potassium did not influence plant productivity.</text>

                <text>Neste trabalho objetivou-se avaliar o rendimento do inhame, cultivar Da Costa, adubado com doses de esterco bovino e biofertilizante. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, em parcelas subdivididas, 6 x 2 + 1 em três repetições. Nas parcelas foram testadas seis doses de esterco bovino (0; 6; 12; 18; 24 e 30 t ha-1), combinadas fatorialmente com a presença e ausência de biofertilizante e, nas subparcelas, duas formas de aplicação do biofertilizante no solo e na folha e um tratamento adicional com adubação convencional (esterco bovino e NPK). A dose de 30 t ha-1 de esterco bovino e o biofertilizante aplicado no solo e na folha produziram túberas de inhame com peso médio ideal para o comércio. O esterco bovino na dose de 19,2 t ha-1 e na ausência do biofertilizante proporcionou produtividade máxima de 20,3 t ha-1 de túberas comerciais. Nas subparcelas em que o biofertilizante foi aplicado no solo e na folha, a dose de 30 t ha-1 de esterco bovino foi responsável, respectivamente, pelas produtividades máximas de 22,8 e 24 t ha-1 de túberas comerciais. A adubação orgânica e a convencional não causaram alterações significativas no peso médio de túberas; porém, a adubação convencional aumentou a produtividade de túberas comerciais.The objective of this study was to evaluate the yam yield, cultivar Da Costa, fertilized with bovine manure doses and biofertilizer. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in subdivided plots 6 x 2 + 1 with three repetitions. In plots six doses of cattle manure (0; 6; 12; 18; 24 and 30 t ha-1) were tested, factorially combined with the presence and absence of biofertilizer and in subplots, two forms of application of biofertilizer in the soil and by spray on the leaf and an additional treatment with conventional fertilization (animal manure and NPK). The doses of 30 t ha-1 of bovine manure and the biofertilizer which was applied in the soil and leaf produced tubers with ideal average weight for the commercialization. The bovine manure in doses of 19.2 t ha-1 and in the absence of biofertilizer provided maximum productivity of 20.3 t ha-1 of commercial tubers. Subplots in which the biofertilizer was applied to the soil and leaf, the dose of 30 t ha-1 of cattle manure was responsible, respectively, for maximum yields of 22.8 and 24 t ha-1 of commercial tubers. The organic and conventional fertilizations did not cause any significant change in the mean tuber weight, but the conventional fertilization increased the productivity of commercial tuber.</text>

                <text>Com o objetivo de avaliar o rendimento do pimentão adubado com esterco bovino na presença e ausência do biofertilizante, conduziu-se um experimento na UFPB, Areia, PB, no período de janeiro a junho de 2004. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos casualizados, com três repetições em parcelas subdivididas. Nas parcelas se avaliaram seis doses de esterco bovino (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 e 50 t ha-1) e, nas subparcelas, os efeitos das aplicações do biofertilizante no solo e via foliar e sua ausência, além de um tratamento adicional com adubação mineral e orgânica. A parcela compunha de 32 e a sub-parcela de 16 plantas, espaçadas 1,00 x 0,50 m. Na ausência de biofertilizante a dose estimada de 28 t ha-l de esterco bovino foi responsável pela produção máxima de frutos por planta (389 g) e produtividade máxima de frutos comerciais (7,8 t ha-l), enquanto na sua presença aplicado via foliar, as doses de 14,5 e 14,0 t ha-l de esterco bovino, respectivamente, proporcionaram produção máxima de frutos por planta de 485 g e produtividade máxima de frutos comerciais de 9,6 t ha-l. Na presença de biofertilizante aplicado no solo, obteve-se produção média de 410, 6 g de frutos por planta e produtividade de 8,3 t ha-l de frutos comerciais, em função das doses de esterco bovino. A combinação esterco bovino e biofertilizante aplicada via foliar, foi a melhor forma de fertilização orgânica no pimentão, com incrementos de 1,8 e 1,3 t ha-l a mais na produtividade de frutos, em relação apenas ao emprego de esterco bovino.With the objective of evaluating bell pepper fertilized with cattle manure with and without biofertilizer, an experiment was carried out from January to June 2004, in Quarts Psamment at UFPB, Areia, PB, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized block, with three replications in sub-divided plots. The plot was constituted by 32 and the sub-plot by 16 plants, spaced at 1.00 x 0.50 m. In the plots, six levels of cattle manure (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 t ha-1) were appraised, while in the sub-plots the forms of application of the biofertilizer (with and without application of biofertilizer in the soil and spraying on the leaves) and an additional treatment with mineral and organic fertilizer. In the absence of biofertilizer, 28 t ha-l estimated level of cattle manure was responsible for maximum yield of fruits per plant (389 g) and for commercial fruits (7.8 t ha-l), while biofertilizer used in spray application, the levels of 14.5 and 14.0 t ha-l of cattle manure, respectively, promoted maximum production of fruits per plant of 485 g and maximum productivity of commercial fruits of 9.6 t ha-1. The biofertilizer presence into the soil, promoted mean production of 410 g of fruits per plant and productivity of 8.3 t ha-1 of commercial fruits, in function of cattle manure. The combination cattle manure and biofertilizer in the leaves was the best organic fertilization form in the bell pepper, with additional of 1.8 and 1.3 t ha-1 in the productivity of commercial fruits, comparing with those obtained with cattle manure and biofetilizer used in the soil, respectively. There is no significance difference among organic treatments and conventional fertilization in the bell pepper productivity.</text>
