                <text>El uso de fertilizantes minerales en cultivos de Cymbopogon martini Roxb. (Palmarosa) con el fin de incrementar la biomasa y el rendimiento de aceite esencial (AE) es una práctica cada vez más frecuente. Este aceite es rico en geraniol y acetato de geranilo, moléculas con alto valor en las industrias de productos cosméticos y farmacéutica. Las plantas fueron obtenidas del Centro Nacional de Investigación Agroindustrial de Plantas Aromaticas y Medicinales de la Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) (Cenivam) (07° 08' 31.68'N, 73° 07' 06.14O; 988 m.s.n.m.), Santander, Colombia. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la productividad de biomasa y analizar la calidad y el rendimiento de los aceites esenciales (AE) de este cultivo con la aplicación de tres tipos de fertilizantes químico: Nutrimon® 14-14-14, NPK granulado (10% N, 14% P2O5 , 14% K2O), en dosis de 2, 4 y 6 g/planta, más un tratamiento con 400 g de un fertilizante orgánico,. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar, con trece tratamientos y tres cosechas de tres plantas cada una como repeticiones. Los datos fueron sometidos a análisis de variancia con comparación de las medias por la prueba de Tukey a 5% de probabilidad. No se observaron correlaciones entre biomasa y rendimiento del AE en función del tipo del fertilizante aplicado, lo que sugirió que los tratamientos que incrementaron la producción de biomasa no necesariamente representaron mayor rendimiento del AE y viceversa. Se encontró que los fertilizantes orgánicos son ideales para este cultivo, ya que favorecieron rendimientos relativamente altos en aceite, con altos porcentajes de geraniol y acetato de geranilo.</text>

                <text>A tecnologia empregada na agricultura orgânica e no processamento pós-colheita vem desenvolvendo um padrão produtivo bastante distinto à agricultura 'moderna'. O desejo do consumidor de adquirir um alimento que não venha causar risco a sua saúde foi alterando o mercado, e o produto orgânico passa a ser preferido e mais valorizado por um segmento da população. Sem o uso de agroquímicos, a agricultura orgânica recupera conceitos tradicionais e se renova a partir da utilização de inovações tecnológicas intensivas em conhecimento. A proposta deste trabalho é estudar os aspectos da inovação no processamento pós-colheita de uma fazenda de produção orgânica, especificamente na embalagem e no processamento mínimo, impulsionada pela exigência de certificação, em um estudo de caso na região do Centro-Oeste brasileiro. O artigo aborda as características históricas da inovação na agricultura, as dificuldades de investimento em tecnologias na agricultura orgânica e a questão da certificação. Este estudo de caso foi realizado a partir de uma série de entrevistas. Os resultados fazem perceber que as modificações nas rotinas internas da empresa e a adoção de uma série de normas técnicas viabilizaram o processo de inovação, possibilitando a adequação da fazenda para obter a certificação exigida para atender ao mercado.The technology used in organic farming and post-harvest processing is contributing to the development of production standards that are quite different from those of modern agriculture. The desire of consumers to acquire food that does not endanger their health is changing the market; and organic products are coming to be preferred and valued by a growing segment of the population. In not using chemical products, organic farming returns to and renews traditional farming concepts by means of knowledge-intensive technological innovations. The objective of the case study reported here was to investigate innovations in the post-harvest processing of organic produce on a farm in the Central-Western region of Brazil. The innovation process was driven by certification requirements, specifically those dealing with minimal processing and packaging. The article addresses the historic characteristics of innovation in agriculture, the difficulties of investment in technologies in organic farming and the competitiveness of the present market. The study was conducted through a series of interviews. Results demonstrate that the modifications in internal routines and the adoption of technical standards induced by the certification process were responsible for the innovations, permitting the production of high-standard organic produce for the market.</text>

                <text>Os biofertilizantes podem melhorar a sanidade das plantas e incrementar a produtividade das culturas, com baixo custo. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o estado nutricional e características relacionadas à produtividade do fruto de pimenteira em resposta à aplicação de biofertilizantes líquidos na variedade de pimenta Dedo de Moça (Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum L.). O trabalho foi realizado em campo, no município de Teresina, Piauí, Brasil, no período de dezembro de 2010 a setembro de 2011. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos inteiramente casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram os biofertilizantes 'supermagro', 'fermentado biológico' e 'P + K', com aplicações via foliar e no solo, adubação NPK, conforme recomendação para a cultura do pimentão, e a testemunha absoluta, sem adubação. A variedade de pimenta Dedo de Moça respondeu positivamente ao uso de biofertilizantes líquidos, com aplicação foliar e no solo. O biofertilizante fermentado biológico promoveu maior massa de fruto.</text>

Foram identificadas ao final do levantamento nove ordens na área de policultivo agroecológico de frutíferas: Hymenoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Orthoptera, Blattodea, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Odonata e Dermaptera e quatro na área com monocultivo agroecológico de banana: Hymenoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera e Orthoptera. O resultado obtido no presente trabalho indica que, mesmo sob o mesmo sistema de manejo, em áreas cultivadas com mais de uma espécie frutífera ocorre à presença de uma maior diversidade de insetos. Primary inventory of entomofauna in polyculture and monoculture fruit trees areas in municipality of Ipanguaçu, RNAbstract: This study aimed to evaluate the insect diversity in polyculture and monoculture agroecological of fruit trees in municipality of Ipanguaçu, Rio Grande do Norte. The survey was carried out at the experimental farm of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte, Campus Ipanguaçu, in period from June to August 2012, in two distinct areas (0.8 ha each): Area 1 (5°32'14.86'S e 36°52'19.81'W) - Agroecological orchard (polyculture with guava, acerola, graviola, lemon, mango and banana) and 2 (5°32'1.55'S 36°53'2.21'W) – Banana’s agroecological monoculture. At the end of the survey, nine orders were identified in area of fruit trees’s agroecological polyculture: Hymenoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Orthoptera, Blattodea, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Odonata e Dermaptera e quatro na área com monocultivo agroecológico de banana: Hymenoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera e Orthoptera. Pretende-se observar as transformações conceituais do termo nas ciências que alimentam, de forma hegemônica, o debate sobre meio ambiente e desenvolvimento. O foco está na tensão entre disciplinaridade e interdisciplinaridade no contexto de estabelecimento da relação entre artefato científico e propositividade política. Assim, foram analisados quinze dentre os vinte e cinco artigos mais citados no sítio web of science em cada ciência, sobre os temas 'sustainability' e 'sustainable', entre 1990 e 2009. A análise fundamentou-se na teoria da modernização reflexiva e nos estudos sociais da ciência. Como resultado geral, sugere-se a existência de uma 'interdisciplinaridade disciplinar' entre economia e ecologia, o que facilita suas conexões e operacionalidades, mas dificulta a inserção de elementos socioculturais no debate.El objetivo es ofrecer un análisis de producción científica sobre sustentabilidad en ecología y economía, entre Rio92 y Rio+20. El propósito es observar su transmutación conceptual en las ciencias que alimentan, hegemónicamente, el debate público sobre medio ambiente y desarrollo. El enfoque está en la tensión entre disciplinariedad e interdisciplinariedad en el contexto de establecimiento de la relación entre artefacto científico y propositividad política. Por lo tanto, se analizaron quince de los veinticinco artículos más citados en la página web 'web of science' tanto en ecología como en economía, sobre los temas 'sustainability' y 'sustainable' entre 1990 y 2009. El análisis fue fundamentado en la teoría de la modernización reflexiva y en los estudios sociales de la ciencia. Como resultado, se sugiere que existe una 'interdisciplinariedad disciplinar' entre economía y ecología, que facilita sus conexiones y operaciones, sin embargo, también dificulta la inserción de elemento socioculturales al debate.This work presents an analysis of the scientific production about sustainability in ecology and economy areas in the period between Rio92 and Rio+20. The focus is in the stress between disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity in the context of the establishment of the relation between scientific artifact and politic propositiveness. Thus, this study analyzed fifteen articles among the twenty five most quoted articles in the website 'web of Science' both in ecology and economy, regarding 'sustainability' and 'sustainable' topics between 1990 and 2009. The analysis was founded in the theory of reflective modernization and in social studies of science. Finally, this study suggests the existence of a 'disciplinary interdisciplinarity' between economy and ecology that facilitates its connections and operations; however it also hinders the insertion of socio-cultural elements to the debate.</text>

                <text>Buscando a sustentabilidade em uma pequena propriedade agrícola visou-se com o presente estudo, ao aproveitamento do efluente de biodigestor proveniente da fermentação anaeróbia de estrume bovino, no cultivo sem solo do meloeiro. O experimento foi conduzido em Jaboticabal, SP, Brasil, localizado na Latitude 21º 15- 22' S e Longitude 48º 18- 58' W. Cultivou-se o meloeiro (Cucumis melo L. cv. Bonus nº 2) em substrato, com semeadura realizada em outubro de 2003 e se utilizou delineamento experimental em blocos casualisados com 16 tratamentos e 5 repetições, em esquema fatorial 4 x 4 (4 substratos e 4 soluções nutritivas). Os 4 substratos se compunham de diferentes proporções da mistura entre a parte sólida do efluente de biodigestor e a areia grossa lavada; as 4 soluções nutritivas foram compostas pela parte líquida do efluente de biodigestor (biofertilizante) em substituição a adubos minerais hidrossolúveis. A adição do efluente à areia proporcionou crescimento vegetativo mais rápido, maior precocidade na colheita, frutos mais pesados e maior produtividade à cultura do meloeiro. Adubos minerais hidrossolúveis utilizados no cultivo de plantas em substrato podem ser parcialmente substituídos pelo biofertilizante estudado.Looking for the sustainability of a small farming enterprise, the present study focused the benefit of the biodigestor effluent resulting from the anaerobic fermentation of the bovine manure in a soilless melon plant experiment. The research was conducted in Jaboticabal, in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, at latitude of 21&amp;deg; 15- 22-- S and a longitude of 48&amp;deg; 18- 58-- W. The melon plant (Cucumis melo L. cv Bonus n&amp;deg; 2) was grown with substrate, seedling obtained in 10/2003. An experimental design was adapted in a randomized block with 16 treatments and 5 replications in a factorial 4 x 4 (4 substrates and 4 nutrient solutions). The 4 substrates were made up of different proportions in volume of the blend composition taking into consideration both the solid part of the biodigestor effluent and the washed raw sand. The 4 nutrient solutions were made up of the liquid part of the biodigestor effluent (biofertilizer) in substitution to the mineral water soluble fertilizers. The addition of the effluent in the sand led to a more rapid vegetative growth, a more precoceous crop with heavier fruits and a much better yield of melon crop. The mineral water soluble fertilizers used in the cultivation of plants in substrates can be partially replaced by the biofertilizer studied.</text>

                <text>Comparative animal physiology and related fields (named here 'ecological physiology') are entering a time of synthesis in the form of a quest for large scales patterns. However, these new approaches need to be supplied by great amounts of data, representative of existing animal forms. We tested whether this is the case by performing a quantitative survey in the most important media for ecological physiologists. We found that ecological physiologists have clear biases toward some taxonomic classes, which represent one third of existing animal phyla. Non-taxonomic characterization of animals (endothermy/ectothermy, aquatic/terrestrial), however, produced a more balanced picture. In addition, ecological physiologists appear to be mostly intraspecific biologists since the great majority of studies were performed in one species. Multispecific studies were the minority and comparable to two - species comparative studies. The later are still being published despite to have been strongly criticized in the past. Cross-tabulation analysis yielded results suggesting that natural populations, vertebrates and terrestrial animals are preferred over artificial populations, aquatic animals and invertebrates. Although we recognize the limitations of our survey, it has the value to indicate that historical biases need to be taken in consideration if more global approaches are being undertaking in this disciplineLa fisiología comparada y disciplinas relacionadas (definidas en este trabajo como 'ecología fisiológica') han entrado a un período de síntesis en la forma de búsqueda de patrones a gran escala. Sin embargo, dichos enfoques necesitan ser provistos de una gran cantidad de datos que sean representativos de las formas animales existentes. Evaluamos si este es el caso, efectuando una revisión cuantitativa en el medio más importante para los ecólogos fisiológicos. Encontramos que los ecólogos fisiológicos tienen claros sesgos hacia ciertas clases taxonómicas, las cuales representan un tercio de los phyla animales existentes. La caracterización no taxonómica de los animales (endotermia/ectotermia, acuático/terrestre), sin embargo, produjo un panorama más equilibrado. Además, los resultados sugieren que los ecólogos fisiológicos son eminentemente biólogos intraespecíficos pues la gran mayoría de los trabajos fueron estudios de una especie. Los estudios multiespecíficos son minoritarios y comparables en proporción a estudios comparativos entre dos especies. Estos últimos, a pesar de haber sido fuertemente criticados en el pasado, siguen siendo publicados.
