<text>In this paper we call into question the relationship between development, inequality and territory in the current context of globalization and within the framework of public policies designed, supposedly, to benefit those social actors with fewer resources. In order to do this, we focus on a case study in the northeast of the province of Misiones, Argentina. Here tobacco production, forestry and alternative family farming (AF) (dedicated to food production) are in dispute over the territory, leading to conflict over private land occupation. The analysis evidences: (a) The territorial changes resulting from globalization processes in local areas. (b) The ways in which these changes affect and limit the development proposals arising from public policy aimed at alleviating social inequality (...) The study is based on a qualitative methodology focused on a case study and centered in interviews conducted during 2008 and 2009 to the main actors involved in the conflict over land in the northeast area of the province of Misiones, Argentina. The study shows the contradictions of public policy that proclaim productive growth and development in a legal framework for liberalization and deregulation in favor of large-scale transnational investment, underpinned by large-scale productive activities, highly demanding of land and water.

<text>In this article, we analyze the changes in family production systems throughout their productive paths, emphasizing the changes occurred due to the implementation of palm oil in these systems in Eastern Amazon. The survey was conducted in Northeastern Pará (main oil palm expansion area), where 162 questionnaires were applied to family farmers integrated into palm agribusinesses and also a retrospective analysis was held in 10 farms. As main results, five types of production systems combining palm culture with other activities, such as annual crops cultivation, agroforestry systems (SAF), black pepper and cattle, were identified. In the trajectory analysis, typology revealed three trajectory groups: 1) the trajectory of annual crops with a tendency to specialization in oil palm cultivation; 2) the trajectory of perennial (highlighting black pepper and fruit in SAF) and palm, and; 3) the trajectory of livestock and oil palm. What differentiates the trajectories are the strategies developed by each family to ensure their social reproduction through agriculture. It was concluded that the implementation of palm culture caused changes in the structure, organization and course of production systems, but the changes are not only practical, but also symbolic, because the system integration represents ' modernity ' to family farmers, by having all the financial and technological apparatus that traditional cultures in the region, such as cassava, do not. So for farmers this is the main alternative for development.</text>

L. Moench var. Blanco C-21) y maíz (Zea mays.

<text>This work proposes a critical thought on an intervention experience [the 'tomato platense' project] in which the authors of this article have participated since its beginning. Such thought implies to put in evidence and discussion, the 'what' and the 'how' of the intervention for rural development. For this, we work the concepts of: models of development and intervention, technology, hegemony and family farming; and we propose at the same time, a case study methodological strategy. Subsequently, we carry out a description of the intervention process, identifying stages and highlighting aspects that we consider significant. In that regard we envision a process of legitimization of an alternative proposal, which means in a sense a break-up of the technology spiral dominant present in horticultural belt of La Plata. The initial formulation of the proposal arises from a diagnosis made in Cabinet, in the Faculty of Agricultural and Forest Sciences of the UNLP, which has a later participatory becoming, involving partial and periodic reformulation of the initial proposalEste trabajo se propone una reflexión crítica sobre una experiencia de intervención [El Proyecto Tomate Platense] en la que los autores de este artículo hemos participado desde su comienzo.

The main pretension in this work is to get to know and to recognize the role of the woman farmer in the new productive processes that update the place of the rural in the contemporary societies. The starting point is the organic farming system. One interests to identify the strategies adopted by the family farming for increasing and supporting ways of living the rural world. At the same time, one interests to identify the possibilities to make the rural space - in the context of the modern societies - visible. In this context, one researched the organic farming in the urban area of Curitiba (RMC). One analyzed who are the farmers involved in the process, and inside of it, one tried to indicate what is the role of the woman farmer, from the productive process to the necessary sociability to keep an 'alive rural world' where the organic farming appears as a strategy.</text>

A randomized blocks with four replicates were used in both experiments. In 1996 the treatments included the anaerobic liquid biofertilizer at 50%, aerobic liquid biofertilizer at 5%, manganese sulfate at 1%, hydroalcoholic extract of propolis at 0,2%, macerate of herbs at 2% and 4%, tobacco extract (Nicotiana tabacum) 2 L ha-1 + neutral detergent at 1%, and no spray. In 1997, the treatments were: macerate of herbs 5% and 10%; sulfur waterable powder 0,25% + propolis hydroalcoholic extract 0,2% + extract of fern (Pteridium aquilinum) 3%; anaerobic liquid biofertilizer 50%; extract of wormseed goosefoot (Chenopodium ambrosioides) 10%; aerobic liquid biofertilizer 5%; extract of Ateleia glazioviana 0,5%; extract of fern (Pteridium aquilinum) 10%; extract of chinaberry (Melia zedarach) 10%; extract of camomile (Matricaria chamomilla) 5%; and control without spray. The products were applied using a CO2 sprayer with constant pressure. The different treatments did not cause significant reduction in the thrips population nor any increase in yield in comparison to control treatment, without spray.</text>
