El área foliar es un rasgo funcional que tiene relación con el crecimiento de las plantas y el conocimiento de sus patrones de variación es importante para muchos estudios en ecología. En este trabajo, se seleccionaron 13 especies de árboles que han sido registradas en el bosque seco del Caribe colombiano. De un individuo de cada especie se recolectaron al menos 15 hojas para medir su área (AF), el largo (L) y el ancho (A). La relación entre el AF y las dimensiones L y A como variables predictoras, se analizó para cada especie mediante regresión lineal con las variables transformadas logarítmicamente, para seleccionar el de mejor ajuste estadístico. Adicionalmente, los datos fueron agrupados en siete categorías (hojas compuestas, simples, con área mayor o menor de 50 cm², mayor o menor de 100 cm² y total) para elaborar modelos que pudieran servir para estimar el AF de otras especies fno consideradas en la muestra. Se encontró que existe una relación lineal positiva entre los logaritmos del AF y del producto de L*A, tanto para las especies como para las categorías de especies. Los errores de predicción (EP%) de todos los modelos fueron en general menores al ± 1%, mostrando que son adecuados para estimar el AF para cada especie o categorías de especies. Particularmente el modelo lineal para todas las especies In (AF) = -1,80 + 0,967 ln (L*A) (r2 = 99,5%, p < 0.001) muestra que es adecuado para realizar una estimación del AF de cualquiera de las especies de bosque tropical seco.

El objetivo de esta investigación fue seleccionar los principales recursos locales disponibles, con potencialidades para la alimentación de los ovinos, en el municipio Las Tunas provincia Las Tunas, Cuba. Se aplicó el método de consulta de expertos, a un panel de 26 miembros. Los recursos locales se clasificaron en no forrajeros y forrajeros. Su evaluación se basó en diferentes criterios: disponibilidad anual, costo total del suministro, valor nutricional, tiempo y costo de conservación, adaptabilidad a las condiciones edafoclimáticas locales, producción en periodo poco lluvioso, resistencia a plagas y enfermedades, y producción en condiciones de secano y sin fertilización. Se seleccionaron nueve recursos locales disponibles para la alimentación de los ovinos, el 66 % de los cuales fueron forrajeros. El mayor valor en recursos forrajeros correspondió a Leucaena leucocephala (Lam) de Wit (4,68 ± 0,02) y el menor, a Moringa oleifera Lam (3,18 ± 0,87). En los recursos no forrajeros, el carbonato de calcio tuvo el mayor valor (4,75 ± 0,75) y la vinaza de destilería, el menor (3,0 ± 0,10). En cuanto a la valoración integral de los recursos forrajeros, los mayores valores correspondieron a Saccharum officinarum L., L. leucocephala y las variedades de Pennisetum: 4,54; 4,51 y 4,43, respectivamente; y los menores a Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray, M. oleifera y Morus alba L.: 2,99; 2,66 y 2,64, respectivamente. Se concluye que en el municipio Las Tunas existen entre cinco y seis recursos con potencialidades para la producción de ovinos, entre los que se destacan el carbonato de calcio como no forrajero y L. leucocephala como forrajero.

Las zoonosis son enfermedades que se transmiten de forma natural entre los animales vertebrados y el hombre. Existe un gran número de enfermedades bacterianas, virales y parasitarias, que son transmitidas de los animales a los humanos, mientras que pocas micosis son consideradas, actualmente, como zoonosis. Las micosis zoonóticas son más frecuentes en individuos inmunocomprometidos, incluyendo pacientes hospitalizados, en los cuales, Malassezia pachydermatis, una levadura zoofílica, aparece como un microorganismo importante, en la etiología de micosis nosocomiales. En esta revisión, se mencionan las publicaciones que han reportado la presencia de M pachydermatis en humanos, a través del tiempo, con especial énfasis, en infecciones sistémicas en población de riesgo, a partir de caninos y personal de la salud, colonizados por esta levadura. Asimismo, se recopilan estudios en los que se han aislado en animales, especies antropofílicas del género Malassezia, para contribuir al conocimiento de la ecología y posible mecanismo de transmisión zoonótica, de este microorganismo.

La restauración del capital natural es una de las ideas más radicales que ha surgido en los últimos años, debido a que involucra dos conceptos cuyos exponentes han estado enfrentados por décadas. Por un lado, la necesidad de proteger la biodiversidad y conservar los recursos naturales, tal como lo proponen los conservacionistas y los ambientalistas, y por el otro, la demanda por recursos naturales, según lo proponen los economistas y gran parte de la sociedad. Es necesario trabajar juntos a través de las fronteras disciplinarias tradicionales y las posturas polémicas, con el fin de encontrar soluciones innovadoras que contrarresten la brecha ideológica prevaleciente que separa a la economía y a la ecología. En este trabajo se proponen cinco pilares y tres tareas principales para alcanzar una supervivencia sostenible, incluyendo a la conservación y a la restauración.

Se estudiaron las comunidades de peces en 12 jagüeyes, en función del uso del suelo dado a la zona de captación (agrícola, ganadero y urbanístico), en los municipios de Magangué, Bolívar y Los Palmitos, Sucre. Se capturaron 5695 individuos pertenecientes a nueve familias y cinco órdenes y 13 especies: Hoplias malabaricus, Curimata magdalenae, Astianax fasciatus, Piaractus brachypomus, Roeboides dayii, Prochilodus magdalenae, Hoplosternum thoracatum, Hemiancistrus wilsoni, Caquetaia kraussii, Oreochromis spp., Andinoacara latifrons, Poecilia caucana, Synbranchus marmoratus. Los jagüeyes con mayor riqueza y abundancia fueron los de uso urbanístico con 11 especies y 2512 individuos, seguido del ganadero con siete especies y 2252 individuos, con aplicación de la Prueba F, no existe una diferencia estadísticamente significativa entre las medias de las tres variables con un nivel de confianza del 95,0 %, con un p= 0,54 para A. fasciatus y 0,47 para A. latifrons, p ≥ 0,05. El grado de recambio de especies (diversidad β) entre los jagüeyes y los tres usos dados a su zona de captación fue alto, porque la diferencia en la composición del ensamblaje de peces entre hábitat varía considerablemente, de 13 especies registradas compartieron entre dos y cuatro especies, con valores de complementariedad entre el 50 y 67 % (agricultura), 20 y 50 % (ganadería) y entre el 50 y 86 % (urbanístico), la similitud fue alta en los jagüeyes de uso ganadero. La riqueza y abundancia de peces en jagüeyes encontradas en este estudio tiene una gran significancia ecológica en la conservación y preservación de la diversidad biológica íctica en las sabanas y Bosque seco Tropical en los departamentos de Sucre y Bolívar muy a pesar de la presión ejercida por la contaminación orgánica e inorgánica, producida por las actividades: agrícola, ganadera y urbana.

Apesar do cultivo da berinjela em estufa plástica ter aumentado no sul do Brasil, ainda é escasso o conhecimento sobre a evapotranspiração da cultura na condição de ambiente protegido para o manejo correto da irrigação. Objetivou-se determinar a evapotranspiração máxima e o coeficiente de cultura da berinjela cultivada em estufa plástica. Realizaram-se três experimentos em estufa plástica, dos quais dois na primavera dos anos de 2006 e 2007 e o outro no outono de 2007, na condição de clima subtropical úmido de Santa Maria, RS. As plantas foram cultivadas em camalhões de solo coberto por mulching plástico e irrigado por gotejamento. A evapotranspiração máxima da cultura foi medida em seis repetições de evapotranspirômetros de drenagem, contendo 20 L de substrato e uma planta. A evapotranspiração de referência foi estimada pelo método de Penman-Monteith. Verificou-se que a evapotranspiração máxima da cultura foi maior na primavera do que no outono enquanto o coeficiente de cultura foi maior no outono. Conclui-se que o coeficiente de cultura da berinjela cultivada em estufa plástica pode ser estimado com boa precisão em função dos dias após o transplante ou do índice de área foliar.

El Proyecto se realiza en la población de San José de Saco, corregimiento del municipio de Juan de Acosta (Atlántico). Se trata del diseño de una granja integral autosuficiente, sostenible y ecológica en un terreno de dos (2) hectáreas, seleccionado por su calidad de suelo, disponibilidad y experiencia del propietario, potabilidad del agua y recursos del medio disponible. Se pretende integrar diversos rubros de producción agrícola (hortalizas, maíz, yuca, frutales, pastos y plantas medicinales) y pecuaria (gallinas, conejos, cerdos, cabras y bovinos) que alternativamente garanticen auto-sustentabilidad, generándose un ciclo en el cual el componente agrícola se beneficia del pecuario y viceversa. A través de un proceso elaborado por el lombricultivo se fertiliza el suelo. Desde el punto de vista financiero, el Proyecto es viable y factible, pues los gastos son mínimos y se dispone de un pequeño capital para cubrir gastos de inversión inicial. Se garantiza el cubrimiento de la demanda de alimentos en calidad y cantidad para las necesidades de la familia residente y de la granja en su totalidad. Se recomienda un plan de rotación de cultivos para evitar la pérdida de fertilidad del suelo

El presente artículo constituye el primer avance de una investigación que pretende proponer una metodología de diagnóstico sobre un sistema integrado de gestión de la innovación (SIGI), mediante una investigación cuantitativa y cualitativa en las empresas manufactureras del país. Se trata de definir los medios de control, luego sus indicadores, considerando la gestión del conocimiento, la gestión de la creatividad, la gestióntecnológica, la innovación de productos y la innovación del proceso como medios de control, a partir de las investigaciones realizadas a la fecha, y la aplicación de un cuestionario traducido y adaptado de uno validado, dirigido a las empresas agroindustriales del país como modelo, para luego ser replicado en otros sectores.
