<text>Exotic fish species has caused several impacts on aquatic biodiversity. The Lago de Pátzcuaro has some well-studied exotic species, except the Lerma livebearer Poeciliopsis infans. This fish species was introduced into the Lago de Pátzcuaro before 1997 and the aspects of its biology are still unknown. In this study we assessed aspects of the trophic ecology of this exotic fish, P. infans, using gut content and stable isotope analysis to understand its capacity to tolerate anthropogenic environmental degradation in the Lago de Pátzcuaro. We also determined its trophic guild position (TP) using the TrophLab Program and stable isotope. Niche breadth was calculated by standardized Levins’ Index (Bi). Fish was captured with a seine during wet and dry seasons at six environmentally different sites and gut contents were obtained. We analyzed a total of 239 gut contents of P. infans. The contribution of each food item in the diet was quantified using frequency of occurrence and area percentage. The importance of each prey item was determined according to the index of relative importance (IRI), and the omnivory index (OI) was used to assess the feeding behavior. Fish were categorized by size and the diet was compared between fish sizes and sites. Dorsal muscle tissue and water hyacinth tissue was obtained for nitrogen isotope signature (δ15N) analysis. Additionally, we measured water and habitat quality to evaluate environmental conditions at each site. We concluded that P. infans is an omnivore (OI=0.28) that consumes mainly detritus (44%), epiphytic diatoms (37%), and secondary on terrestrial insects (6%) and zooplankton (10%). The fish can behave as a specialist (Bi=0.39) or generalist (Bi=0.68) and as a primary consumer (TROPH=2.2; TP=2.3) with a feeding strategy that was the same at different sizes, seasons and sites. None of the evaluated sites showed good environmental quality. We argue that P. infans can tolerate changes in water quality and feeding items availability, because it can exploit resources in multiple trophic webs. However, this species could be dependent on habitat complexity, especially in the aquatic vegetation cover.</text>

<text>Using a human rights and feminist economist perspective, this article analyzes the emergency financial policies deployed by international financial institutions (IFIs)-in particular the IMF and the World Bank-to help countries in Latin America cope with the COVID-19 crisis. Looking at the macroeconomic and fiscal assumptions behind IMF loans to countries, it identifies clear signals that fiscal discipline and pro-market options will continue to be priorities as soon as the emergency has been overcome. The study explains how recent adjustment and austerity policies adopted by a number of countries have disproportionately affected women's human rights, reinforcing the invisibilization of gender inequalities in domestic and care work and in turn, making women even more vulnerable to the impact of the pandemic and resulting economic recession. It concludes that in order to properly consider the conditions of IFI loans, countries must evaluate the probable impact of these financial contracts on people's human rights, and in particular on gender equality.</text>

We studied the breeding ecology of Brown Boobies (Sula leucogaster) at Morros El Potosí, Guerrero, between January and June 2006. We determined breeding parameters, foraging habits, and patterns of parental care, and evaluated their effects upon breeding success. Brown Boobies nested during a great part of the year, and exhibited 2 breeding peaks: Fall and Spring. During the later, hatching success was 61%. We estimated 1 300 nests/ha on the slope of the island, and 2 000 nests/ha on the top. We did not record predation, but adverse meteorological conditions caused the loss of eggs and chicks. The longer foraging trips (5.78 ± 0.21 h) and deeper diving (5.52 ± 0.42 m) at Morros El Potosí than at other locations suggested that they required a larger foraging effort here, maybe due to warmer water with less resources. Female Brown Boobies spent more time than males tending nests with eggs, or chicks. There were no differences in parental care of the nest among months, which along with variations in the length of foraging trips among months suggests that there were short-term fluctuations in food availability throughout the study.</text>

Abstract: This article, and in the context of the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation initiated by Martin Luther in 1517, aims to offer the reader some keys to understanding and practicing ecumenical dialogue with the evangelical Christian communities. From this, we maintain as a premise of work, that ecumenism is understood as unity in difference, and that this coexistence represents a gift of the Spirit of Jesus. Welcoming the mediation of the sciences of language, ecology and recent theological reflection, we offer three keys as the engine of a renewed ecumenism, namely, dialogue and its relation to silence as conditio sine qua non of welcoming the other. Then, an approach to what we call ecumenical human ecology. And third, a return on the martyrdom of Christianity, in view of the testimony of unity in difference.</text>

<text>There is a forceful new impetus toward mega-hydraulic projects in Latin America, which are booming but also highly controversial. They bring benefits to some social groups while many others are negatively affected. Technocratic discourses are dominant in the region; they strategically mobilize institutions, infrastructure, money, and knowledge to present particular hydrosocial territorial imaginaries—such as multipurpose dams—as natural, universal, and politically neutral. Meanwhile, affected local communities commonly envision and practice different discourses, values, and worldviews, based on contextualized notions of well-being and territoriality. Using a political ecology perspective, this article examines how the Daule-Peripa mega-hydraulic scheme—Ecuador’s “hydraulic heart”—has de- and repatterned the territory, producing new hierarchical relations and unequal distribution of socioenvironmental impacts. Though political discourses have changed throughout state-centralist and neoliberal époques, governmental policies and practices have continued and renewed their defense of mega-hydraulism. In turn, affected communities and families, through everyday territorial politics, respond and aim to rearrange the hydrosocial network in order to regain control over water, land, and territorial services.
