                <text>Background: senior citizens are those more vulnerable and with greater risk to progress to serious forms of COVID-19.Objective: to identify risks and vulnerabilities to COVID-19 in senior citizens older than 65 years of age belonging to the “Manuel Piti Fajardo Rivero” University Polyclinic of the municipality of Las Tunas, from April to June 2020.Methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 130 senior citizens belonging to the aforementioned health district and during the period herein declared. The following variables were assessed: age, sex, living with other people, past medical history, nutritional condition, visiting the emergency department, acquiescence in protection measures, assessment of the student active screening, among others.Results: there were more women (85 for 65,38 %) and adults between 65 and 70 years (53, 40,77 %). There was a predominance of those living with one or more persons (71,53 %), with a past medical history of cardiovascular conditions (69,23 %), normoweight (56,15 %), and movement restriction (40,79 %), non-visiting the emergency department (87,07 %). All of them wore the mask, observed the regular treatment for basic diseases (64,61 %), and, with symptoms as fever, reported to visit the doctor (90,76 %). The criterion on an adequate student active screening prevailed (97,69 %).Conclusions: advanced age and comorbidity with cardiovascular conditions were the risks identified for COVID-19.</text>

                <text>Objective This study explores the clinical characteristics of patients with diabetes with severe covid-19, and the association of diabetes with survival duration in patients with severe covid-19.Research design and methods In this single-center, retrospective, observational study, the clinical and laboratory characteristics of 193 patients with severe covid-19 were collected. 48 patients with severe covid-19 had diabetes, and 145 patients (ie, the controls) did not have diabetes. A severe case was defined as including at least one of the following criteria: (1) Respiratory rate &amp;gt;30/min. (2) Oxygen saturation ≤93%. (3) PaO2/FiO2≤300 mm Hg. (4) Patients, either with shock or respiratory failure, requiring mechanical ventilation, or combined with other organ failure, requiring admission to intensive care unit (ICU).Results Of 193 patients with severe covid-19, 48 (24.9%) had diabetes. Compared with patients with severe covid-19 without diabetes, patients with diabetes were older, susceptible to receiving mechanical ventilation and admission to ICU, and had higher mortality. In addition, patients with severe covid-19 with diabetes had higher levels of leukocyte count, neutrophil count, high-sensitivity C reaction protein, procalcitonin, ferritin, interleukin (IL) 2 receptor, IL-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor α, D-dimer, fibrinogen, lactic dehydrogenase and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide. Among patients with severe covid-19 with diabetes, more non-survivors were men (30 (76.9%) vs 9 (23.1%)). Non-survivors had severe inflammatory response, and cardiac, hepatic, renal and coagulation impairment. Finally, the Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed a trend towards poorer survival in patients with severe covid-19 with diabetes than patients without diabetes. The HR was 1.53 (95% CI 1.02 to 2.30; p=0.041) after adjustment for age, sex, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease by Cox regression. The median survival durations from hospital admission in patients with severe covid-19 with and without diabetes were 10 days and 18 days, respectively.Conclusion The mortality rate in patients with severe covid-19 with diabetes is considerable. Diabetes may lead to an increase in the risk of death.</text>

                <text>The COVID-19 pandemic is considered a mass casualty incident of the most severe nature leading to unearthed uncertainties around management, prevention, and care. As of July 2020, more than twelve million people have tested positive for COVID-19 globally and more than 500 000 people have died. Patients with diabetes are among the most severely affected during this pandemic. Healthcare systems have made emergent changes to adapt to this public health crisis, including changes in diabetes care. Adaptations in diabetes care in the hospital (ie, changes in treatment protocols according to clinical status, diabetes technology implementation) and outpatient setting (telemedicine, mail delivery, patient education, risk stratification, monitoring) have been improvised to address this challenge. We describe how to respond to the current public health crisis focused on diabetes care in the USA. We present strategies to address and evaluate transitions in diabetes care occurring in the immediate short-term (ie, response and mitigation), as well as phases to adapt and enhance diabetes care during the months and years to come while also preparing for future pandemics (ie, recovery, surveillance, and preparedness). Implementing multidimensional frameworks may help identify gaps in care, alleviate initial demands, mitigate potential harms, and improve implementation strategies and outcomes in the future.</text>

                <text>The use of gamification is garnering attention as a method that promotes sustainable learning during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) era. This study investigates the effect that gamified online learning has on student learning and has utilized a gamified online learning program to examine the impact. To determine the program’s effectiveness, a study has been conducted with 140 elementary and middle school students. A previously developed survey instrument was used to measure the results. The study’s findings suggest that gamification in online learning has a positive impact on learner motivation and the understanding of the educational content. Based on the findings, this study proposes that gamification should be used as a sustainable method to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) of ensuring “quality education”.</text>

                <text>From early 2020 onwards, the world has been going through an unprecedented wave of lockdowns, shutdowns, and preventive measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is evident that these have been harmful for tourism, passenger transport, and the service sector in general. However, less is known regarding the implications for manufacturing and logistics, which is the purpose of this research. We concentrate on reporting survey findings from Northern Europe, and mostly from Finland. Based on trade accounts, it is evident that Covid-19 has had significant impacts on Finnish import and export. However, in survey responses, companies report that they have mostly been able to serve customers in a good fashion, and the pandemic has increased transportation costs only moderately. Inventories might experience an increase due to the virus, however, in the longer term they will likely remain at the earlier levels (or slightly increase). Companies are mostly afraid of the effects of the second wave of the epidemic, and are also already thinking about the long-term issues with transportation modes used together with supply chain dependencies. For example, the Chinese and, in part, Russian, markets are increasingly being served by railways during the current decade. For some companies (especially small and medium-sized ones) and foreign trade markets, however, the epidemic era has been very harmful. Therefore, as a conclusion we argue that the pandemic is causing rather asymmetrical impacts on manufacturing and logistics.</text>

                <text>Objective: The occurrence of crises such as the outbreak of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) showed that the availability of a mask that fits the face is of great importance for individuals. The present study was performed to design a tool to assess the facial fitness of the mask based on face dimensions. Methods: A hybrid method is introduced which consists of modeling of a fuzzy system using a neural network, so that with only one-time training of this neuro-fuzzy system, ANFIS, it is possible to easily determine the fit of N95 respiratory mask only by applying the anthropometric dimensions of the face. Six anthropometric dimensions of the face were assigned as the inputs and respiratory mask fitness was assigned as the output of the ANFIS model. Results: The proposed neuro-fuzzy system, ANFIS, is designed in such a way that by specifying the input parameters for each individual, the fitness of the mask to the face can be predicted. Conclusion: According to the results of the probability predicted by the neuro-fuzzy system, using the data of the six dimensions of the face, in about 75 percent of the cases the fitness of the mask to the face of individuals can be predicted accurately; therefore, the designed ANFIS network can be used instead of the fitness test to predict the fitness of the respiratory mask to the face using the anthropometric data of the face of the individuals only when it is not possible to perform the fit testing.</text>

                <text>The 2020 quarantine demonstrated that online food purchase has become one of the main protagonists of the pandemic. The present study valued the Internet as a mediator between producers and consumers with the power to create new demand for Romanian traditional food during the COVID-19 crisis. Authors aimed at carrying out an exploratory research about the online purchase of traditional foods (TFs). Within this context, the study, firstly, outlines the meaning of traditional foods in the Romanian consumers’ minds and, secondly, it identifies the variables that can predict the preference for the online purchase of TFs during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online survey was carried out to investigate the Romanian consumers’ perceptions (n = 223) of TFs and online purchase of TFs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Binary logistic regression tested the relationship between the preference for the online purchase of TFS (vs. in-store) and seven perceived characteristics of TFs. Results show that the preference for the online purchase of TFs during the COVID-19 pandemic can be predicted by five variables—“TFs taste”; “Effect of TFs consumption on health during the COVID-19 pandemic”; “Effect of online TFs purchase on health during the COVID-19 pandemic”; “How cheap/expensive is to buy TFS online during the COVID-19 pandemic”; and “Easiness to purchase TFS online during the COVID-19 pandemic”. It was concluded that TFs have to claim their place within this digitized landscape by finding the balance between old and new, between preferences for foods taste passed through generations and new life lifestyles at 5G speed.</text>

                <text>The pandemic caused by novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is generating a high number of cases and deaths, with negative effects on public health and economic systems. One of the current questions in the contemporary environmental and sustainability debate is how high air pollution and reduced use of renewable energy can affect the diffusion of COVID-19. This study endeavors to explain the relation between days of air pollution, wind resources and energy, and the diffusion of COVID-19 to provide insights into sustainable policy to prevent future epidemics. The statistical analysis here focuses on a case study of Italy, one of the first countries to experience a rapid increase in confirmed cases and deaths. The results reveal two main findings: (1) cities with high wind speed and high wind energy production have a lower number of cases of COVID-19 in the context of a more sustainable environment; (2) cities located in hinterland zones with high air pollution, low wind speed and less wind energy production have a greater number of cases and total deaths. The results presented here suggest that the pandemic caused by novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and future epidemics similar to COVID-19 cannot be solved only with research in medicine but the solution also needs advanced capabilities and technologies for supporting sustainable development based on the reduction of air pollution and increase of production in renewable energy to improve air quality and as a consequence public health.</text>

En este contexto, los trabajadores y las trabajadoras de la economía popular han sido fuertemente afectados: la inmensa mayoría viven al día con ingresos de subsistencia y se encuentran por fuera de los dispositivos formales de protección social.En este artículo nos proponemos abordar la particular situación en la que se encuentran los/as vendedores/as callejeros/as de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, considerando dos dimensiones que permiten comprender las condiciones de (re)producción y profundización de las desigualdades en tiempos de crisis: el género y el acceso a las políticas públicas. El análisis muestra que, frente al escenario actual y futuro, se requiere un cambio en la orientación de las acciones estatales que gire desde la lógica asistencial hacia el reconocimiento del valor económico, social y cultural del trabajo que aportan los/as trabajadores/as de la economía popular y contemplando sus problemáticas de manera integral con perspectiva de género.</text>

                <text>Debido a la emergencia global por causa del COVID-19, se hizo necesario por parte de los profesores de la Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED), de Costa Rica incorporar en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizajes de los estudiantes, más trabajo virtual que permita que el proceso educativo sea eficaz y responda a los objetivos y metas propuestos, en tiempos de aislamiento social. Por consiguiente, la presente investigación responde al estudio realizado en el primer cuatrimestre 2020, a los estudiantes de la UNED, de las carreras: Enseñanza de las Ciencias Naturales, Manejo de Recursos Naturales e Ingeniería Industrial y la utilización por parte de los educandos de la plataforma Moodle, para la utilización del Laboratorio Remoto de la universidad y con ello realizar sus prácticas educativas, como complemento educativo en los cursos matriculados. En el proceso de enseñanza- apren-dizaje en esta “nueva normalidad”, requiere aportes sustantivos para que el desarrollo educativo se ajuste a nuevos cambios, salvaguardando los estándares de calidad, pertinencia e inclusividad. Razón por la cual el presente estudio permite conocer el grado de utilidad que los Laboratorios Remotos representan en la actualidad para los estudiantes.</text>
