En los bosques andino-patagónicos, la ganadería es una de las principales actividades productivas que genera cambios en los ecosistemas naturales. El objetivo del trabajo fue caracterizar la variación de la diversidad funcional de la vegetación del sotobosque en sitios con distintas intensidades de uso silvopastoril, y los efectos que estas variaciones producen sobre la tasa de descomposición del mantillo, en bosques mixtos de ciprés y coihue del suroeste de la Provincia de Río Negro (Argentina). Para ello se caracterizó la variación en las propiedades funcionales de la vegetación (i.e., ciclo y forma de vida, arquitectura, hábitat, tamaño y textura de la hoja, sistema radical) y se cuantificó la tasa de descomposición del mantillo del sitio. Los resultados mostraron que tanto el índice de diversidad funcional (FDQ) como la tasa de descomposición fueron mayores en los sitios con alta intensidad de uso silvopastoril, pero no se encontró una relación significativa entre ambas variables. También se detectó que ciertos rasgos funcionales de las plantas (e.g., la arquitectura roseta, el hábitat postrado y la forma de vida helecho) tienen un efecto significativo sobre el porcentaje de peso perdido del mantillo. En sitios con alta intensidad de uso silvopastoril aumentó la proporción relativa de cobertura de especies con arquitectura roseta y hábitat postrado, lo que derivó en un aumento de la tasa de descomposición. Esto indica que la actividad silvopastoril podría estar modificando la comunidad original hacia especies de rápida adquisición de recursos, alterando a su vez al ciclado de nutrientes. En este sentido, el funcionamiento del ecosistema estaría influenciado por la presencia de rasgos funcionales de mayor importancia, en vez de la diversidad funcional en sí misma. Recientemente se identificó el gen RXam1 el cual confiere resistencia parcial de yuca a cepas de Xam. RXam1 codifica una proteína con un dominio LRR (Leucine Rich Repeats) extracelular y un dominio STK (Serina Treonina Kinasa) citoplasmático; estas proteínas son conocidas como RLKs (Receptor Like Kinases). En este estudio se realizó el tamizaje de una librería de ADNc de yuca mediante doble híbrido de levadura para identificar las posibles proteínas que interactúan con el dominio STK de RXam1. El tamizaje de 3x108 clones permitió identificar y confirmar cinco clones de ellos los cuales corresponden al mismo gen, el cual codifica para una proteína que presenta un dominio central de dedos de zinc CHY, seguido por un dominio C-terminal “RING finger” y un “Zinc ribbon” el cual fue denominado CRFE3-1 (Cassava RING Finger E3 ligase). La interacción entre STK y CRFE3-1 fue altamente especifica ya que se demostró también por doble híbrido que STK no interactúa con una E3 ligasa de Arabidopsis, altamente similar a CRFE3-1, así como tampoco CRFE3-1 interactúa con el dominio STK de un RLK de lechuga similar a RXam1. La identificación de CRFE3-1 sugiere que mecanismos de degradación proteica son importantes para regular la actividad de RXam1. Una de sus características principales es su alta especificidad de hospedero que incluye un rango muy estrecho de especies de insectos, que a menudo pertenecen a la misma familia. Sin embargo, es necesario entender los mecanismos involucrados en la definición del rango de hospederos de los baculovirus con el fin de evaluar la seguridad e inocuidad de su uso y determinar la posibilidad de mejorar sus propiedades para aplicaciones biotecnológicas mediante la construcción de baculovirus recombinantes con diferentes rangos de hospederos. En el presente artículo se revisarán los principales mecanismos comprendidos en la definición del rango de hospederos de los baculovirus, dentro de los que se destacan la especificidad para entrar en las células, la posibilidad de replicación del genoma viral, el control de los procesos bioquímicos y moleculares del insecto y las interacciones virus-hospedero que regulan la multiplicación del agente infeccioso, así como las perspectivas de la aplicación de este conocimiento. Abstract: Baculoviruses are insect pathogenic viruses widely used as bioinsecticides for controlling of several agricultural important pests and more recently as protein expression vectors and gene therapy vectors. One of its main characteristics is its high host-specificity including a very narrow range of insect species, which often belong to the same family. However, to understand the mechanisms involved in the definition of baculoviruses host range is necessary in order to assess the security and safety of its use and to determine the possibility of improving their properties for biotechnological applications through the construction of recombinant baculovirus with different host ranges. In the present article the main mechanisms involved in baculoviruses host range as specificity for entering into the host cells, the possibility of viral genome replication, the control of biochemical and molecular insect processes and the interactions virus-host regulating the multiplication of the infectious agent, and the prospects of applying this knowledge will be reviewed. In the context of the current COVID-19 outbreak and the critical information gaps regarding the disease, several different therapeutic strategies are under investigation, including the use of stem cells. In the present manuscript, we provide an analysis of the rationale underlying the application of stem cells to manage COVID-19, and also a comprehensive compendium of the 69 clinical trials underway worldwide aiming to investigate the application of stem cells to treat COVID-19. Even though data are still scarce, it is already possible to observe the protagonism of China in testing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for COVID-19. Furthermore, it is possible to determine that current efforts focus on the use of multiple infusions of high numbers of stem cells and derived products, as well as to acknowledge the positive results obtained by independent groups who publicized the therapeutic benefits provided by such therapies in 51 COVID-19 patients. In such a rapid-paced field, up-to-date systematic studies and meta-analysis will aid the scientific community to separate hype from hope and offer an unbiased position to the society and governments.
