                <text>The COVID-19 pandemic and consequent lockdown have precipitated significant disruption in the educational system. Nursing students are known to have higher levels of stress and anxiety than other non-nursing students, but there is a dearth of evidence regarding the impacts of the COVID-19 lockdown on their mental health and coping mechanisms. Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the influence of coping mechanisms as predictors of stress, anxiety, and depression among nursing students during the COVID-19 lockdown. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted from 20 April to 10 May 2020 among 173 nursing students at a private university in Southern California, USA. Results: Self-reported stress, anxiety, and depression were significantly higher during the lockdown compared to the pre-lockdown period (p &lt; 0.001). Almost a quarter of participants reported high stress, while more than half reported moderate-to-severe symptoms of anxiety and depression. High resilience was negatively associated with high stress (Odds Ratio (OR) = 0.46; 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 0.22–0.98; p = 0.045), moderate-to-severe anxiety (OR = 0.47; 95%CI = 0.25–0.90; p = 0.022), and moderate-to-severe depression (OR = 0.50; 95%CI = 0.26–0.95; p = 0.036). Similarly, high family functioning was negatively associated with high stress (OR = 0.41; 95%CI = 0.20–0.86; p = 0.018), moderate-to-severe anxiety (OR = 0.41; 95%CI = 0.21–0.80; p = 0.009), and moderate-to-severe depression (OR = 0.41; 95%CI = 0.20–0.81; p = 0.011). High spiritual support was negatively associated with moderate-to-severe depression (OR = 0.48; 95%CI = 0.24–0.95; p = 0.035). Conclusions: During the COVID-19 lockdown, nursing students experienced remarkable levels of poor mental health. High levels of resilience and family functioning were associated with 2- to 2.4-fold lower risk of stress, anxiety, and depression, whereas high spiritual support was associated with 2-fold lower risk of depression. As the pandemic evolves, fostering these coping mechanisms may help students to maintain their psychological wellbeing.</text>

                <text>Abstract Background The 2008 Great Recession significantly impacted economies and individuals globally, with potential impacts on food systems and dietary intake. We systematically reviewed evidence on the impact of the Great Recession on individuals’ dietary intake globally and whether disadvantaged individuals were disproportionately affected. Methods We searched seven databases and relevant grey literature through June 2020. Longitudinal quantitative studies with the 2008 recession as the exposure and any measure of dietary intake (energy intake, dietary quality, and food/macronutrient consumption) as the outcome were eligible for inclusion. Eligibility was independently assessed by two reviewers. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale was used for quality and risk of bias assessment. We undertook a random effects meta-analysis for changes in energy intake. Harvest plots were used to display and summarise study results for other outcomes. The study was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019135864). Results Forty-one studies including 2.6 million people met our inclusion criteria and were heterogenous in both methods and results. Ten studies reported energy intake, 11 dietary quality, 34 food intake, and 13 macronutrient consumption. The Great Recession was associated with a mean reduction of 103.0 cal per adult equivalent per day (95% Confidence Interval: − 132.1, − 73.9) in high-income countries (5 studies) and an increase of 105.5 cal per adult per day (95% Confidence Interval: 72.8, 138.2) in middle-income countries (2 studies) following random effects meta-analysis. We found reductions in fruit and vegetable intake. We also found reductions in intake of fast food, sugary products, and soft drinks. Impacts on macronutrients and dietary quality were inconclusive, though suggestive of a decrease in dietary quality. The Great Recession had greater impacts on dietary intake for disadvantaged individuals. Conclusions The 2008 recession was associated with diverse impacts on diets. Calorie intake decreased in high income countries but increased in middle income countries. Fruit and vegetable consumption reduced, especially for more disadvantaged individuals, which may negatively affect health. Fast food, sugary products, and soft drink consumption also decreased which may confer health benefits. Implementing effective policies to mitigate adverse nutritional changes and encourage positive changes during the COVID-19 pandemic and other major economic shocks should be prioritised.</text>

                <text>The paper presents the most comprehensive and large-scale study to date on how students perceive the impacts of the first wave of COVID-19 crisis in early 2020 on various aspects of their lives on a global level. With a sample of 30,383 students from 62 countries, the study reveals that amid the worldwide lockdown and transition to online learning students were most satisfied with the support provided by teaching staff and their universities’ public relations. Still, deficient computer skills and the perception of a higher workload prevented them from perceiving their own improved performance in the new teaching environment. Students were mainly concerned about issues to do with their future professional career and studies, and experienced boredom, anxiety, and frustration. The pandemic has led to the adoption of particular hygienic behaviours (e.g., wearing masks, washing hands) and discouraged certain daily practices (e.g., leaving home, shaking hands). Students were also more satisfied with the role played by hospitals and universities during the epidemic compared to the governments and banks. The findings also show that students with certain socio-demographic characteristics (male, part-time, first-level, applied sciences, a lower living standard, from Africa or Asia) were significantly less satisfied with their academic work/life during the crisis, whereas female, full-time, first-level students and students faced with financial problems were generally affected more by the pandemic in terms of their emotional life and personal circumstances. Key factors influencing students’ satisfaction with the role of their university are also identified. Policymakers and higher education institutions around the world may benefit from these findings while formulating policy recommendations and strategies to support students during this and any future pandemics.</text>

Essas entraves estão relacionados ao consumo elevado de água e pouco uso de tecnologias eficientes no tratamento de águas residuais; à ausência de incentivos fiscais do governo para aquisição de novas tecnologias; aos altos valores tributários que dificultam a aquisição de tecnologias inovadoras; à falta de motivação e interesse dos gestores para tecnologias relacionadas ao meio ambiente; e à omissão da fiscalização de órgãos competentes.     PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Economia circular. Carne bovina.         ABSTRACT  The objective of this research was to analyze how technological impasses make difficult the implementation of the biological cycle of the circular economy in the beef processing industry. The research method was a multiple case study with a qualitative approach. The instruments used were interviews, documentary research, observation and visual data. The results show that there are several technological obstacles that hamper the implementation of the principles of the Circular Economy in the beef processing industry. These barriers are related to high water consumption and little use of efficient technologies in wastewater treatment; the absence of government tax incentives for the acquisition of new technologies; high tax values ​​that hinder the acquisition of innovative technologies; the lack of motivation and interest of the managers for technologies related to the environment; and omission of the supervision of competent bodies.     KEYWORDS: Circular economy. Bovine meat.        RESUMEN  El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar cómo los impasses tecnológicos dificultan la implementación del ciclo biológico de la economía circular en la industria de procesamiento de carne bovina.                 <text>O presente artigo trata do modelo de desenvolvimento econômico predominante no sistema capitalista e aponta as consequências ambientais negativas que decorrem desse e afetam as regiões globais periféricas. Para tanto, realizou-se um resgate histórico que abrangeu as práticas dos países imperialistas na modernidade e observou-se a degradação ambiental no âmbito internacional. Ademais, adotou-se o método de abordagem materialista histórico-dialético e o instrumental teórico marxista para a análise da crise socioambiental, com o auxílio de documentação indireta enquanto técnica de pesquisa. Em sede conclusiva, verificou-se que a territorialização dos impactos ambientais negativos é um efeito intrínseco ao capitalismo imperialista no período globalizado, que especialmente ocorre em detrimento dos países pobres e pode ser explicada em razão de relações de exploração social e ambiental ao longo da história, que culminaram no arranjo sociopolítico e econômico internacional da contemporaneidade.</text>

                <text>Durante cinco años se desarrollaron trabajos de campo contenidos dentro del Manejo Sostenible de Tierras (MST) en una finca ganadera de la zona pre montañosa de la provincia de Cienfuegos, la cual está ubicada sobre suelos Pardos Grisáceos. El presente trabajo demostró que con el MST en la aplicación de medidas sencillas de conservación y mejoramiento del suelo tales como: laboreo mínimo, siembra en contorno, canales terrazas y el uso de policultivos se evitó la pérdida de 10.2 t/ha de suelo y se retuvieron como promedio 168, 294 y 295 kg/ha de P2O5, K2O y MO respectivamente. Se mejoró la fertilidad del suelo al incrementarse ligeramente los contenidos de M. O, P2O5, K2O manteniéndose el pH en los rangos iníciales e incrementó el rendimiento de yuca, maíz, tomate, fríjol y boniato en un 20-36 %. El uso de policultivos indicó que 1 hectárea de yuca y frijol sembrados juntos producen en total los mismos que 1.83 ha de yuca y frijol por separado. Mientras que las asociaciones gramíneas-leguminosas en áreas forrajeras propiciaron incrementos de la producción de pastos y proteína bruta y la sustitución de la fertilización nitrogenada de 150kg/ha/año.</text>

                <text>Los sistemas rurales han sido sometidos a un proceso de conversión creciente que ha provocado grandes cambios estructurales y funcionales en los agroecosistemas de la región. El reemplazo de pastizales naturales por cultivos anuales con la consecuente incorporación de tecnología permitió elevar significativamente la productividad biológica y económica de esas tierras. No obstante, simultáneamente se vieron modificados los flujos de energía, los ciclos minerales, el proceso hidrológico, la estabilidad y fertilidad de los suelos, el hábitat y la biodiversidad de las regiones intervenidas. La región Pampeana Austral es un ejemplo de cómo los cambios en el uso de la tierra agudizan los problemas ambientales y conducen a una simplificación estructural y funcional de los sistemas productivos. Por este motivo, surge como objetivo evaluar la situación ambiental de un establecimiento rural representativo del partido de Tandil para la aplicación preliminar de Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas, campaña 2013/2014. La metodología consta de dos etapas. Una primera fase de análisis de puntos de control planteados por las Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas. Se recurrió a un análisis descriptivo y cuali-cuantitativo en el que se utilizaron fuentes primarias (observación directa en trabajo de campo, adaptación de la lista de verificación de variables del manual Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas (2013), entrevistas semiestructuradas dirigidas al productor y empleados del establecimiento) y fuentes secundarias (registros documentales de las actividades realizadas en el establecimiento, manual de Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas Global Gap (2013). La segunda etapa es la comprensión de la situación ambiental del establecimiento rural evaluado de manera cuali-cuantitativa y sintética a partir de una matriz DAFO. Del total de los aspectos evaluados, el 60% de los puntos de control analizados presentan una situación ambiental óptima o adecuada para la incorporación de Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas y el 40% de ellos una situación comprometida. Es posible concluir que la mayor parte de los procesos y acciones llevadas a cabo en el establecimiento rural son favorables para la puesta en marcha de dichas prácticas. Sin embargo, cabe destacar que existen impactos, como los producidos sobre la biodiversidad, que deben superarse aun para mejorar la situación ambiental de los puntos de control desfavorables. Luego, las conclusiones muestran que diferentes medidas destinadas a disminuir los efectos negativos fueron identificadas. No obstante, mientras se incorporan técnicas que aumentan la sustentabilidad en términos de conservación de suelos, aumenta la demanda de insumos energéticos, de agroquímicos y de la cantidad de litros utilizados por año. Se espera aportar al establecimiento un panorama preliminar para la implementación de Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas, no solo analizando y potenciando fortalezas y oportunidades que presenta, sino también tomando medidas correctoras respecto a amenazas y debilidades. A su vez, se pretende contribuir al análisis de la gestión ambiental de agroecosistemas a partir de la aplicación a un caso de estudio concreto y con una metodología posible de aplicar en otros establecimientos rurales de semejantes características. Sería fundamental, a partir de este trabajo, la concientización de productores, la incorporación de prácticas tendientes a la sustentabilidad ambiental y el desarrollo de políticas para un futuro ordenamiento territorial ambiental.</text>
