An increased incidence of dieback from branches in several avocado orchards in southern Spain was observed in 2014. Surveys were conducted from May to October 2014, sampling the affected branches to isolate the causal agents. A total of 68 fungal isolates, recovered from ten avocado orchards, were identified, by morphological characterisation and DNA sequencing, as belonging to the genera: Neofusicoccum parvum (50%), Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (17.6%), Neofusicoccum luteum (16.2%), Neofusicoccum australe (13.2%), Neofusicoccum mediterraneum (1.5%) and Lasiodiplodia theobromae (1.5%). A decreasing level of virulence in artificial inoculations on avocado plants was observed in N. parvum, N. luteum, N. mediterraneum, N. australe, C. gloeosporioides and L. theobromae, there were significant differences among N. parvum and the rest of species of this genus, and significant differences were only observed between N. luteum and C. gloeosporioides. The geographical distribution of N. parvum and N. Luteum covers different areas, while C. gloeosporioides and N. australe are located only in the areas around Benamocarra and Vélez-Málaga (southern Spain), while N. mediterraneum and L. theobromae appear only occasionally. This is the first study of avocado branch cankers in Spain which identifies the causal agents and establishes their pathogenicity groups, with N. parvum as the most important causal agent of avocado dieback in this area.

O propósito deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de biogás, bem como os potenciais de produção e a qualidade do biofertilizante obtido com a biodigestão anaeróbia dos resíduos cama de frangos e carcaças de aves pré-compostados. Para tanto, foram pré-compostados cama de frango e carcaças de aves mortas em uma composteira durante um período de 60 dias, período necessário para que ocorresse decomposição prévia das carcaças e assim fosse possível manipular o material para abastecer os biodigestores. Após este período, o material foi utilizado para abastecer os biodigestores batelada de campo com capacidade de 60 litros de material em fermentação. Para o processo de biodigestão anaeróbia, foram efetuadas análises dos teores de sólidos totais (ST), sólidos voláteis (SV), composição química do efluente, potenciais de produção, além do número mais provável (NMP) de coliformes totais e termotolerantes no afluente e efluente. Os potenciais médios de produção de biogás foram: 0,073; 0,152 e 0,141m³.kg-1 de material, SV e ST adicionados, respectivamente. Foram observadas reduções acima de 99% no NMP de coliformes totais e termotolerantes, sendo observado NMP de 3,7 x 10(5) g-1 no início e 7,45 x 10² g-1 no final.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the production of biogas, and the production potential, and quality of biofertilizer obtained from the anaerobic digestion of waste poultry litter and poultry carcasses pre composted. For this were pre composted poultry litter and carcasses of dead birds in a composter for a period of 60 days, time needed to occur prior decomposition of the carcasses and so it can manipulate the material to supply the biodigestor. After this period the material was used to supply the batch field biodigestor with a capacity of 60 liters of material in fermentation. For the process of anaerobic digestion tests were performed in the levels of total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), chemical composition of effluent, and the most probable number (MPN) of total and thermotolerant coliforms in the influent and effluent. The potential average productions of biogas are: 0073, 0152, 0141m ³.kg-1 of material, VS and TS added, respectively. There were reductions of over 99% in NMP of total and thermotolerant coliforms, and observed MPN of 3.7 x 10(5).g-1 at the beginning and 7.45 x 10² g-1 at the end.

O surgimento de novos produtos para a incorporação de aditivos às sementes de soja aumenta a cada ano e, portanto, pouco se sabe sobre o real efeito destes na qualidade fisiológica das sementes e no desenvolvimento da cultura. Diante do exposto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito fitotônico da adição de inseticidas ao tratamento de sementes de soja com bioestimulante, durante o desenvolvimento inicial da cultura. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação e contou com seis tratamentos de sementes, constituídos por: bioestimulante (T1), bioestimulante + fipronil (T2), bioestimulante + fipronil + piraclostrobina + tiofanato-metílico (T3), bioestimulante + abamectina (T4), bioestimulante + thiamethoxam (T5) e bioestimulante + imidacloprido + tiodicarbe (T6). As avaliações ocorreram 21 dias após a semeadura da soja, no estádio fenológico V4-V5. Foi avaliado: massa seca da parte aérea, massa seca da raiz, diâmetro do caule e altura de planta. A adição de inseticidas no tratamento de sementes de soja com bioestimulante, nas condições em que o experimento foi realizado, gerou acréscimos para a massa seca das raízes. Destacando-se o ingrediente ativo Thiamethoxam. Os inseticidas não proporcionaram incrementos na massa seca da parte aérea e na altura de plantas de soja. O diâmetro do caule apresentou respostas variáveis de acordo com o inseticida utilizado.

The National Program for Fortifying Familiar Agriculture (Pronaf) defray farming and investment were evaluated in the town of Palotina – PR between its beneficiaries from June 1999 to December 2002. A comparison with the previous period to the use of this program, objectifying to identify the points of impact and change in the productive unit, more specifically in the developed economic activities and the social transformations has been made. Moreover, it analyses the adopted technological model for the producers of the city, the reorganization of the familiar composition, and the diversity of activities as an additional instrument of income and especially the proposal of Pronaf as governmental policies and its interaction with the other policies destined to the farming sector.

Plant proteases play a crucial role in many different biological processes along the plant life cycle. One of the most determinant stages in which proteases are key protagonists is the plant germination through the hydrolysis and mobilization of other proteins accumulated in seeds and cereal grains. The most represented proteases in charge of this are the cysteine proteases group, including the C1A family known as papain-like and the C13 family also called legumains. In cereal species such as wheat, oat or rye, gluten is a very complex mixture of grain storage proteins, which may affect the health of sensitive consumers like celiac patients. Since gluten proteins are suitable targets for plant proteases, the knowledge of the proteases involved in storage protein mobilization could be employed to manipulate the amount of gluten in the grain. Some proteases have been previously found to exhibit promising properties for their application in the degradation of known toxic peptides from gluten. To explore the variability in gluten-degrading capacities, we have now analyzed the degradation of gluten from different wheat cultivars using several cysteine proteases from barley. The wide variability showed highlights the possibility to select the protease with the highest potential to alter grain composition reducing the gluten content. Consequently, new avenues could be explored combining genetic manipulation of proteolytic processes with silencing techniques to be used as biotechnological tools against gluten-related disorders.

The aim of this article is to show characteristics of the agricultural policy stricto sensu that favored the agribusiness and agricultural development in Brazil in the past 30 years. To understand this process, the article has a brief description of the instruments of agricultural policy adopted by the Government during this period, so as to adapt to the demands of the WTO and the constraints of the economic situation. In the first phase, from 1964 to 1985, was achieved significantly increase agricultural production by guaranteeing domestic supply, which was a important bottleneck of Brazilian economy in the period pre-1964. Agricultural modernization was achieved with a high social cost, but it should be noted that this issue was not a central concern of the military governments. In the second phase (1985-2001), when Brazil starts the redemocratization, agricultural policy also changes and is consistent with macroeconomic objectives. By that time it was necessary to reduce the fiscal deficit and pay foreign debt. This goal was achieved with the large surpluses generated by the agribusiness despite the drastic reduction of agricultural subsidies. The third period (2002-present) seeks to reconcile the promotion of agribusiness with the reduction of poverty, which was an outstanding democratization agenda and which had been postponed according to the need of solving the fiscal and inflation problems from the 80's. Once solved the problem of inflation, the State regain its planning capacity and begins to attack social problems

El objetivo de la investigación fue crear un mapa de la variabilidad espacial de la rentabilidad de la soja, a través de datos de productividad del cultivo, a fin de analizar la viabilidad económica del mismo. El trabajo se realizó durante la zafra 2014/2015, en la agro-ganadera Querencia (Villeta-Central). La variedad de soja utilizada fue Syn 1161 RR. La implantación del cultivo fue en una superficie de 21,03 ha, en un sistema de siembra directa, donde la fertilización, control de malezas, enfermedades y plagas fueron realizadas de acuerdo con las recomendaciones y necesidades del cultivo. Para la obtención de la rentabilidad, primeramente, fue determinada la productividad del cultivo a través de un muestreo en malla, de modo a proporcionar el mayor número de puntos posibles para la caracterización del área. La localización y distribución geográfica de los puntos de muestreo se efectuó con un receptor GPS-Trimble. Se realizó un análisis exploratorio y análisis geoestadístico de los datos, a fin de la determinación de la dependencia espacial y generación de los mapas. La creación de un mapa de lucratividad, a partir de datos de la productividad, se mostró adecuada, permitiendo observar la variabilidad espacial del lucro, cuando comparado con el promedio del área, lo que permitió contar con una información precisa de la viabilidad económica del cultivo bajo esas condiciones. La productividad promedio fue de 3.753,33 kg ha-1, superior a la media nacional, donde el 71,95% del área presentó un rendimiento de 2.403,11 a 4.267,17 kg ha-1, con una rentabilidad de 409,93 a 969,15 US$ ha-1.

O objetivo deste artigo é explorar como as políticas de cuidados e tratamento de HIV/SIDA e as atitudes de alguns profissionais de saúde afectam a possibilidade de que os pacientes, em particular as mulheres, cumpram com os requisitos da terapia antirretroviral e prossigam o tratamento em Moçambique (Manica e Maputo). Concentro-me na desigualdade em termos da invisibilidade da agricultura familiar e da diversificação de meios de sustento sugerindo que: a) as políticas e o tratamento do HIV/SIDA não tomam em conta as condições de vida dos pacientes que pretendem servir. Os serviços de saúde não consideram a flexibilidade exigida pela combinação de diversos meios de sustento por parte dos pacientes; b) a invisibilidade e a desvalorização da agricultura de pequena escala diminuem as possibilidades das mulheres de cumprir com as exigências do tratamento, com consequências para a adesão ao tratamento e, por conseguinte, com graves consequências para a sua saúde e prolongamento da sua vida.

Describimos las características de los agroecosistemas y rasgos morfológicos, físicos y químicos relacionados con la calidad de los frutos de la guayaba, Spondias purpurea L., que se producen en poblaciones silvestres y cultivadas en el centro-occidente de México. Spondias purpurea se desarrolla en suelos rocosos, poco profundos e infértiles, poco aptos para la agricultura tradicional. En los frutos se registró el peso, longitud axial y radial, pH, sólidos solubles totales (SST), azúcares reductores, proteínas y contenido de minerales. El peso promedio de frutos en las variedades cultivadas (20 g) resultó superior al de las silvestres (16 g). Las variedades cultivadas registraron en promedio los valores más altos de pH, SST, azúcares reductores y contenido de proteínas (3.3, 12.15º Brix, 0.38 g/100 g y 1.18 g/100 g, respectivamente) que las silvestres (3.0, 8.31º Brix, 0.24 g/100 g y 0.14 g/100 g, respectivamente). La productividad de la especie es aceptable (de 0.15 ton ha-1 a 5.0 ton ha-1) dado que requiere de un mínimo de manejo agronómico. Esta especie tiene un contenido nutrimental comparable al de las especies frutales más importantes; además, produce frutos frescos durante los meses secos de la primavera por lo que S. purpurea es fuente de agua y alimento para la fauna silvestre y doméstica. Estas características resaltan su importancia agronómica y ecológica para los ambientes tropicales y subtropicales en donde puede ser utilizada en programas de reforestación por su capacidad para desarrollarse en suelos rocosos infértiles, y en agroecosistemas en los que se practica agricultura de subsistencia. De hecho, el cultivo de S. purpurea puede ayudar a convertir suelos marginales en productivos.Production systems of Spondias purpurea (Anacardiaceae) in Central West México. Morphological, physical and chemical traits related with fruit quality characteristics of Spondias purpurea L. agroecosystems were studied in Central-West Mexico for wild and cultivated populations. Spondias purpurea regularly thrive in shallow, rocky infertile soils unsuitable for conventional crops. The weight, axial and radial length, pH, total soluble solids (SST), reducing sugars, proteins and mineral content in fruits were recorded. The mean fresh fruit weight was superior in the cultivated varieties (20 g) than in the wild (16 g). Similarly the highest values of pH, SST, reducing sugars and protein content (3.3, 12.15º Brix, 0.38 g/100 g and 1.18 g/100 g, respectively) were observed in the cultivated plantations compared with wild populations (3.0, 8.31º Brix, 0.24 g/100 g and 0.14 g/100 g, respectively). In cultivated plantations, productivity ranged from 0.15 ton ha-1 to 5.0 ton ha-1, and must be considered satisfactory, considering the low inputs of fertilizers and pesticides applied to orchards. The fruits of S. purpurea are similar in nutrimental content to more important commercial fruit species; it produces fresh fruits during the dry months of spring, when few fresh fruits are available in the local markets. In addition, S. purpurea is a source of water and food for domestic animals and wild fauna. These traits emphasize their agronomical and ecological importance for tropical and subtropical environments, where it can also be used in reforestation programs because it can grow in infertile rocky soils, and in agroecosystems inhabited by low income farmers that practice subsistence agriculture.
