Although the mortality rate of COVID-19 is low, the high numbers of infected people and those with post-COVID-19 symptoms represent a real problem for the health system. A high number of patients with COVID-19 or people recovered from COVID-19 suffer from a dry cough and/or myalgia. Interestingly, an imbalance in bradykinin was observed in COVID-19 patients, which might be due to the accumulation of bradykinin as a result of a reduction in the degradation of bradykinin. This finding inspired the idea of possible similitude between the dry cough that is induced by angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and the COVID-19-induced dry cough. Both of these types of cough are mediated, at least partially, by bradykinin. They both manifested as a persistent dry cough that is not responded to traditional dry cough remedies. However, several drugs were previously investigated for the treatment of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor-induced dry cough. Here, we hypothesized that such treatment might be useful in COVID-19-induced dry cough and other bradykinin-related symptoms such as generalized pain and myalgia. In this article, evidence was presented to support the use of indomethacin as a potential treatment of COVID-19-induced dry cough. The choice of indomethacin was based on its ability to suppress the cyclooxygenase enzyme while also lowering the level of the inflammatory mediator bradykinin. Furthermore, indomethacin has been shown to be effective in treating angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor-induced dry cough. Moreover, indomethacin is a long-established, low-cost, effective, and readily available medication. This article uses securitization theory to analyze the government’s measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic and discusses how the government’s increasing reliance on military figures and national security agencies influences the measures used to control the COVID-19 pandemic. This study finds that initially, the government seemed to be trying to de-securitize the issue, denying warnings that the virus might have existed undetected in Indonesia. Then, after the first cases were confirmed in March 2020, the government responded by securitizing the issue. The delay in the government’s response to COVID-19 caused the audience to not fully accept the government’s securitization efforts because public trust in the government’s measures was already low, while the means of emergency action taken by the government against the threat of COVID-19 are also limited. The government has also been overly reliant on influential military figures and national security agencies. The government also tended to downgrade the threats, lack transparency, and even use the pandemic to crack down on anti-government smears. This article concludes that the government needs to change their approach to COVID-19 measures and prioritize the human security dimension by not downgrading the threats and upholding transparency. Las semillas utilizadas en la evaluación de permeabilidad mostraron que transcurridas 10 horas alcanzaban un máximo de absorción de agua, la determinación de tinción de semillas tuvo mayor resultado con tetrazolio al 1.0%. La evaluación de los dos promotores tuvo como resultado el 33% de germinación aproximadamente con GA3 [500 mgL-1] y 18% con KNO3 [500 mgL-1]. Finalmente, de las dos pruebas que fueron realizadas se tuvo como resultado un 50% de semillas viables 28% de semillas viables no germinables, 22% germinables y estos resultados se obtuvieron mediante las pruebas de tinción y en la evaluación de los dos promotores de germinación. El objetivo de esta investigación fue estandarizar la técnica de inducción de poliploidía en vitroplantas de Aloe vera (L.). Se realizó un diseño experimental con dos grupos (control y experimental) a los cuales se les aplicó un estudio citogenético pre y postratamiento por tres generaciones consecutivas. Se evaluaron tres concentraciones de colchicina (0,05; 0,10 y 0,15%) y dos tiempos de exposición (48 y 72 horas). Las vitroplantas controles mantenidas en agua destilada (sin colchicina) por 48 y 72 (T1 y T2 respectivamente) y las tratadas con solución  de colchicina al 0,05% por 48 y 72 horas (T3 y T4 respectivamente), presentaron pocos cambios citogenéticos, siendo la mayoría de sus células diploides. Las plantas tratadas con solución de colchicina a 0,10% por 48 y 72 horas (T5 y T6 respectivamente), lograron la duplicación cromosómica en más del 50% del tejido. Las tratadas con una concentración de 0,15% por 48 horas (T7) mostraron tejido quimérico con un alto predominio de células poliploides y al aumentar el tiempo de exposición a 72 horas (T8), todas las células fueron poliploides, pero el desarrollo de estas plantas in vitro, fue anormal y con tejido necrótico. Las plantas con T5, se desarrollaron mejor que con el T6. The presence of antigenically disparate pulmonary viruses and the emergence of novel viruses assures the recurrence of lung damage with infection and resolution of each primary viral infection. Thus, there is a need to develop safe broad spectrum immunoprophylactic strategies capable of enhancing protective immune responses in the lung but which limits immune-mediated lung damage. The immunoprophylactic strategy described here utilizes a protein cage nanoparticle (PCN) to significantly accelerate clearance of diverse respiratory viruses after primary infection and also results in a host immune response that causes less lung damage.Mice pre-treated with PCN, independent of any specific viral antigens, were protected against both sub-lethal and lethal doses of two different influenza viruses, a mouse-adapted SARS-coronavirus, or mouse pneumovirus. Treatment with PCN significantly increased survival and was marked by enhanced viral clearance, accelerated induction of viral-specific antibody production, and significant decreases in morbidity and lung damage. The enhanced protection appears to be dependent upon the prior development of inducible bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue (iBALT) in the lung in response to the PCN treatment and to be mediated through CD4+ T cell and B cell dependent mechanisms.The immunoprophylactic strategy described utilizes an infection-independent induction of naturally occurring iBALT prior to infection by a pulmonary viral pathogen. This strategy non-specifically enhances primary immunity to respiratory viruses and is not restricted by the antigen specificities inherent in typical vaccination strategies. PCN treatment is asymptomatic in its application and importantly, ameliorates the damaging inflammation normally associated with the recruitment of immune responses into the lung. McCourt, On behalf of the CHOICE Study Consortia Description An account of the resource Abstract Background Induction of labour (IOL) is one of the most commonly performed interventions in maternity care, with outpatient cervical ripening increasingly offered as an option for women undergoing IOL. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the context of practice and the option of returning home for cervical ripening may now assume greater significance. This work aimed to examine whether and how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed practice around IOL in the UK. Method We used an online questionnaire to survey senior obstetricians and midwives at all 156 UK NHS Trusts and Boards that currently offer maternity services. Responses were analysed to produce descriptive statistics, with free text responses analysed using a conventional content analysis approach. Findings Responses were received from 92 of 156 UK Trusts and Boards, a 59% response rate. Many Trusts and Boards reported no change to their IOL practice, however 23% reported change in methods used for cervical ripening; 28% a change in criteria for home cervical ripening; 28% stated that more women were returning home during cervical ripening; and 24% noted changes to women’s response to recommendations for IOL. Much of the change was reported as happening in response to attempts to minimise hospital attendance and restrictions on birth partners accompanying women. Conclusions The pandemic has changed practice around induction of labour, although this varied significantly between NHS Trusts and Boards. There is a lack of formal evidence to support decision-making around outpatient cervical ripening: the basis on which changes were implemented and what evidence was used to inform decisions is not clear. En este trabajo, la industria de bioinsumos en Colombia fue caracterizada a partir de tres parámetros i. el análisis de los registros ante el Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario - ICA, ii. las patentes solicitadas ante la Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio - SIC y, iii. la solicitud de acceso a recurso genético, desde el 2004 hasta el año 2011 ante el Ministerio de Ambiente y desarrollo sostenible -MADS. En Colombia, se encontraron 111 registros de bioinsumos, destinados, principalmente, a cultivos ornamentales 24,7%, hortalizas 16,3% y cereales 13,2%. A nivel de patentes, se identificaron 13, de las cuales, 9 se encuentran dentro de la Clasificación Internacional de Patentes - IPC - reconocidas por la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económicos -OCDE- . La base de datos de acceso a recurso genético del MADS permitió identificar 16 solicitudes. Sólo un microorganismo (Bacillus thuringiensis) tuvo registro en las tres instituciones. El estudio permitió concluir que el desarrollo de bioinsumos en Colombia es incipiente, en el ejercicio de estimular investigación para el uso de la biodiversidad microbiana, así como los procesos de registro de patentes, alrededor de los procesos de producción.
