DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.18561/2179-5746/biotaamazonia.v3n1p100-108</text>

<text>Among several alternative agricultural systems have been developed, organic agriculture has deserved increasing interest from. The objective of this paper was comparing both organic (OS) and conventional (CS) tomato cropping systems for varieties Débora and Santa Clara, through an interdisciplinary study. The experiment was set up in a randomized blocks design with six replicates, in a dystrophic Ultisol plots measuring 25 ´ 17 m. Cropping procedures followed by either local conventional or organic growers practices recommendations. Fertilization in the OS was done with organic compost, single superphosphate, dolomitic limes (5L, 60 g, and 60 g per pit), and sprayed twice a week with biofertilizer. Fertilization in the CS was done with 200 g 4-14-8 (NPK) per pit and, after planting, 30 g N, 33 g K and 10.5 g P per pit; from 52 days after planting forth, plants were sprayed once a week with foliar fertilizer. In the CS, a blend of insecticides, fungicides and miticides was sprayed twice a week, after planting. In the OS, extracts of black pepper, garlic, and Eucalyptus; Bordeaux mixture, and biofertilizer, were applied twice a week to control diseases and pests. Tomato spotted wilt was the most important disease in the OS, resulting in smaller plant development, number of flower clusters and yield. In the CS, the disease was kept under control, and the population of thrips, the virus vector, occurred at lower levels than in the OS. Variety Santa Clara presented greater incidence of the viral disease, and for this reason had a poorer performance than 'Débora', especially in the OS. Occurrence of Liriomyza spp. was significantly smaller in the OS, possibly because of the greater frequency of Chrysoperla. The CS had smaller incidence of leaf spots caused by Septoria lycopersici and Xanthomonas vesicatoria. However, early blight and fruit rot caused by Alternaria solani occurred in larger numbers. No differences were observed with regard to the communities of fungi and bacteria in the phylloplane, and to the occurrence of weeds.

With continental dimensions, Brazil contains heterogeneous rural spaces, where diverse forms of social, economic and access to land organization are found. These, in turn, are related to the country´s colonization and land policy that benefited one category over another. This article aims to present a synthesis of the Brazilian rural space diversity, based on a bibliographical review of selected texts on the theme. The variety of rural spaces in Brazil found in contemporaneity brings relatively sharp ruralities in the way people establish their mode of producing space and reproducing themselves. In diverse rural contexts, with different characteristics and lifestyles, economic and socio-cultural relations are constituted in observance of the peculiarities of the place, whose relations are responsible for shaping the space, at the same time that they are shaped by the place in which they are established.</text>

ABSTRACT This is a work on the inhabitants of a community feeding practices quilombola (descendants of runaway slaves) of the Brazilian Amazon. The residents of this community, supported by a local community association, claimed possession of the land on which they live, defending the fact of being descendants of the ancient inhabitants of the quilombos (runaway slave dwellings), in accordance with article 68 of the 1988 Brazilian Federal Constitution. The land where they live are areas surrounded by cattle farms belonging to large landowners and influential men in the political life of the region. This means that the quilombolas have a space for family agriculture, former base of their economic activities, which means that many of them need to abandon these agricultural practices to work on neighbouring farms or cities. Generally, men as pawns and the woman in domestic service. The result is a reduction in the proportion of foods produced locally, that causes a change in the style of life and consumption of foods, which increasingly are purchased in the market; changes are made, thus in the representations and the daily feeding practices.</text>

The trial was carried out in 2003 in a vineyard of 'Tieta'. The objective was to evaluat the effects of plant growth regulator application on the cluster characteristics. The growth regulator used was the Stimulate witch consists in a mix of 0.09g L-1 of kinetin (cytokinin), 0.05g L-1 gibberellic acid (gibberellin) e 0.05mg L-1 of indolbutiric acid (auxin). The treatments consisted of the cluster dipping, fifteen days after bloom, in an aqueous solution containing 0.5% of the surfactant Natura'l Óleo, added five dosis of Stimulate®: 0, 28, 56, 84 e 112ml L-1. The width, length and mass of clusters, berries and rachis, and pedicel diameter were evaluated. The experimental design used was completely randomized blocks. The results showed that the mass of the cluster occurred by the increased of the number of berries per cluster and the mass of the rachis. The Stimulate® associated to the Natura'l Oil produced brown spots on the skins of berries undervaluating its quality, decreased its size and delaied the harvest.</text>

<text>This work is part of a more extensive study on the management of family farming activities in the municipality of Dom Pedrito-RS and aimed to discuss the challenges of logistics in the distribution of production from family farming, linked to participating farmers of Feira Livre de Dom Pedrito. To achieve the objectives of this work, a qualitative research was conducted through interviews with participatory observation in a multiple case study, performed in the first semester of 2018 and interpreted through textual discourse analysis. Sixteen family farmers with one main factor in common participated in this study: they commercialized their products at the Feira Livre de Dom Pedrito. In this location, through interviews, the main challenges faced by these farmers to market their products were pointed out. The main results highlight the deficiency in the road infrastructure connecting the interior of the municipality to the place of sale. That is, from the property to the fair held in the city center, mainly taking into account climatic factors such as rain and flooding. Logistics problems cause difficulties for Dom Pedrito family farmers. Some groups feel better infrastructure conditions and can maintain their production and marketing activities at the Fair. However, for other farmers, the problems faced as poor road conditions, lack of maintenance are serious on roads, lack of paving and weather factors. These conditions interfere with the aspect related to the Fair, sometimes preventing farmers to make their sales, resulting in loss of production, increased costs and decreased family income.</text>
