<text>The development of capitalism in farming has led to several transformations and papers which reflect on this social event. In the framework of a new rural life associated to a changing and highly- tech agriculture, this study is built on the basis of the analysis of the relationships which are established between men and women in three towns of the south of the province of Santa Fe, the core of the Pampa region. To achieve this aim, we have chosen three dimensions: the level of formal education, the areas of sociability, the household economy, the access to land and the inheritance practices. A new statistical sample of 1082 cases, together with observations, unstructured interviews and ethnographic records, have been the main input for a quality-quantity approach of the issues in question.

Evaluated variables were yield, harvest index, biomass production, attenuation coefficient, and radiation use efficiency. Results indicate that 2008 was the best year because yield, biomass, and radiation use efficiency were 1132.6, 3505 gm−2, and 0.79 g MJ−1, respectively. “Jiquipilco” was the genotype that exhibited the best adaptability to climatic conditions of the zone; thus, it is recommended to be grown on the studied zone.</text>

The main goal of this work was to evaluate the effect on agronomic characteristics of the lettuce when using different doses of cassava wastewater instead of mineral fertilizer. This study was conducted at the Departamento de Tecnologia Rural da Universidade Rural de Pernambuco, Recife, PE, from May to August 2010. The experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions in a completely randomized blocks, with six treatments and five repetitions. Following doses were used: 0, 5, 15, 25, 45 and 65 m³ ha-1. The lettuce cultivar Regina 2000 was used (one plant per pot) and leaf area, plant height, number of leaves, fresh leaf mass and dry leaf mass were evaluated for each dose of cassava wastewater. At the end of the experiment, the dose of 45 m³ ha-1 provided the best results by increasing plant height, leaf area, fresh and dry material. Thus, the cassava wastewater can be successfully used as a source of fertilizer for a lettuce crop if the adequate dose is used.</text>
