La pandemia actual por SARS-CoV-2 presenta desafíos específicos para los profesionales de salud en el campo de la atención sanitaria. En este contexto de emergencia, la comunicación de malas noticias toma especial relevancia por el modo particular en que debe llevarse a cabo: la necesidad de mantener distanciamiento sanitario y las restricciones de movilidad impuestas a la población general hacen que esta tarea deba ser realizada, muchas veces, de manera remota, en su mayoría mediante llamados telefónicos. Esto enfrenta a los profesionales a una serie de obstáculos particulares: a) la mayoría de ellos poseen escasa o nula formación sobre esta clase de habilidades comunicativas, b) la comunicación efectiva de malas noticias depende, en gran parte, del lenguaje corporal utilizado, ausente en este tipo de intercambios, y c) dado que este tipo de diálogo remoto no es recomendable -con excepción de circunstancias particulares como la actual- existe escasa literatura disponible para guiar a quienes deben cumplir esta tarea. Este manuscrito ofrece recomendaciones sobre pautas básicas para la comunicación remota de malas noticias por teléfono, en situaciones en las cuales no se pueda llevar a cabo esta tarea de forma presencial. Se presenta una propuesta estructurada en torno de cuatro “momentos” para orientar la transmisión de malas noticias a distancia, con el fin de mejorar los cuidados a pacientes, familiares y cuidadores durante este intercambio y también reducir el impacto negativo que este intercambio tiene sobre los profesionales de la salud.

Específicamente en las provincias del Carchi e Imbabura, en donde predominan la actividad agrícola como un abastecedor de alimentos para el mercado nacional. Las familias campesinas alcanzan la diversificación en su alimentación a través de la estrategia familiar alimentaria conformada por un conjunto de factores en los que destacan la producción para el autoconsumo y la comercialización de los alimentos, pero sobre todo las redes sociales y familiares (capital social). La agricultura familiar como proveedor central del abastecimiento al mercado nacional, además debe alimentar a la familia que la lleva a cabo.

Bats are source of coronaviruses closely related to the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) virus. Numerous studies have been carried out to identify new bat viruses related to SARS-coronavirus (bat-SARS-like CoVs) using a reverse-transcribed-polymerase chain reaction assay. However, a qualitative PCR could underestimate the prevalence of infection, affecting the epidemiological evaluation of bats in viral ecology. In this work an SYBR Green-real time PCR assay was developed for diagnosing infection with SARS-related coronaviruses from bat guano and was applied as screening tool in a survey carried out on 45 greater horseshoe bats (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) sampled in Italy in 2009. The assay showed high sensitivity and reproducibility. Its application on bats screening resulted in a prevalence of 42%. This method could be suitable as screening tool in epidemiological surveys about the presence of bat-SARS-like CoVs, consequently to obtain a more realistic scenario of the viral prevalence in the population.

En la actualidad la adaptación de las enseñanzas universitarias españolas se encuentra en un momento de inflexión, pues los años de crisis económica, los cambios sociodemográficos y el cambio de paradigma global hacen necesaria una revisión acerca de la eficiencia del modelo presente. La enseñanza geográfica debe asumir el rol que ya posee la disciplina a nivel mediático (geopolítica, cambio climático, riesgos, identidad y territorio, etc.), y convertirse en una ciencia de actualidad. La presente investigación plantea un nuevo planteamiento pedagógico en la asignatura de Geografía de Asia y África, dónde los contenidos tradicionales se completen y complementen con un análisis profundo de la realidad. Dicha propuesta busca huir del «descriptivismo» tradicional de las escuelas regionales y partir de una aproximación más multidisciplinar, intuitiva y racional de la realidad de un área que económica, política y socialmente se halla en constante transformación y es un actor fundamental en la humanidad.

El libro Cambio Climático y Emisiones Históricas. surge como fruto del proyecto de investigación ‘Justicia climática. El significado de las emisiones históricas’ llevado a cabo en la Universidad de Graz entre los años 2010 y 2013. Es fruto también de los últimos años de intenso y concienzudo trabajo de sus editores, Lukas Meyer y Pranay Sanklecha. El libro recoge la investigación novedosa de algunos de los mejores investigadores en justicia climática de diferentes universidades del mundo. Todos ellos comparten la hipótesis que da sentido conjunto al texto, a saber: que el cambio climático debe ser analizado desde el punto de vista de la justicia intergeneracional en sus diferentes dimensiones temporales. Por ello, la justicia climática debe comprender una reflexión tanto sobre las emisiones futuras permisibles, como sobre significado moral de las emisiones del pasado. Uno de los debates más importantes y extendidos en el campo de la justicia climática es el de la distribución justa de las cargas asociadas al cambio climático. El debate gira en torno a tres diferentes principios morales como el principio de ‘los contaminadores pagan’ (PCP), el principio de ‘los beneficiarios pagan’ (PBP) y el principio moral de ‘los que tienen recursos pagan’ (PRP). La ciudad de Rosario y su aglomerado urbano cuentan con
 una población aproximada de 1.100.000 habitantes, y se
 sitúa en la provincia de Santa Fe (Argentina). En esta ciudad
 la producción de la vivienda social se realiza básicamente
 desde los organismos públicos, registrándose también
 algunas experiencias gestionadas por cooperativas. En el
 contexto de crisis de la última década y por las condiciones
 de pobreza de los asentamientos irregulares surgen las
 iniciativas productivas (microemprendimientos) como una
 respuesta ante la falta de trabajo, contando con el apoyo de
 organismos municipales en Rosario. Este trabajo está
 centrado en proyectos de vivienda social vinculados a
 emprendimientos productivos, desarrollados por
 articulación de diversos actores sociales. Se toman como
 referencia distintas experiencias que vinculan el hábitat con
 iniciativas productivas para los sectores de bajos recursos:
 *Programa Agricultura urbana. *Programa Rosario Hábitat.
 *Cooperativas de viviendas. *Asistencia técnica de Colegios
 profesionales. La investigación se orienta a formular
 recomendaciones para la gestión participativa de la vivienda
 social y su articulación con emprendimientos productivos.
 Como parte de la investigación se prevé la organización de
 un Taller de capacitación, como instancia de formación para
 la gestión del hábitat promoviendo equipos
 multidisciplinarios para proyectos de vivienda social
 vinculados a iniciativas productivas.

Este artículo parte de una revisión de los conflictos socio-ambientales que han llevado a la pérdida de la seguridad y soberanía alimentaria en el Archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina (Colombia). El artículo se centra en el análisis de los saberes y prácticas agrícolas del pueblo raizal del archipiélago. Se argumenta que la producción agrícola en San Andrés y Providencia es viable, culturalmente relevante y necesaria para garantizar la soberanía alimentaria de las islas, dado que está basada en el profundo conocimiento de la biodiversidad agrícola local y el manejo sostenible de los suelos y el agua. La investigación se basa en el trabajo de campo intermitente por cinco meses con entrevistas semiestructuradas, visitas a parcelas y patios caseros, metodologías participativas como la cartografía social y revisión documental.

Resumen Los compuestos agroquímicos se han utilizado en la agricultura en las últimas décadas para evitar pérdidas por plagas, nutrir la tierra, aumentar el rendimiento y la calidad de los cultivos. Sin embargo, el uso de estas sustancias en muchas ocasiones representa una fuente de contaminación ambiental y riesgos a la salud. Por ello, han surgido nuevas alternativas en la producción alimentaria, como el uso de elicitores, para consolidar una agricultura más sostenible y sin efectos adversos a la salud del consumidor. Los elicitores pueden estimular el metabolismo propio de las plantas para producir compuestos que resultarán en rasgos agronómicos deseados, como metabolitos secundarios de uso nutracéutico. En el presente artículo se muestra la perspectiva científica y ética de proyectos de investigación en los cuales se emplean diferentes elicitores para sustituir el uso de agroquímicos.

This article approaches issues arising out of being in the middle of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Finland in March 2020, both from the point of view of the lived experience of caring for people in our conference setting, and through analysing the statements and actions of the Finnish government from the point of view of an ethics of care. It argues that an ethics of care approach is better equipped at dealing with thinking about and understanding complex life situations such as the spread of the pandemic than what the standardised taxonomy approaches offer. It further states that an ethics of care not only provides concepts and frameworks that help people grapple with challenging situations in an ethical manner, it also enables us to imagine how hospitality and solidarity can be envisioned anew.

Introducción: La pérdida del nitrógeno adicionado en fertilizantes a las plantaciones de palma aceitera (Elaeis guineensis), ocurre principalmente por arrastre pluvial o lixiviación de nitratos, los cuales impactan cuerpos de agua receptores y ecosistemas asociados. Las pérdidas pueden afectar el desarrollo sostenible de la actividad. Objetivo: Evaluamos el monitoreo de nitratos en drenajes agrícolas de un cultivo de palma aceitera, como herramienta para la toma de decisiones de aplicación del fertilizante y reducción de pérdidas. Metodología: Analizamos la concentración de nitratos en cuatro drenajes ubicados en suelo con cultivo de palma de distinta clase textural, con condiciones homogéneas de edad de la plantación, clima y tipo de fertilización, antes y después de eventos de fertilización. Estimamos la carga de nitratos, QNO3- (mgs-1), las diferencias estadísticas y de tendencia en los drenajes. Resultados: QNO3- aumenta después de la fertilización, pero existe una diferencia significativa en la varianza de los grupos (0,000033, alfa=0.05) determinada por la variación de QNO3- del drenaje ubicado en suelo de clase textural arcillosa (Q4). La QNO3- exhibe una velocidad de crecimiento más positiva y una disminución posterior más negativa en Q4 que en el drenaje de suelo de clase textural arenosa. Discusión: Las diferencias de QNO3- en los drenajes se relaciona con la clase textural del suelo drenado, el desarrollo de las raíces y la profundidad a la que suceden los procesos de lavado, asimilación, lixiviación y procesamiento de nitratos. Conclusión: El monitoreo de nitratos en los drenajes de este cultivo permite estimar la tendencia de QNO3- relacionada con la clase textural del suelo, y visualizar la velocidad de pérdidas por lixiviación o lavado pluvial. Recomendamos el monitoreo de QNO3- en los drenajes de palma aceitera para tomar decisiones sobre la aplicación reducida o retrasada de fertilizante con el fin de reducir pérdidas.
