It has been demonstrated that applying bio-products based on native rhizosphere micro-organisms in agriculture increases crop productivity. Working with native strains also improves their biological feasibility. Some microbial genera associated with the improved corn variety Francisco were isolated from Nitisol Rhodic, Cambisol Eutric-Humic and Cambisol Eutric soil from different Cuban regions using three isolation methods: the convencional method, the spermosphere model and the microcosm model. The isolated micro-organisms were classified by using classic techniques. The results showed that Pseudomonas, Azospirillum, Azotobacter, Bacillus and Streptomyces were part of the corn rhizosphere microbial community structure, constituting Pseudomonas, this being the most promi-nent populación. All three evaluated isolation methods were suitable for obtaining typical microbial populations; however, the Spermosphere and Microcosm Models were seen to be superior for this purpose as they allow micro-organisms able to live at the expense of crop's exuded roots to become isolated in plant-bacteria interaction. Key words: rhizosphere, corn, spermosphere model, microcosm model, pseudomona</text>

During the latter years, dry bean production in Costa Rica has lost competitiveness due to high production costs and lower import prices that lead to reconsider whether dry bean production should still be encouraged but also consider the social, environmental and cultural consequences entailed in this activity. This research was driven by a lack of documented formal data that could help visualize the sector’s social, environmental and economic aspects that bind together the professional unions of mainly cooperative and rural associations of small farmers in the cantons of Upala, Guatuso and Los Chiles of the Northern Huetar Zone, as well as those from the communities of Santa Cecilia and La Cruz in the Guanacaste province. To this end, a methodology known as the MESMIS Evaluating Framework was used. The most relevant conclusions point out that dry bean production is a familial activity with high vulnerability to social and economic factors associated with this activity, that can be directly related to the declaration by FAO of the year 2014 as the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) with the objective of increasing the visibility of family and small scale farming</text>

The current agri-food system subordinates agriculture and small retail (in the two ends of the food chain) to the agricultural inputs and food processing industries and to the large retail sector. The periurban agriculture also suffers the urban growth pressure that causes the deterioration and disappearance of the agrarian territory close to the cities, formerly the base of the urban food supply. In addition, markets, which had served as food entry point into the city for a long time, are now gradually losing sellers and consumers. The objective of this research is to explore the possibilities of an alliance between Madrid’s municipal markets and its periurban agrarian territory to favor proximity production and consumption, sizing both the farming territory’s capacity and the food demand that might be covered by the markets to evaluate scenarios for a possible territorialization of this alliance.</text>
