Although zoonotic transmission was postulated, virological and serological finding suggest that the dromedary camels act as the potential reservoirs of MERS-CoV infection to humans. As October 2014, a totally 855 confirmed cases with 333 related deaths were reported to WHO. All cases occurred in or epidemiologically linked to affected countries. The virus ability to induce a pandemic attack is limited. The clinical presentations vary and range from asymptomatic infection to severe respiratory disease and death. However, most severe disease occurs in elderly and in those with underlying conditions. Infection prevention and control measures are critical to prevent the possible spread of MERS-CoV infection is health care facilities and in the community. The WHO encourages all member states to perform surveillance of patients with acute severe respiratory infection and to carefully monitor any unusual patterns. This paper aims to review the current key characteristics of MERS-CoV infection in human and update the WHO recommendations about this illness. Environmental impacts due to farming activities are examined emphasising the need of promoting further research and publication of findings on the links between environment and agriculture. The complexity of the factors that determine farming sustainability requires a systematic, holistic, participative and integrated approach. Indicators are likely to contribute to the development of sustainable farming systems. Understanding environmental, social and economic circumstances is required to promote sustainability. La situación es crítica por la cantidad de minifundistas que producen cultivos de papa, en altas pendientes y con tecnologías inapropiadas. La Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia ha generado información valiosa sobre efectos ambientales y económicos de sistemas de labranza de conservación (LC) en este cultivo, mediante investigaciones que evalúan integralmente cambios en condiciones físicas del suelo, desarrollo y rendimiento del cultivo y comportamiento financiero. Se reportan dos experimentos en los cuales se compararon sistemas de labranza convencional basados en arados de discos y rotatorio, frente a sistemas de LC para la ladera y el altiplano, incluyendo tracción mecánica y animal. Los resultados muestran que en siembra directa (SD) la estabilidad estructural del suelo se mantuvo constante, el contenido promedio de humedad aumentó entre 2% y 5% frente a los demás tratamientos de labranza y la compactación del suelo (relativamente alta, pero con baja variabilidad) no evidenció efectos nocivos para el cultivo. SD redujo costos de mecanización, e incrementó los rendimientos entre 3% y 34% y la rentabilidad entre 2% y 14% frente al sistema convencional (comúnmente usado por el productor). Esto confirma que los sistemas de LC, adaptados a las diferentes condiciones agroecológicas, son opciones técnicamente viables que posibilitan la sostenibilidad ambiental y económica de la producción agrícola en la región. Los mejores resultados se obtuvieron con las briquetas del lote A: 45,2 ± 0,4 mm diámetro y 101 ± 3 mm longitud; friabilidad < 1 %; humedad 9,4 ± 0,5 %; densidad 0,45 ± 0,01 g/ml; resistencia al aplastamiento 4,5 x 104 ± 0,7 x 104 kg/m2; poder calorífico 20.799 kJ/kg. Se estimó la capacidad de aislamiento térmico a 41,6 ± 0,4 °C y 57,3 ± 0,1 °C; en el primer caso, la superficie de las briquetas se mantuvo en 29,0 ± 0,4 °C y en el segundo, en 34,7 ± 0,8 °C. Los resultados indican que el material obtenido es apto para ser utilizado en revestimiento de interiores, aislante térmico, elemento decorativo o de expresión artística. La implementación de procesos productivos a partir de esta metodología contribuiría a la disminución del deterioro ambiental y mitigación del cambio climático, debido a que retarda la devolución a la atmósfera del CO2 fijado en los procesos de producción forestal. Therefore, the objective of this review is to summarize emerging evidence on the vertical transmission of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2. We conducted a systematic search in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and CENTRAL. Likewise, a search for preprint publications was conducted using MedRxiv and Research Square. Studies that addressed vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (concept) among pregnant women infected by Covid-19 (population) in any setting (community, hospital, or home) in any country or context were considered for inclusion. Any types of studies or reports published between December 2019 and September 2020 addressing the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on pregnant women and their newborn babies were included. Studies were screened for eligibility against the inclusion criteria for the review by two reviewers. We identified 51 studies reporting 336 newborns screened for COVID-19. From the 336 newborns screened for COVID-19, only 15 (4.4%) were positive for throat swab RT-PCR. All neonates with positive throat swab RT-PCR were delivered by cesarean section. Among neonates with throat swab SARS-CoV-2 positive only five (33.3%) had concomitant placenta, amniotic fluid, and cord blood samples tested, of which only one amniotic fluid sample is positive for RT PCR. Five neonates had elevated IgG and IgM but without intrauterine tissue tested. Four neonates had chest imaging suggestive of COVID-19 pneumonia. Currently there is not enough evidence on vertical virologic transmission of COVID-19 infection during the third trimester of pregnancy. Additionally, there is no evidence to support cesarean delivery, abstaining from breast feeding nor mother and infant separation. Further research involving an adequate sample size of breast milk, placenta, amniotic fluid, and cord blood to ascertain the possibility of vertical transmission and breast milk transfer is needed.
