In terms of Agronomy courses, there is a tendency for themes related to agroecology and university extension come to discussions among students, professors, professionals and society in general. Thus, this paper reports experiences of the 16th edition of the Regional Meeting of Agronomy students (EREA), promoting discussion about the main topics addressed in the professional training of Agronomy. It is considered the need to broaden the discussion about professionals’ capacitation who can overcome the limits and problematics about the Agronomy hegemonic conception. It is concluded that the regional meetings of students of Agronomy are consecrated as a space for dialogue and critical formation within the whole national student movement, concomitantly contributing to the social and cultural exchange between students from different regions and their knowledge of dynamics of social movements.

Abstract: Four contributions make up this CIUR Journal: In the first one Marian Simon and Jon Sanz explain that for those social movements engaged in food sovereignty, it is strategic to influence spatial planning instruments, as it would leverage the reorganization of the production and the consumption in the food system. Luis Alberto Bermejo and Fátima Cubas explain the conflicts generated by wilderness protection plans, which restrict traditional uses. The difficulties for grazing in those areas fragmented by the urban expansion in La Orotava (Tenerife) has been dealt with the institutional mediation for new management plans. From another perspective and looking at food struggles in urban peripheries in Lisbon (Portugal) Inés Morales reflects on the contradictions of urbanization plans and the strategies of food movements and the contribution of both to the current processes of 'planned dispossession' and gentrification. Finally, Marta Sánchez presents the strategies of the peasant communities of El Chaco (Argentina). Land use and planning in the Chaco region are subordinated to geopolitical and economic interests, as a consequence of the extractive matrix of the  dominant model of development.</text>

Abstract: This is the second CIUR dedicated to the International Conference in Agroecology, OSALA, 2019. Pablo Saralegui and Mariagiulia Constanzo explain the potential of alternative agroecological consumption models in Madrid and the risk for them to contribute to gentrification phenomena. The need to organize collectively the politized consumption, which they mentioned in their paper,  is as well analysed by Alberto Mataran, Fiorella Russo and Jose Lopez Medina, who present the case of four agroecological self-employment experiences in Granada, linked to their ‘Ecomercado’ (eco-market). These experiences constitute examples of the transition at small scale which rebuild bonds with the territory and recover spaces for participatory processes. If we turn the  look from the city to the countryside, as Rufino Acosta-Naranjo, Laura Amores-Lemus and Alfonso de España-Rigo do, we observe how agroecology is mainly an urban phenomenon. The case presented by them, ‘Activa Valverde’, in Extremadura, allows to explore the role of universities in reverting the depopulatiton of rural areas in Spain. The experience of ‘Ex-tiercol’, which is as well in Extremadura region, and based on the collective work of rural youngsters, provides a complementary insight in the issue. Altogether, this issue of CIUR covers urban and rural initiatives which re-organize the flows of the food systems by rebuilding more solidarian relationships between the countryside and the city.</text>
