<text>The rapid outbreak of the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in China followed by its spread around the world poses a serious global concern for public health. To this date, no specific drugs or vaccines are available to treat SARS-CoV-2 despite its close relation to the SARS-CoV virus that caused a similar epidemic in 2003. Thus, there remains an urgent need for the identification and development of specific antiviral therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2. To conquer viral infections, the inhibition of proteases essential for proteolytic processing of viral polyproteins is a conventional therapeutic strategy. In order to find novel inhibitors, we computationally screened a compound library of over 606 million compounds for binding at the recently solved crystal structure of the main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2. A screening of such a vast chemical space for SARS-CoV-2 Mpro inhibitors has not been reported before. After shape screening, two docking protocols were applied followed by the determination of molecular descriptors relevant for pharmacokinetics to narrow down the number of initial hits. Next, molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to validate the stability of docked binding modes and comprehensively quantify ligand binding energies. After evaluation of potential off-target binding, we report a list of 12 purchasable compounds, with binding affinity to the target protease that is predicted to be more favorable than that of the cocrystallized peptidomimetic compound. In order to quickly advise ongoing therapeutic intervention for patients, we evaluated approved antiviral drugs and other protease inhibitors to provide a list of nine compounds for drug repurposing. Furthermore, we identified the natural compounds (−)-taxifolin and rhamnetin as potential inhibitors of Mpro. Rhamnetin is already commercially available in pharmacies.</text>

<text>Abstract Background In the absence of medical treatment and vaccination, individual behaviours are key to curbing the spread of COVID-19. Here we describe efforts to collect attitudinal and behavioural data and disseminate insights to increase situational awareness and inform interventions. Methods We developed a rapid data collection and monitoring system based on a cross-national online survey, the “COVID-19 Health Behavior Survey”. Respondent recruitment occurred via targeted Facebook advertisements in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We investigated how the threat perceptions of COVID-19, the confidence in the preparedness of organisations to deal with the pandemic, and the adoption of preventive and social distancing behaviours are associated with respondents’ demographic characteristics. Results We analysed 71,612 questionnaires collected between March 13-April 19, 2020. We found substantial spatio-temporal heterogeneity across countries at different stages of the pandemic and with different control strategies in place. Respondents rapidly adopted the use of face masks when they were not yet mandatory. We observed a clear pattern in threat perceptions, sharply increasing from a personal level to national and global levels. Although personal threat perceptions were comparatively low, all respondents significantly increased hand hygiene. We found gender-specific patterns: women showed higher threat perceptions, lower confidence in the healthcare system, and were more likely to adopt preventive behaviours. Finally, we also found that older people perceived higher threat to themselves, while all respondents were strongly concerned about their family. Conclusions Rapid population surveys conducted via Facebook allow us to monitor behavioural changes, adoption of protective measures, and compliance with recommended practices. As the pandemic progresses and new waves of infections are a threatening reality, timely insights from behavioural and attitudinal data are crucial to guide the decision-making process.</text>

<text>This study describes the bovine milk-producing farms of Rondon do Pará, state of Pará, with the aim of assisting institutional actions and public policies that support the development of the milk production chain. The data were collected from interviews, using questionnaires administered in 55 dairy farms, which together represent 43.3% of the herd of milking cows in the municipality. We collected information on producers, characteristics of the milk-producing farms, dairy exploitation, machines and equipment, facilities and improvements, herd health, milking practices, and herd management. The average age of the interviewees in Rondon do Pará was 57.41 years. The producers had low education levels, with a prevalence of incomplete elementary education. Manual milking was used in 98% of the farms. When it came to hygiene practices, less than 2% of the milkers washed their hands before milk collection, and only 10% cleaned the teats of the cows. Animals were fed almost exclusively on pasture in the rainy season, given that only 2% of the producers complemented the diet with forage. Dairy production involved low technological levels, as the mean productivity was 5.5 L cow -1 day -1. The adoption of technological innovations in herd management may enable the growth and development of the activity in the municipality, and may make producers aware of the principles of sustainability.</text>

The experiment was installed in the Experimental Farm of the Uberaba University, in one of the modules of plastic greenhouse of 768 m². Treatments consisted of two types of fertigation: conventional chemical fertigation and with biofertilizers. Also, two fertigation frequencies were studied for each type: at intervals of one and seven days. The best yields were obtained with the daily fertilizer application, with superiority for the biofertilizers, with production of 45.5 t ha-1 of fruits. This was better than mineral products, which produced 42.4 t ha-1. The weekly fertigation had lower productivities, and in this case, the biofertilizers also surpassed the chemical, on an average by 2.0 t ha-1. It was also observed that the biofertilizers delayed the crop cycle by about 8 days, compared to chemical fertigation. In spite of prolongation of crop cycle, it can be concluded that biofertilizers are efficient in nutrition of melon, with similar or even higher yields in comparison to those obtained by mineral products.</text>
