                <text>As multiple mechanisms account for polyphenol-induced cytotoxicity, the development of structure-activity relationships (SARs) may facilitate research on cancer therapy. We studied SARs of representatives of 10 polyphenol structural types: (+)-catechin (1), (-)-epicatechin (2), (-)-epigallocatechin (3), (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (4), gallic acid (5), procyanidin B2 (6), procyanidin B3 (7), procyanidin B4 (8), procyanidin C1 (9), and procyanidin C2 (10). Amongst them, the polyphenols containing a pyrogallol moiety (3-5) showed the most potent cytotoxicic activity. These compounds evoked a typical DNA-laddering phenomenon in HEK293T, which indicated that the induction of apoptosis at least partly mediates their cytotoxic activity. Anti-oxidative capacity of compounds 3-5 were comparable to those of the trimers 9 and 10, which were not cytotoxic. Therefore, we suggest that pyrogallol moiety is important for fitting of polyphenols to their putative target molecule(s) in non-oxidative mechanism.</text>

                <text>COVID-19 has led to the enormous rise of medical wastes throughout the world, and these have mainly been generated from hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare establishments. This creates an additional challenge in medical waste management, particularly in developing countries. Improper managing of medical waste may have serious public health issues and a significant impact on the environment. There are currently three disinfection technologies, namely incineration, chemical and physical processes, that are available to treat COVID-19 medical waste (CMW). This study focuses on thermochemical process, particularly pyrolysis process to treat the medical waste. Pyrolysis is a process that utilizes the thermal instability of organic components in medical waste to convert them into valuable products. Besides, the technique is environmentally friendly, more efficient and cost-effective, requires less landfill capacity, and causes lower pollution. The current pandemic situation generates a large amount of plastic medical wastes, which mainly consists of polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, and nylon. These plastic wastes can be converted into valuable energy products like oil, gas and char through pyrolysis process. This review provides detailed information about CMW handling, treatment, valuable product generation, and proper discharge into the open environment.</text>

                <text>With the outbreak of COVID-19, people’s demand for using the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) for physical health monitoring has increased dramatically. The considerable amount of data requires stable, reliable, and real-time transmission, which has become an urgent problem to be solved. This paper constructs a health monitoring-enabled IoMT network which is composed of several users carrying wearable devices and a coordinator. One of the important problems for the proposed network is the unstable and inefficient transmission of data packets caused by node congestion and link breakage in the routing process. Based on these, we propose a Q-learning-based dynamic routing selection (QDRS) algorithm. First, a mathematical model of path optimization and a solution named Global Routing selection with high Credibility and Stability (GRCS) is proposed to select the optimal path globally. However, during the data transmission through the optimal path, the node and link status may change, causing packet loss or retransmission. This is a problem not considered by standard routing algorithms. Therefore, this paper proposes a local link dynamic adjustment scheme based on GRCS, using the Q-learning algorithm to select the optimal next-hop node for each intermediate forwarding node. If the selected node is not the same as the original path, the chosen node replaces the downstream node in the original path and so corrects the optimal path in time. This paper considers the congestion state, remaining energy, and mobility of the node when selecting the path and considers the network state changes during packet transmission, which is the most significant innovation of this paper. The simulation results show that compared with other similar algorithms, the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the packet forwarding rate without seriously affecting the network energy consumption and delay.</text>

                <text>The recent outbreak exposed doctors to a new challenge: treating people without any scientific evidence. All molecules combined in treatment schedules were merged on the basis of weak and anecdotal data so, the recommendations are constantly changing. In this context it is either mandatory for clinicians focusing on the different treatment options and on probable side effects of each molecules. It is well acquired that among elderly within same age group and strain, the outcome will differ according to each patient’s frailty. Moreover, old and frail people are particularly exposed to a double risk: the first one is the age-related mortality and the second one the susceptibility (also age related too) to side effects. Aim of our paper is reporting our experience in reducing toxicity with a constant action of scientific update and subsequent modification in clinical management protocols.                 <text>Abstract Background The interaction between a transcription factor and DNA motif (cis-acting element) is an important regulatory step in gene regulation. Comprehensive genome-wide methods have been developed to characterize protein-DNA interactions. Recently, the universal protein binding microarray (PBM) was introduced to determine if a DNA motif interacts with proteins in a genome-wide manner. Results We facilitated the PBM technology using a DsRed fluorescent protein and a concatenated sequence of oligonucleotides. The PBM was designed in such a way that target probes were synthesized as quadruples of all possible 9-mer combinations, permitting unequivocal interpretation of the cis-acting elements. The complimentary DNA strands of the features were synthesized with a primer and DNA polymerase on microarray slides. Proteins were labeled via N-terminal fusion with DsRed fluorescent protein, which circumvents the need for a multi-step incubation. The PBM presented herein confirmed the well-known DNA binding sequences of Cbf1 and CBF1/DREB1B, and it was also applied to elucidate the unidentified cis-acting element of the OsNAC6 rice transcription factor. Conclusion Our method demonstrated PBM can be conveniently performed by adopting: (1) quadruple 9-mers may increase protein-DNA binding interactions in the microarray, and (2) a one-step incubation shortens the wash and hybridization steps. This technology will facilitate greater understanding of genome-wide interactions between proteins and DNA.</text>

                <text>Este artigo tem o objetivo de estudar o Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento da Agricultura Familiar (Pronaf) nas suas linhas de crédito para custeio e investimento, com o intuito de investigar suas relações e interfaces com a agricultura familiar, utilizando-se de um estudo no Rio Grande do Sul (microrregião do Médio Alto Uruguai). A pergunta a ser respondia é: qual o tipo de fortalecimento que o Pronaf gera junto aos agricultores familiares? Para isso, se usa como base uma metodologia qualitativa, com a utilização de entrevistas semiestruturadas e se apoia nas argumentações com dados secundários de diversas fontes e pesquisas. Conclui-se que o Programa tem lógica dupla. De um lado, ele está financiando as atividades de produção habituais dos agricultores, como grãos e commodities agrícolas. De outro, há um processo de diversificação econômica das atividades produtivas, das pequenas criações, cultivos e de alimentos básicos ao consumo das famílias.This article aims to study the National Programme for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) in their credit lines for costing and investment, in order to investigate their relationships and interfaces with the family farm, using it for a study in Rio Grande do Sul (Middle High Uruguay microregion). The question to be answered is: what kind of building that is generating Pronaf with family farmers? To do this, it was used a methodology based on qualitative, using semi-structured interviews and underpinned by arguments with secondary data from various sources and research. It is concluded that the program has a dual logic. On the one hand, it is financing production activities usual for farmers, such as grain and agricultural commodities. On the other hand, there is a process of economic diversification of productive activities, small livestock, crops and basic food for household consumption.</text>

                <text>O estudo teve como objetivo estimar o custo de produção do jumento e contextualizar com a condição socioeconômica da região semiárida brasileira. Foi proposto um modelo de estudo no qual foram considerados os custos de manutenção e produção animal, admitindo que o rebanho já existisse na propriedade com utilização das instalações disponíveis. O ciclo de produção do jumento foi estimado em 36 meses, com rebanho inicial de 100 matrizes e cinco reprodutores. Para a estimativa de produção de forragem, foram consideradas pastagens nativas da região semiárida. Foi estimado o custo de produção do jumento em US$ 258,00/ano. Entretanto, quando o jumento está integrado à unidade produtiva do segmento da agricultura familiar, esse animal deve ser considerado como ativo de produção (tração, carga e transporte). Diante da crescente demanda da pele de jumentos no mercado internacional, da ausência de políticas públicas de proteção e bem-estar desses animais, e mesmo considerando a possibilidade de integrá-los ao sistema de agricultura familiar, permanece a pergunta: quanto tempo vai levar até que os jumentos nordestinos sejam extintos? Estimar o custo unitário da produção de jumentos e considerá-los como um ativo essencial de produção na agricultura familiar pode ser um ponto de partida para diminuir seu abandono às consequências da exploração de pele.</text>

                <text>O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade biológica do solo em um sistema de policultivo comparado com outros sistemas de uso do solo, em áreas localizadas na região do semiárido baiano. As avaliações foram realizadas em áreas mantidas sob três diferentes sistemas de uso do solo: plantio convencional, caatinga e policultivo. As amostras foram coletadas em um transecto com 5 pontos, espaçados de 5 metros, à uma profundidade de 0 - 0,1 m. Dentro de cada local, o delineamento foi o inteiramente casualizado, com três tratamentos (uso do solo) e cinco repetições. Foi realizada a análise de variância e aplicou-se o teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. Foram avaliados dois parâmetros de qualidade biológica do solo: a atividade microbiana (AM) ou respiração basal e carbono da biomassa microbiana (CBM). O sistema de uso caatinga foi o que apresentou maior CBM, com incrementos de 104% e 244% em Cafarnaum e 69% e 499% em Umburanas, comparado aos sistemas policultivo e convencional, respectivamente. Quanto a AM, o sistema policultivo apresentou acréscimos de 164% e 414% em Cafarnaum e 97% e 360% em Umburanas, comparado aos sistemas caatinga e convencional, respectivamente. O teor de carbono da biomassa microbiana no solo do bioma caatinga é maior do que nos sistemas policultivo e convencional. Entretanto, a atividade microbiana do solo no sistema de policultivo é maior comparada com os outros dois sistemas de cultivo. A qualidade biológica do solo no sistema policultivo e bioma caatinga se sobressaem em relação ao sistema convencional na região semiárida da Bahia.</text>
