Los flebótomos desde el punto de vista de salud pública son especialmente conocidos como los únicos insectos vectores de las leishmaniasis y demuestran una interesante biodiversidad en algunas zonas como la cordillera de los Andes en Suramérica. Este estudio presenta las especies de flebótomos organizadas por municipios y zonas endémicas que pueden encontrarse en el departamento de Santander, ubicado sobre la cordillera oriental andina en Colombia. Objetivo. Presentar una actualización del inventario de las especies del género Lutzomyia en el departamento de Santander,señalar la distribución y discutir algunos aspectos de la ecología de las especies de mayor importancia en salud pública. Materiales y métodos. Durante 1998 a 2001 en 12 municipios se realizaron capturas de flebótomos utilizando trampas de luz tipo CDC miniatura, entre las 19:00-6:00 horas, también capturas con cebo humano protegido utilizando aspiradores manuales entre las 18:00-20:00 horas, ocasionalmente aspiración directa sobre troncos de árboles entre las 8:00-11:00 horas y capturas de flebótomos en reposo sobre las paredes en horario diurno. Resultados. Se capturaron un total de 3.972 flebótomos distribuidos en 41 especies; de éstas, 16 especies son nuevos registros para esta región del país. En las zonas consideradas endémicas para leishmaniasis tegumentaria americana se destacaron por su abundancia, presencia en el intradomicilio e importancia epidemiológica L. gomezi, L. trapidoi, L. panamensis, L. ovallesi y L. yuilli yuilli. En las zonas de leishmaniasis visceral americana predominó L. longipalpis. Se puede disminuir el impacto mediante el uso de cultivos forrajeros como suplementos generados con el uso de abonos verdes. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar el aporte de nitrógeno de leguminosas en la producción de forraje de maíz. Durante los años 2013 a 2014, en el Caribe Seco Colombiano, se establecieron tres experimentos con siete niveles de nitrógeno (N) (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 y 200 kg/ha) y la incorporación de Canavalia brasiliensis (CIAT 17009), Vigna unguiculata (CIAT 4294), Clitoria ternatea (CIAT 21815), Canavalia ensiformis (CIAT 21826) y Lablab purpureus (CIAT 22656), en un diseño de bloques al azar. C. ensiformis presentó el mayor aporte de N (151 kg/ha) y V. unguiculata (35 kg/ha) el menor. La aplicación de 200 kg de N y la incorporación de C. brasiliensis y C. ensiformis no mostró diferencias en el rendimiento de biomasa de maíz. La eficiencia de uso de N del maíz fue del 31-84%, reducida con aumento en la dosis de N. Los niveles de NO3 en el suelo variaron entre 20 y 41 mg/kg al momento de la cosecha, sugiriendo que una proporción del N aportado por la leguminosa no fue asimilado por el cultivo de maíz. La relación C:N fue 11,63 en las leguminosas y 23,94 en las arvenses. El carbono orgánico en el suelo aumentó en 22% con abonos verdes, los mayores contenidos (0,70%) fueron obtenidos con L. purpureus. Las leguminosas C. ensiformis, C. brasiliensis y L. purpureus mostraron alto potencial para aportar N, C y conservar humedad del suelo. Tradicionalmente, es propagado por semillas y estacas, y enfrenta problemas de heterogeneidad y calidad de material de siembra.  En esta investigación se desarrolló un protocolo para la micropropagación in vitro del tomate de árbol criollo del fenotipo naranja, proveniente de Costa Rica, el cual presenta potencial para la diversificación agrícola y la agroindustria. Se evaluaron dos tratamientos de desinfección in vitro con variaciones en la concentración del Ca(ClO)2 2,5% y 5,0% (i.a 75%), tres tratamientos para la multiplicación in vitro del material con diferentes reguladores de crecimiento y concentración de sales MS (1962), y seis tratamientos para el enraizamiento in vitro con diversos reguladores de crecimiento y gelificantes.  Se determinó que la desinfección con 2,5% de Ca(ClO)2 fue la mejor para el establecimiento in vitro; el mejor medio de cultivo para la micropropagación del material fue el M1, compuesto por sales MS(1962) al 100%, sacarosa al 3%, phytagel® 1,8g/L, 0,5mg/L de AG3, 0,25mg/L de BAP y 2,0 mg/L de PaCa, el cual presentó el mejor balance entre el número promedio de brotación/explante y el número promedio de entrenudos/explante, sin formación excesiva de callo, mientras que el medio de cultivo E5, constituido por sales MS(1962) al 100%, agar 6,0g/L y sacarosa al 3%, sin reguladores del crecimiento y el medio de cultivo E6, que incluía las sales MS(1962) al 100%, agar 8,0g/L y sacarosa al 3%, sin reguladores del crecimiento, mostraron el periodo más corto para la formación de raíces, el mayor número promedio de raíces y la mayor longitud promedio de raíz y tallo. Gustavo Description An account of the resource This contribution presents the plant-communities characterized in the trayect between La Plata (Huila) and the crater of the Puracé volcano. The methodology followed in this study is that proposed in the Zurich-Montpellier school (BRAUN-BLANQUET, 1979). The profile of vegetation includs plant-communities of the jungle-type which are pluri-stratified on Ecuatorial and sub-Andean life zones and plantcommunities with a single stratification (upper Paramo belt). In the characterization of the plant-communities described was taken of the physiognomy (the structure as an expression of abiotic conditions).  Dates about plant-density in the arboreal stratum and preliminary characteristics of the soil in some of the places inventaried also are provided.En esta contribución se caracterizan las comunidades vegetales que se establecen en el trayecto entre La Plata (Huila) y el cráter del volcán Puracé.  La metodología que se siguió es la de la escuela Zurich-Montpellier (BRAUN-BLANQUET, 1979). El perfil de vegetación incluye comunidades de tipo selvático pluriestratificadas, en las regiones de vida Ecuatorial y sub-Andina y comunidades uniestratificadas en la franja del super-páramo. Se colocó especial énfasis en el aspecto estructural (fisionomía) de la vegetación y con base en los resultados obtenidos se recomiendan límites para la distribución de los estratos o arreglo en sentido vertical dentro de una fitocenosis determinada. Se suministran también datos sobre la densidad en los estratos altos y sobre las características preliminares de los suelos en algunos de los sitios muestreados.
