This article reports the results of a research about the sustainability of extractive farmers in the Atlantic slopes of Rio Grande do Sul. The extractive economy at issue is related to a species usually known as leather fern (Rumohra adiantiformis (G.Forest.) Ching). It is estimated that 3,000 families in the region perform this non-regulated activity, which is their only source of income. The sustainability degree of farmers was calculated from information related to environmental, social and economic dimensions, and to productivity, stability, equity, resilience, and autonomy criteria. The analysis focused on the comparison among the Indexes Related to Dimension (IRD), Criteria (IRC) and Sustainability (IRS) of each kind of production system. The results pointed to the existence of four kinds of production systems, and three of them were included in this research. The sustainability indexes showed that the production system type 3 was the most sustainable, followed by type 2 and, finally, type 1.</text>

<text>Household food insecurity (HFI) may increase obesity risk, but results are not consistent across the life course or between developed/underdeveloped settings. The objective of this paper is to review findings from previous analyses in Brazil among adult women, female adolescents, and children up to five. Data were derived from the 2006 Brazilian Demographic and Health Survey. Associations between HFI (measured with the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale) and excess weight/obesity were investigated through Poisson regression models. While severe HFI was associated with obesity risk among adult women (PR: 1.49; 95%CI: 1.17-1.90), moderate HFI was associated with excess weight among female adolescents (PR: 1.96; 95%CI: 1.18-3.27). There was no association between HFI and obesity among children (either boys or girls). The nutrition transition in Brazil may be shaping the differential deleterious effect of HFI on body fat accumulation across the life course; the association is already evident among female adolescents and adult women but still not among children. <text>Journalistic discourse always is result of specific conditions of production that anchor the sayings about events, themes, problems and diverse individuals. In this research, we reflect especially on conditions of production that allow the reiteration of meanings about climate change in Superinteressante magazine. In our interpretive action, we mapped sayings about the climate issues constructed by the publication between 1995 and 2015. Based on the theoretical-methodological contributions of Discourse Analysis (AD), we located four Discursive Formations (DF) and ten Paraphrases Networks (PN) about climate change. The discussion of such categories points out how this magazine works, in its own discourse, the different dimensions of climate change.</text>
