<text>The purpose of this study was to assess the cytotoxic effect of the non-fractionated aqueous extract of A. sylvaticus mushroom in cultures of non-tumor cells (NIH3T3) and tumor cells (OSCC-3). The cells were maintained in DMEN cell culture medium added of 10% of fetal bovine serum and 1% antibiotic. For the cytotoxicity test we prepared the aqueous mushroom extract at concentrations of 0.01 mg.ml-1, 0.02 mg.ml-1, 0.04 mg.ml-1, 0.08 mg.ml-1, 0.16 mg.ml-1, and 0.32 mg.ml-1. For the culture, 2 x 10(5) cells/ml was deposited in 96-well microplates during 24 hour incubation with subsequent exchange of medium by another containing the mushroom concentrations. After 24 hour incubation the medium was discarded and 100 ml of tetrazolium blue (MTT) was added at a concentration of 5 mg.ml-1. The microplates were incubated for 2 h at 37º C. Spectrophotometric analysis was performed using 570 nm wavelength. From the values of the optical densities we determined the drug concentration capable of reducing cell viability by 50%. Therefore, the mushroom A. sylvaticus, at all concentrations tested, did not show cytotoxic effects, once the inhibitory concentration (IC50) obtained for tumor cells OSCC-3 was 0.06194 mg.ml-1, and the IC50 checked for non-tumor cells NIH3T3 was 0,06468 mg.ml-1. This test made it possible to determine that A. sylvaticus mushroom has no cytotoxic effects, suggesting its use safe for human consumption.</text>

</text>

<text>The present paper is the first in a series of publications that aim to share the results of an ongoing research project that explores the interconnection possibilities, both in theory and application, of the fields of ecofeminism and queer ecologies. This particular chapter offers a brief survey of the first of these fields: ecofeminism. The author tries to provide a brief critical look into the main tenets and evolution of the field.

<text>Objectives. To evaluate food and nutrition security in families of Los Morochucos district in Ayacucho, Peru. Materials and methods. A study based on interpretation of available information from official sources and surveys carried out to gather information not recorded in these sources. Sampling was stratified and two-staged comprising 128 families with at least one child under 12 years. The variables were the level of food security, family perception of their situation of availability of and access to food, exclusive breastfeeding, feeding during episodes of diarrhea, frequency of food consumption, consumption of safe water, hand washing, proper toilets, stable food supply, nutrition and health status, chronic malnutrition, anemia and parasitic infections in children aged 6 months to three years. Results. 39.1% of families had food security, 37.5% were food insecure without hunger, 18.8% had food insecurity with hunger, and 4.7% had food insecurity with severe hunger. They had acceptable calorie intake, but did not have a balanced diet. There was no chlorinated water. During the episodes of diarrhea, 72% of mothers fed the child with mate (tea) or broth. A great quantity of their crops were lost in 2011. Of children 6 months to three years, 34.5% presented chronic malnutrition, 42.4% had anemia and 61.6% had parasites. Conclusions. Food and nutrition insecurity in this district of Ayacucho is considerable and there should be prioritization of the implementation of investment projects with the aim of contributing to the development of the community</text>

<text>Exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) is a widespread phenomenon in nature. Although the mechanisms of action of EDCs are actively studied, the consequences of endocrine disruption (ED) at the population level and the adaptations evolved to cope with chronic EDC exposure have been overlooked. Birds probably represent the animal taxon most successfully adapted to synanthropic life. Hence, birds share with humans a similar pattern of exposure to xenobiotics. In this article, we review case studies on patterns of behaviour that deviate from the expectation in bird species exposed to EDCs. We provide behavioural and ecological parameters to be used as endpoints of ED; methodological requirements and caveats based on species-specific life-history traits, behavioural repertoires, developmental styles, and possibility of captive breeding; a list of species that could be used as sentinels to assess the quality of man-made environment.</text>

Contabilizamos 1,298 aves pertenecientes a 73 especies, 33 familias y14 órdenes.
