Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic keeps the world in suspense. In addition to the fundamental challenges for the health care system, the individual departments must decide how to deal with patients at risk. Neurologists are confronted with the question, how they should advise their patients regarding immunosuppressive treatment. In particular, the large number of different disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) in the treatment of neuroimmunological diseases such as multiple sclerosis poses a challenge. To a limited extent, it might be useful to transfer knowledge from previous SARS- and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus outbreaks in 2002/2003 and 2012 to the current situation. Overall, immunosuppressive therapy does neither seem to have a major impact on infection with SARS- and MERS-CoV nor does it seem to lead to a severe disease course in many cases. Considering the immunological responses against infections with novel coronaviruses in humans, interferons, glatiramer acetate, and teriflunomide appear to be safe. As lymphopenia seems to be associated with a more severe disease course, all DMTs causing lymphopenia, such as cladribine, alemtuzumab, and dimethyl fumarate, need to be reviewed more thoroughly. As they are, in general, associated with a higher risk of infection, depleting anti-CD20 antibodies may be problematic drugs. However, it has to be differentiated between the depletion phase and the phase of immune reconstitution. In summary, previous coronavirus outbreaks have not shown an increased risk for immunocompromised patients. Patients with severe neuroimmunological diseases should be kept from hasty discontinuation of immunotherapy.

Este artigo tem por objetivo refletir sobre os mecanismos de dominação simbólica presentes no discurso das elites agroindustriais quando referidos à estrutura social no campo e à representação sobre quem são os agricultores familiares e quais suas aptidões, potencialidades e (im)possibilidades históricas. Procura mostrar que a retórica das elites agroindustriais aciona as carências à agricultura familiar para impor uma seletividade discursiva que impõe uma hierarquização sobre quem é apto ou não a integrar-se produtivamente pelo estabelecimento de um alinhamento de práticas pela interferência na construção de uma identidade própria, suscitando a dificuldade de construção de um espírito crítico e de percepção das diferenças existentes. Argumentos que se reportam aos interesses patronais agroindustriais e alimentam o próprio sistema de dominação. O artigo também procura mostrar que integração e exclusão são faces de um mesmo processo e se complementam na relação que as negam: o agricultor familiar “vocacionado” reafirma a exclusão do agricultor familiar “sem condição”. A promessa de crédito facilitado e de acesso ao mercado para os “empreendedores familiares” aprofunda diferenças com os agricultores familiares voltados para a produção de subsistência. Ser “ordeiro” e “consciente” como atributos da postura competitiva exclui os agricultores familiares mobilizados na luta por direitos e por isso considerados “desordeiros” e “inocentes úteis”.

The aim of the present study is to contribute to current debates in AgrarianGeography concerning the dynamics of Brazilian rural space as exemplified by the case of Rio de Janeiro State. Rio de Janeiro presently is experiencing rural transformation provoked by the increasing urbanization of the countryside so redefining the geographical concepts of “rural” and “urban” within historical and contemporary processes of capitalist development. Within this general process, organic agriculture has emerged within vegetable farming in the Região Serrana Fluminense. As most vegetable production in this region is undertaken using conventional modern methods, organic farming for the metropolitan market is marketed through new separate channels so as to guarantee product authenticity. In the beginning, farmers were of urban origin, but as organic production expanded in response to increasing urban demand, some local farmers shifted from conventional to organic methods.

El Programa de Adquisición de Alimentos (PAA) es un programa del Gobierno Federal cuyos objetivos principales son incentivar la agricultura familiar y combatir la inseguridad alimentaria y nutricional (Insan). Este trabajo tiene como objetivo realizar un análisis cuantitativo del acceso y la aplicación de recursos del PAA-CDS en los municipios de la región de la Amazonia Legal en el período comprendido entre 2011 y 2019 a partir de los microdatos proporcionados por el Ministerio de Ciudadanía. Se observó que, durante el período analizado, el 83% de los municipios de la región accedieron al PAA y se invirtieron R$ 738,2 millones en compras, lo que representa el 19% del total aplicado en Brasil. En los estados de Acre, Amapá, Rondônia, Roraima y Tocantins, el 100% de los municipios tuvieron acceso al programa en el período. La mayoría de los municipios que accedieron al programa tenían entre 10,000 y 50,000 habitantes, sin embargo, los municipios con más de 100,000 habitantes presentaban, proporcionalmente, un porcentaje más alto de acceso. Durante el período analizado, se observó una tendencia a reducir la cantidad de recursos invertidos y un aumento en la cobertura, dando lugar a una mayor dispersión de los recursos, lo que puede reducir el impacto del programa en cada municipio.

Resumo Este artigo analisou o Programa de Aquisição de Alimentos (PAA) como ferramenta para mitigar os impactos econômicos e sociais da COVID-19 no Brasil. Para isso, foram realizadas projeções de investimentos e analisadas as condições de operacionalização do programa no momento atual. Foi adotada uma metodologia quanti-quali de análise. Na abordagem quantitativa, foram construídos cenários com projeções de investimentos na política pública; na qualitativa, realizaram-se entrevistas não estruturadas com atores-chave na execução do programa. Os resultados revelaram que o aumento de recursos investidos no programa em um cenário otimizado pode proporcionar ampla capilarização dos benefícios. Identificou-se que o PAA é estratégico para o enfrentamento aos efeitos negativos da COVID-19 porque escoa os produtos da agricultura familiar, o que promove estruturação de cadeias produtivas, acesso a novos mercados e indução ao dinamismo econômico, além de atuar no combate à fome e à miséria de famílias que vivem em situação de vulnerabilidade. O programa não só apresenta condições de operacionalização durante a pandemia da COVID-19, como tem se adaptado à realidade atual, seguindo protocolos estabelecidos pelas autoridades de saúde. Concluiu-se que o PAA pode minimizar as crises sanitária e econômica, principalmente para a população mais vulnerável, apresentando ações que vão ao encontro das demandas da sociedade civil organizada e de recomendações de organismos nacionais e internacionais especializados, visando à redução dos impactos econômicos e sociais da pandemia causada pelo novo coronavírus.

The production of organically grown tomatoes in the Amazonian region of Brazil is difficult due to inherent phytosanitary issues. The objectives of the present investigation were to evaluate the productivity of grafted tomato plants (Solanumlycopersicum cv. Santa Adélia) grown organically in Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil, and to assess scion/rootstock compatibility under organic growth conditions. The Solanum species employed as rootstocks were S. gilo (jiló), S. lycocarpum (jurubebão), S. stramonifolium (jurubeba vermelha) and S. viarum (joá), while the susceptible S.lycopersicum cultivar Santa Adélia was the scion. Ungrafted tomato plants and tomato grafted on tomato rootstock were employed as controls. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized block design with six treatments and five repetitions of five plants each. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico do coentro em sistema de plantio direto orgânico sob diferentes tipos de cobertura viva e palhada e doses crescentes de composto orgânico. Foi utilizado o delineamento em blocos aleatorizados em esquema de parcela subdividida com quatro repetições. As parcelas corresponderam aos sistemas de plantio direto com cobertura viva de Arachis pintoi, cobertura viva de plantas espontâneas e cobertura com palhada de resteva natural que foram comparados ao preparo convencional do solo com canteiro e sem cobertura. As subparcelas representavam as doses residuais de composto orgânico 10; 20 e 30 t ha-1 (base seca). O sistema de plantio direto com palhada de resteva natural e o preparo convencional proporcionaram os melhores resultados em todas as variáveis avaliadas na planta, comparado com os sistemas de plantio direto com cobertura viva de amendoim forrageiro e plantas espontâneas. O coentro respondeu linearmente a adubação orgânica, com produtividade de 4.554 t ha-1 a 6.542 t ha-1 quando adubado de 10 a 30 t ha-1, respectivamente.The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic behavior of the cilantro in organic no-tillage system under alive and dead mulching and fertilized with doses of compost. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a split-plot arrangement with four replications. The plot corresponded to the planting system (no-tillage with live mulching of Arachis pintoi, with live mulching of native weed, with mulching of straw and conventional tillage). In each plot the split-plot were represented by the doses of organic compost 10; 20 e 30 t ha-1 of dry compost. The no-tillage system with straw and conventional tillage showed the best results in all variables in the plant compared with no-tillage systems with live mulching of peanut crop and native weed. Cilantro answered linearly to fertilization, with yields of 4,554 t ha-1 to 6,542 t ha-1 when fertilized with 10 to 30 t ha-1, respectively.
