Um dos procedimentos da Agricultura Orgânica (AO) é o processo de conversão, pelo qual a atividade agrícola em manejo convencional muda para o manejo orgânico. No caso do café, a conversão do sistema convencional para o orgânico pode trazer consigo, entre outros benefícios, a independência de insumos externos, menor risco para a saúde e pode proporcionar maior lucro ao produtor. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo verificar a viabilidade econômica da produção orgânica de café no Sítio Terra Verde em Espírito Santo do Pinhal, no estado de São Paulo, para o processo de conversão da técnica convencional para a orgânica. Utilizou-se a metodologia de programação linear para maximizar o lucro e minimizar o custo de produção do café em dois cenários. O plano de conversão passou por três fases de manejo: substituição de insumos, conversão e produção orgânica. Os resultados mostraram que a adoção da técnica orgânica proporcionou ao cafeicultor lucros superiores aos do sistema convencional no final do período de conversão, quando ocorre aumento sobre o preço da saca. Conclui-se que pode ser economicamente viável a adoção da produção orgânica na cultura do café, mas é com extrema dependência do diferencial do preço entre os sistemas convencional e orgânico.

The objective of this study was to analyze influence the PRONAF - Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento da Agricultura Familiar on the agricultural pointers: production, planted area and productivity of subsistences the farmings benefited for the Program in the State of the Paraná, the period 2007 to 2012. The research used a model the regression of panel in data. The selected subsistence of crops receiving benefited by the Program in State were: potatoes, rice, cane sugar, beans, cassava, soybeans, coffee, wheat and corn. The analysis of the relation enters the sum of financing of the PRONAF and the agricultural pointers pointed that for the majority of the farmings the Program had a negative effect, even so very small, on the production, planted area and productivity. However the influence of PRONAF on production and productivity performance of maize and cassava was significantly positively.

Os frutos coletados foram oriundos da Coleção de Fruteiras Nativas e Exóticas, localizada na sede do Pólo Regional de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico do Vale do Ribeira (SP), município de Pariquera-Açu. Também emergiram espécimens de Neosilba glaberrima (Wied.) (Lonchaeidae).

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma opção para o estabelecimento de um processo de desenvolvimento rural sustentável com base na agroecologia. Para isto, inicialmente é feita uma análise do processo de difusão, no Brasil, de sistemas de produção agroecológicos. Posteriormente, discutem-se o conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável e as possibilidades de sua implementação diante das dificuldades que se apresentam com a globalização da economia. Em seqüência são apresentadas questões relacionadas às demandas de políticas públicas para a implementação de um processo de desenvolvimento rural sustentável, com base na ação local, que tenha por mote sistemas de produção agroecológicos. Apresentam-se, então, algumas premissas e recomendações gerais para a implementação desse processo. Conclui-se que o encaminhamento proposto somente será possível com uma ação duradoura e integrada dos diferentes níveis de ação do poder público, associada ao envolvimento efetivo da sociedade na construção de soluções.This article aims to present an option for establishment of agroecological based sustainable rural development. Initially, an analysis is made of the process of diffusion of agroecological production systems in Brazil. Afterwards, the concept of sustainable development and possibilities of its accomplishment in relation to the difficulties brought by global economy is discussed. Following this, some questions are presented about public policy demands for the accomplishment of sustainable rural development, based at local action and related to agroecological production systems. Some premises and general recommendations are also presented for the accomplishment of this process. It is concluded that the execution of the proposal ideas only will be possible with enduring and integrated action of the different levels of action by public authorities, associated with real involvement of the society in the building of solutions.

O trabalho avalia o uso de técnicas agroecológicas pela produção familiar na região centro-sul do Estado do Paraná. Utiliza-se a metodologia de diagnóstico rápido dos sistemas agrários, tendo como referência trabalho desenvolvido na região pela AS-PTA, ONG que visa o desenvolvimento de agricultores familiares a partir do fomento de tecnologias agroecológicas. Após caracterização dos sistemas de produção dos agricultores pesquisados e do ambiente social que os cerca, finaliza-se com uma avaliação dos indicadores econômicos. Verifica-se uma relação entre o grau de capitalização dos agricultores e a adoção de práticas agroecológicas, a qual aumenta à medida que se reduz o grau de capitalização, sendo menor o risco econômico da atividade agrícola dos agricultores com maior índice de adoção. Conclui-se que há um potencial positivo da utilização da agroecologia como instrumento para o desenvolvimento sustentável de agricultores familiares, realçando-se a importância do apoio do poder público na dinamização deste processo.The paper analyzes the adoption of agro-ecological techniques by a group of small family farmers in a region of the State of Paraná. The sample of the farmers to be interviewed was obtained by applying a methodology of fast rural assessment and relied on the work of a non governmental organization (AS-PTA) that has the major responsible for the technological change in the region. A typology of producers and agrarian systems was obtained, which made it possible to evaluate the technological trajectories followed. A negative correlation was observed between the capitalization level of the farm unity and the adoption of agro-ecological techniques, suggesting that the latter are being introduced as a low risk strategy to improve the production conditions within a context of labor abundance and capital scarcity. The paper concludes that it is worth to support those farmers in their decision through more focused public policies (credit and scientific research).

Este artigo analisa o processo de conversão para a olericultura orgânica por meio de estudos de caso junto a agricultores com comercialização em supermercados ou feiras específicas, constatando que o Estado sempre esteve à margem do processo de difusão da agricultura orgânica, determinando o estabelecimento de uma cultura de 'independência' por parte desse setor produtivo. Pelo fato de a produção de hortaliças exigir um contato constante com o mercado e o processo de inovação tecnológica, há uma baixa demanda de apoio por parte pelos agricultores, independentemente do estrato socioeconômico. O artigo mostra também que ações públicas destinadas a promover a conversão para sistemas orgânicos têm maior receptividade junto a produtores familiares, em função da maior exigência por mão-de-obra na agricultura orgânica em relação à convencional, resultando em maiores custos monetários para os que recorrem à mão-de-obra contratada.This article analyzes the process of converting conventional horticulture into organic systems. The study was based on a research made with organic farmers commercializing their produce in specialized organic markets. The State has always been absent, having no dissemination policy for organic farming methods, thus contributing for the sector's 'independent stance'. This situation and the specific technological and commercial dynamics of organic horticulture also explain why the farmers have a low demand for state support, whatever their socio-economic level. The article emphasizes the fact that public polices for converting conventional into organic practices are more likely to be successful with family farmers, due to the higher demand of labor by organic farming, which is more costly for those who resort to hired help.

It also points out the need for appropriate technologies and amendments development. Looking at experiences with urban agriculture in development countries, it shows the need for local capacity development and a search for the public sector support, specially of organized groups mobilized for urban agriculture production.

Em Portugal, as ciências sociais têm estudado a agricultura familiar a partir de um modelo de interpretação dualista que acentua as diferenças inter-regionais, marginalizando, até certo ponto, o significado sociológico de algumas continuidades que se estabeleciam (e se estabelecem) entre as zonas do Norte e do Sul ou entre o Litoral e o Interior. O presente estudo pretende, assim, construir uma perspectiva diferente sobre as modalidades de agricultura familiar em Portugal, procurando identificar, num primeiro momento, uma série de proximidades sociológicas entre os diferentes modos de organização (tradicionais e modernos) das famílias agrícolas e, consequentemente, traçar os eixos para um modelo mais complexo na análise dessas mesmas modalidades.The main goal of this paper is to produce a critical analysis regarding the conception of multiple activities in the Portuguese rural society. This work questions the classic vision of the country that delineates a rigid territorial and sociological divisions (for instance, the distinction between Northern and the Southern region) from which it tends to characterize different types of agriculture. Considering this conception, the paper proposes a different perspective that is capable to integrate differences and resemblances, between some of the social and the economic aspects that have redefined the family organization and their work activities.

O artigo analisa as reconfigurações sociais impostas pela necessidade de isolamento social decorrentes da pandemia do COVID-19, assim como as imperiosas necessidades de participação efetiva do Estado na salvação da sociedade para que as carências materiais oriundas dessa crise global sejam razoavelmente atenuadas em prol do bem da humanidade. Some-se ainda críticas aos segmentos políticos obscurantistas e anticientíficos mancomunados com discursos fascistas que tanto ameaçam a consecução das políticas públicas convenientes para a efetivação do papel interventor do Estado na ordem econômica.

O artigo aborda diversos aspectos sociais, econômicos e ideológicos que sustentam a experiência consumista no modo de vida capitalista, promovendo disposições narcísicas na subjetividade do indivíduo que assim se afasta de uma compreensão holística de sua própria ordem social. O consumismo impede o desenvolvimento de uma práxis ecológica e reforça o caráter alienante, fetichista e reificador da produção capitalista, alheia ao empoderamento humano e ao espírito de solidariedade que somente uma gestão política para além do sistema de mercado pode proporcionar.
