                <text>COVID-19 has exposed the global supply chains to great vulnerability. In such extreme circumstances, product availability becomes a primary concern. This paper studies a basic inventory management strategy—lateral transshipment—under decentralized systems, which may play an important role in dealing with stockouts during unexpected crises. Lateral transshipments not only react quickly to stockout, but are also environmentally friendly due to the significant reduction of production and transportation pollution. This paper studies optimal lateral transshipment and replenishment decisions under a decentralized setting. We construct a multi-stage stochastic model that captures demand uncertainty and customer switching behavior. We demonstrate that, similar to the centralized setting, the optimal transshipment decision follows a double-threshold structure. The optimal replenishment quantities are determined under two pricing mechanisms—individual mechanism (IP) and negotiated mechanism (NP). Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the impact of lateral transshipment on supply chain cost reduction.</text>

                <text>India has recently started sequencing SARS-CoV2 genome from clinical isolates. Currently only few sequences are available from three states in India. Kerala was the first state to deposit complete sequence from two isolates followed by one from Gujarat. On April 27, 2020, the first five sequences from the state of West Bengal (Eastern India) were deposited on GISAID, a global initiative for sharing avian flu data. In this study, we have analysed the spike protein sequences from all five isolates and also compared their similarities or differences with other sequences reported in India and with isolates of Wuhan origin. We report one unique mutation at position 723 and another at 1124 in the S2 domain of spike protein of the isolates from West Bengal only.  There was one mutation downstream of the receptor binding domain at position 614 in S1 domain which was common with the sequence from Gujarat (a state of western India).  Mutation in the S2 domain showed changes in the secondary structure of the spike protein at region of the mutation. We also studied molecular dynamics using normal mode analyses and found that this mutation decreases the flexibility of S2 domain.  Since both S1 and S2 are important in receptor binding followed by entry in the host cells, such mutations may define the affinity or avidity of receptor binding.</text>

                <text>Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a new enveloped RNA virus knownas Coronavirus (COVID-19) are most prevalent in humans and wild animals. All four species that isalpha, beta, delta and theta have been identified till date and are responsible for human disease;causing influenza like illness (ILI). This virus has similar lineage of Middle East Respiratory Syndromecoronavirus (MERS-CoV) and related Coronavirus (SARS-CoV). This outbreak initially presented aspneumonia-like illness in a group of people in Wuhan, China. The infection was said to be caused byseafood and unusual animals in the wholesale markets of this city. SARS-CoV-2 is highly infectious andhas resulted in a rapid pandemic. As of now it has spread to 197 countries with total no of cases inthe world being 3.76 million as of early march. The mortality till now is 7.11% . The cases have beenincreasing since its first discovery in China. In India also the number has been increased. Till nowIndia has total of 39,980 cases and mortality is attributed to be 3.26%. As per data from Ministry ofhealth and family welfare (MoHFW) death is more commonly seen in males with age &gt;60years. Amongthese most of the deaths were related to other co-morbid conditions. This article will help the readerswith an overview of novel Coronavirus spanning around the clinical features, diagnostic modalities,treatment strategies and infection control measures. It will also help in raising awareness amonghealthcare workers regarding COVID-19 and aid in early recognition of these patients.                 <text>Coronaviruses (CoVs) are responsible for causing economically significant diseases both in animals andhumans. The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), causing CoronavirusDiseases (COVID-19), outbreak has become the first pandemic of the 21st century and is the deadliestpandemic after the 1918 Spanish Flu. Except, the two previous epidemics, SARS-CoV (2002 epidemic,China) and MERS-CoV (2012 epidemic, Middle Eastern region), CoVs are known the world over as themild pathogens of humans and animals. Despite several measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic,it has affected more than 210 countries and regional territories distressing more than 5.3 millionpeople and claiming nearly 0.34 million lives globally. Several findings point towards the appearanceof the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the humans through animals, especially the wild animals of the Chineselive seafood wet market. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is another example of diseases originatingfrom the human-animal interface and spreading through international borders causing global healthemergencies. Most of the countries around the globe are stumbling due to the COVID-19 pandemicwith severe threats and panic among the mass population. World Health Organization (WHO),international and national health authorities are working with excessive efforts for effective andimpactful interventions to contain the virus. It is significant to comprehend the inclination of theseviruses to jump between different species, and the establishment of infection in the entirely new host,identification of significant reservoirs of coronaviruses. Several animal species such as cats, dogs, tiger,and minks have been confirmed to get SARS-CoV-2 infections from COVID-19 infected person. Laboratoryinvestigations point out those cats are the most susceptible species for SARS-CoV-2, and it can evidencewith clinical disease. The studies carried out on animal's susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 further supportthe human-to-animal spread of the virus. In this review, we focus on addressing COVID-19 infectionsin domestic and wild animals.</text>

                <text>Patients with lung cancer are particularly vulnerable to complications from coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Recurrent hospital visits and hospital admission are potential risk factors for acquiring infection with its causative pathogen, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus−2 (SARS-CoV-2). As immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) constitute the therapeutic backbone for the vast majority of patients with advanced lung cancer in the absence of actionable driver oncogenes, there have been intense discussions within the oncology community regarding risk-benefit of delaying these treatments or use of alternative extended-interval treatment strategies to minimize the risk of viral transmission secondary to unintended nosocomial exposures. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted accelerated approval for extended-interval strategy of pembrolizumab at a dose of 400 mg every 6 weeks for all already approved oncologic indications. Herein, we summarize the evidence from the in silico pharmacokinetic modeling/simulation studies supporting extended-interval dosing strategies for the ICIs used in lung cancer. We further review the evolving clinical evidence behind these approaches and predict that they will continue to be used in routine practice even long after the pandemic, particularly for patients with durable disease control.</text>

                <text>Background: Liver injury commonly occurs in patients with COVID-19. There is limited data describing the course of liver injury occurrence in patients with different disease severity, and the causes and risk factors are unknown. We aim to investigate the incidence, characteristics, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of liver injury in patients with COVID-19.Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted in three hospitals (Zhejiang, China). From January 19, 2020 to February 20, 2020, patients confirmed with COVID-19 (≥18 years) and without liver injury were enrolled and divided into non-critically ill and critically ill groups. The incidence and characteristics of liver injury were compared between the two groups. Demographics, clinical characteristics, treatments, and treatment outcomes between patients with or without liver injury were compared within each group. The multivariable logistic regression model was used to explore the risk factors for liver injury.Results: The mean age of 131 enrolled patients was 51.2 years (standard deviation [SD]: 16.1 years), and 70 (53.4%) patients were male. A total of 76 patients developed liver injury (mild, 40.5%; moderate, 15.3%; severe, 2.3%) with a median occurrence time of 10.0 days. Critically ill patients had higher and earlier occurrence (81.5 vs. 51.9%, 12.0 vs. 5.0 days; p &amp;lt; 0.001), greater injury severity (p &amp;lt; 0.001), and slower recovery (50.0 vs. 61.1%) of liver function than non-critically ill patients. Multivariable regression showed that the number of concomitant medications (odds ratio [OR]: 1.12, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.05–1.21) and the combination treatment of lopinavir/ritonavir and arbidol (OR: 3.58, 95% CI: 1.44–9.52) were risk factors for liver injury in non-critically ill patients. The metabolism of arbidol can be significantly inhibited by lopinavir/ritonavir in vitro (p &amp;lt; 0.005), which may be the underlying cause of drug-related liver injury. Liver injury was related to increased length of hospital stay (mean difference [MD]: 3.2, 95% CI: 1.3–5.2) and viral shedding duration (MD: 3.0, 95% CI: 1.0–4.9).Conclusions: Critically ill patients with COVID-19 suffered earlier occurrence, greater injury severity, and slower recovery from liver injury than non-critically ill patients. Drug factors were related to liver injury in non-critically ill patients. Liver injury was related to prolonged hospital stay and viral shedding duration in patients with COVID-19.Clinical Trial Registration: World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, ChiCTR2000030593.                 <text>COVID-19 hit Italy in February 2020 after its outbreak in China at the beginning of January. Why was Italy first among the Western countries? What are the conditions that made Italy more vulnerable and the first target of this disease? What characteristics and diffusion patterns could be highlighted and hypothesized from its outbreak to the end of March 2020, after containment measures, including a national lockdown, were introduced? In this paper, we try to provide some answers to these questions, analyzing the issue from medical, geographical and planning points of view. With reference to the Italian case, we observed the phenomenon in terms of the spatial diffusion process and by observing the relation between the epidemic and various environmental elements. In particular, we started from a hypothesis of the comparable economic, geographical, climatic and environmental conditions of the areas of Wuhan (in the Hubei Province in China, where the epidemic broke out) and the Po Valley area (in Italy) where most cases and deaths were registered. Via an ecological approach, we compared the spatial distribution and pattern of COVID-19-related mortality in Italy with several geographical, environmental and socio-economic variables at a Provincial level, analyzing them by means of spatial analytical techniques such as LISA (Local Indicators of Spatial Association). Possible evidence arose relating to COVID-19 cases and Nitrogen-related pollutants and land take, particularly in the Po Valley area.</text>

                <text>COVID-19 is a wicked problem for policy makers internationally as the complexity of the pandemic transcends health, environment, social and economic boundaries. Many countries are focusing on two key responses, namely virus containment and financial measures, but fail to recognise other aspects. The systems approach, however, enables policy makers to design the most effective strategies and reduce the unintended consequences. To achieve fundamental change, it is imperative to firstly identify the “right” interventions (leverage points) and implement additional measures to reduce negative consequences. To do so, a preliminary causal loop diagram of the COVID-19 pandemic was designed to explore its influence on socio-economic systems. In order to transcend the “wait and see” approach, and create an adaptive and resilient system, governments need to consider “deep” leverage points that can be realistically maintained over the long-term and cause a fundamental change, rather than focusing on “shallow” leverage points that are relatively easy to implement but do not result in significant systemic change.</text>
