Entre os diversos agrotóxicos utilizados na área, o dimetoato foi selecionado por apresentar maior potencial de lixiviação, segundo o índice GUS (Groundwater Ubiquity Score). Para a quantificação da retenção do dimetoato nos sedimentos da zona não-saturada foi realizado um experimento de sorção. Este último mostrou que, em termos percentuais, a sorção do dimetoato variou de 2.5% a 36.2% (concentração inicial 20 mg.-1) e de 6.20% a 31.0 % (concentração inicial 10 mg.-1). Esses dados comprovam o elevado potencial de contaminação da água subterrânea por essa substância, devido, principalmente, à sua mobilidade e baixa retenção. Devido ao caráter hidrofóbico do dimetoato, que aumenta a sua afinidade com a matéria orgânica, a quantidade sorvida dessa substância se mostrou diretamente proporcional à de matéria orgânica presente nos sedimentos. O pH exerce efeito contrário a este, ou seja, quanto mais elevado o seu valor, menor é a quantidade de dimetoato sorvida. Em relação à variação do teor e ao tipo de argila, foi observado que esses fatores não influenciam na retenção do dimetoato, sendo esse resultado atribuído ao comportamento não iônico desse agrotóxico.On smallholder farms of eastern Amazonia, in particular the northeast of the Pará state, heavy by pesticide applications at industrial half-perennial crops are very common. Due to their large use, mainly the dimethoate, in the catchment of the Cumaru stream, Igarapé-Açu county, we evaluated the retention process of this compound in samples of the non saturated zone, as well as verified the effects of soil pH and clay and organic mater contents in this process. Among the main pesticides the farmers use in this region, dimethoate was selected for this study, due to its larger leaching potential according to the GUS (Groundwater Ubiquity Score) index. A sorption experiment was carried out to evaluate the retention of the dimethoate in sediments in the non saturated zone. The experiment showed that the sorption of the dimethoate varied from 2.5% to 36.2% (initial concentration of 20 mg.l-1) and from 6.2% to 31.0% (initial concentration of 10 mg.l-1). These data demonstrate a high contamination potential of the groundwater by this compound, mainly due to its high mobility and low retention capacity. The dimethoate sorption rates were positively related to organic matter content in the sediments. Among the efforts to reduce the impact of the disease, social distancing has had huge consequences and raised may concerns, from the inadequacy of contemporary urban design to the social inequality of national and regional lockdown. This paper focuses on the consequences that this experience is having on the design of urban public and private areas. Everybody admits that our cities are going to change but, beside the first quick adaptation to social distancing, it is unclear how to rethink today’s urban areas. We start from our previous work on the classification of architectural rules and on the study of how creativity is expressed via architectural rules, to discuss the principles and social aspects of newly proposed designs. The motivation for this analysis is to investigate and raise awareness of the consequences of changes in social practices: given that we are in need for new structures and service organization, we can still make choices and should balance the positive and negative aspects of these design alternatives. The community should be aware, as much as possible, of the intrinsic forces that novel solutions exert on our social system and urban environment. This work shows just one way to analyse architectural design, and should be considered as a contribution to a much needed broad and inclusive discussion about how we want urban spaces to be. Recently, the publication of 5-year survival rates has cemented the role of ICPIs in NSCLC. An ongoing challenge is to determine the optimal treatment duration to find the balance between efficacy, toxicity and cost. From the onset of ICPI trials, different durations were used, ranging from treatment until progression or toxicity, to fixed durations of 2 years. Experience to navigate change is something you get just after you needed it, unless you tap into age-old experience. The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is bringing about wide-ranging changes. With people having to adjust, the question is whether Christianity, with its roots in preindustrial times, may support people to navigate these changes. This conceptual article focusses on the relationships amongst constructs, exploring logical arguments about how these constructs are associated. The 4IR is briefly described from differing vantage points, as to whether it is a valid description thereof. Whether a revolution or evolution, it is a complex system, and therefore the theory of complex systems is used, with the conclusion that one may merely participate in such systems. Being novel situations, one needs to participate creatively, based on a cognitive understanding of creativity. Creative solutions do not materialise out of thin air but are the novel use of existing knowledge structures. Christian traditions include institutional memories of how people managed situations of radical change, as reflected in Genesis 1 and Lamentations 4. These passages provide building blocks that may be used in creative coping strategies during times of change. Both passages suggest the strategy to juxtapose order and chaos, and borrowing from that, a ‘Grip-Grapple-Grow’ scaffolding system is suggested. To test the usability thereof, the issue of face masks during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic was touched upon, to evaluate how the interplay amongst 4IR, disruption, (Christian) beliefs and technological advancement may play out. Contribution: The Fourth Industrial Revolution is speeding up the pace of change, with people having to adapt. This article explores processes of change management, juxtaposing the theory of complex systems, the cognitive science understanding of creativity and institutional memories afforded by some Christian traditions reflecting on how people managed order and chaos.
