El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto del perifiton sobre el desempeño productivo del policultivo Piaractus sp. (cachama híbrida) y Prochilodus magdalenae (bocachico) en SAAI en la comunidad Indígena de Jimaín, Colombia. Se sembraron 1,5 alevinos de cachama híbrida y 1,5 bocachicos/m2, con peso promedio de 0,49 ± 0,14 g y 1,83 ±1,61 g respectivamente, en seis estaques en tierra de 90 m2 tres de los cuales contaron con varas de madera (3 varas/m2) para la fijación de perifiton. La duración del cultivo fue de 135 días. Los tratamientos (CS: con sustrato y SS: sin sustratos) recibieron una dieta suplementaria dos veces al día, calculada como porcentaje de la biomasa con ajuste quincenal. Se realizaron biometrías quincenales. Los datos productivos por especie y para el policultivo se evaluaron mediante ANOVA con un modelo lineal general (p < 0,05). Los datos de peso (g) y longitud estándar (cm) por especie se evaluaron mediante un modelo mixto de medidas repetidas. No se encontraron efectos del sustrato sobre los parámetros productivos analizados tanto para cada especie, como para el policultivo. Se presentó interacción significativa para el peso del bocachico el día 90 (CS: 74,7 y SS: 47,1). Según los resultados obtenidos, la utilización de perifiton y el manejo en policultivo de especies nativas requiere más estudios. This perspective article disseminates the perspectives of the authors regarding the use of novel biosensors and intelligent algorithms embodied in wearable IoMT frameworks for tackling this issue. We discuss how with the use of smart IoMT wearables certain biomarkers can be tracked for detection of COVID-19 in exposed individuals. El objeto de este trabajo fue analizar muestras de flujos vaginales para identificar la etiología infecciosa y su relación con factores predisponentes asociados (dispositivos intrauterinos, anticonceptivos orales, preservativos y antibióticos previos), y con signos y síntomas. Entre el 1/11/01 y el 30/10/03 se realizó un estudio de corte transversal con 400 mujeres en edad reproductiva y no embarazadas, en un rango de edad de 15 a 55 años. En el laboratorio se analizó el contenido vaginal mediante examen en fresco, coloraciones (Gram y Giemsa) y cultivo. Interpretación: 1) normales (sin alteraciones manifiestas y sin detección de los agentes infecciosos estudiados), 2) infecciosos (con alteraciones manifiestas): vaginosis bacteriana (VB), candidiasis vaginal (CV) y tricomoniasis (TC), 3) desequilibrio de la ecología vaginal (con alteraciones intermedias) (D). Los resultados obtenidos fueron: 1) normales, 209 (52,2%); 2) infecciosos, 115 (28,8%), los que incluyeron: VB, 13,5%; CV, 12,5%; TC, 2,8%; y 3) desequilibrio de la ecología vaginal, 76 (19%). La vaginosis bacteriana y los desequilibrios de la flora se asociaron con la utilización de dispositivos intrauterinos, y la candidiasis con el uso de anticonceptivos orales y tratamiento antibiótico previo. The purpose of this work is to analyse samples of vaginal fluid targeting the infection etiology and its relationship to related factors: (intrauterine devices, contraceptive pills, condoms, use of antibiotics), symptoms and signs. From November 1, 2001 to October 30, 2003, a cross-section study was carried out of 400 nonpregnant, sexually active women in an age range of 15 to 55. Vaginal secretions were analysed by Gram and Giemsa stains and culturing was used. Interpreting: (1) normal - no observable changes, absence of the infecting agents studied here; (2) infected - changes observed: bacterial vaginosis, vaginal candidiasis (CV) and trichomoniasis (TC) and (3) imbalance in vagina ecology, with medium alterations (D). Results obtained: (1) normal: 209 (52.2%); infected: 115 (28.8%) including 13.5%VB, 12.5% CV, 2.8% TC, and (3) 76 (19%) with imbalance of vagina ecology. Mazet, Stacey Schultz-Cherry Description An account of the resource The evolutionary origins of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus (MERS-CoV) are unknown. Current evidence suggests that insectivorous bats are likely to be the original source, as several 2c CoVs have been described from various species in the family Vespertilionidae. Here, we describe a MERS-like CoV identified from a Pipistrellus cf. hesperidus bat sampled in Uganda (strain PREDICT/PDF-2180), further supporting the hypothesis that bats are the evolutionary source of MERS-CoV. Phylogenetic analysis showed that PREDICT/PDF-2180 is closely related to MERS-CoV across much of its genome, consistent with a common ancestry; however, the spike protein was highly divergent (46% amino acid identity), suggesting that the two viruses may have different receptor binding properties. Indeed, several amino acid substitutions were identified in key binding residues that were predicted to block PREDICT/PDF-2180 from attaching to the MERS-CoV DPP4 receptor. To experimentally test this hypothesis, an infectious MERS-CoV clone expressing the PREDICT/PDF-2180 spike protein was generated. Recombinant viruses derived from the clone were replication competent but unable to spread and establish new infections in Vero cells or primary human airway epithelial cells. Our findings suggest that PREDICT/PDF-2180 is unlikely to pose a zoonotic threat. Recombination in the S1 subunit of the spike gene was identified as the primary mechanism driving variation in the spike phenotype and was likely one of the critical steps in the evolution and emergence of MERS-CoV in humans.
