En las últimas décadas, una serie de enfermedades han sido relacionadas con el cambio climático en diferentes partes del mundo, sin embargo establecer una relación directa causa-efecto entre clima y enfermedad no resulta sencillo. El presente estudio investigó la relación entre enfermedades sensibles al clima, variables climáticas y variables de contaminación atmosférica en el Distrito Metropolitano de Quito (DMQ). El diseño de estudio fue de tipo ecológico, se evaluó la evolución de enfermedades sensibles al clima en la zona urbana del DMQ a lo largo del periodo 2001 – 2010. Al analizar los resultados, se encontró un incremento en la ocurrencia de enfermedades relacionadas con la radiación solar, enfermedades respiratorias y enfermedades alérgicas. Las enfermedades respiratorias y alérgicas presentaron asociaciones positivas con variables climáticas y variables de contaminación atmosférica en el DMQ. Es muy probable que, en los próximos años, aquellas enfermedades como las respiratorias y alérgicas sean las más susceptibles al impacto del cambio climático en el DMQ.

The Peruvian upwelling system (PUS) is among the most productive regions in the ocean, with high rates of primary production and an intense oxygen minimum zone (OMZ). The main perturbation of this system is associated to “El Niño” (EN), which affects water mass distribution and reduces primary production. Previous studies in the PUS provided first insights into the dynamics of dissolved organic matter (DOM), but high-resolution studies involving the molecular characterization of the DOM pool to reveal the processes that affect the carbon cycle in this highly productive system are lacking. We characterized the molecular composition of solid-phase extractable DOM (SPE-DOM) in the coastal upwelling system off Central Peru and linked it to specific processes that affect DOM cycling. Seasonal sampling (April, August, and December) was carried out off Central Peru (12°S) during 2015, a low productivity year marked by EN conditions. The DOM molecular composition was obtained via Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS). Solid-phase extractable dissolved organic carbon (SPE-DOC) concentrations showed significant differences (p < 0.05) between the water masses present off central Peru. In order to explore if changes in SPE-DOC concentrations were the result of water mass mixing, we applied a conservative mixing (CM) model. The model revealed a non-conservative behavior of SPE-DOC and allowed us to identify two distinct groups of samples with increased and decreased SPE-DOC concentrations, respectively, and one group of samples inside the CM range. Differences in environmental parameters characterizing these groups were in accordance with respective processes associated to production and degradation of SPE-DOC. The trends observed for molecular parameters revealed the imprint of processes related to DOM production and DOM degradation, both biotic (microbial degradation) and abiotic (photodegradation). Our study suggests that even under low productivity conditions like EN, there is an active cycling of the DOM pool off central Peru.

Los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio (MDGs), las propuestas de mitigación y adaptación del Grupo ínter gubernamental de expertos sobre Cambio Climático (IPCC) en sus sucesivos informes, así como las propuestas por parte de Millenium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) no pueden pasar desapercibidos para los proyectos en general y para los proyectos de construcción en particular. La cantidad de residuos generados por el sector así como la cantidad de recursos consumidos (energía, materias primas) en todo el ciclo de vida (construcción, explotación, mantenimiento y deconstrucción) contribuyen decididamente al aumento de la huella ecológica humana. Los objetivos y requisitos para la Dirección Integrada de Proyectos de Ingeniería Civil tienen que cambiar. El fin ya no es sólo la consecución del triple objetivo (plazo, coste y calidad) y de las prestaciones establecidas por el promotor. Ahora existen nuevos objetivos y requisitos de sostenibilidad en los proyectos de construcción. Se analizan las herramientas y técnicas realizadas en el campo de la construcción para lograr la consecución de una construcción más sostenible y se propone un marco metodológico de gestión sostenible dentro de los estándares de Dirección Integrada de Proyectos.Impacts on ecosystem services, due to human activity, are already a fact. The objectives of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the alleviation and adjustment proposals from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in their consecutive reports, as well as the proposals by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) cannot go unnoticed for general projects and for particular construction projects. The amount of waste material generated by the sector, as well as the amount of resources consumed (energy, raw materials) by the whole life cycle (construction, exploitation, maintenance and deconstruction) definitely contributes to increase the human ecological footprint. The goals and requirements for the Integrated Project Management must change. The objective is no longer the achievement of a triple goal (time, costs and quality) and the performance established by the developer. Nowadays there are new sustain ability goals and requirements for construction projects. Tools and development techniques are analyzed in the construction field, in order to get a construction achievement in a more sustainable way; and a methodological framework for sustainable management according to standards of Integrated Project Management is proposed.

A survey of the published records of marine organisms of Bahía Culebra, an enclosed embayment on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is analyzed resulting in a list of 577 species representing 22 phyla. The most diverse groups documented were crustaceans, cnidarians and mollusks in order of species number. The first published record of any marine organism from the area, a polychaete, occurred in 1922, with a peak of published records of species between 1940 and 1949 and, more recently, from 2000 to the present. Several additional taxa are known from the region but there are no published records of their occurrence. This is especially evident for such groups as the free living flatworms and black corals. Additionally, several habitats, including soft bottom sediments, have not been sampled. Because of the paucity of knowledge on the biodiversity of Bahia Culebra, much more research is needed in order to evaluate and understand the effect of climate change and increasing anthropogenic activities.Bahía Culebra es una bahía semicerrada en el Pacífico norte de Costa Rica. Se recopilaron y analizaron publicaciones en que se mencionan especies marinas de la Bahía. Un total de 577 especies en 22 filos han sido registradas, la mayoría crustaceos, cnidarios y moluscos. El primer informe de una especie marina de Bahía Culebra fue en 1922, un poliqueto. Entre 1940 y 1949 hay un pico de publicaciones con especies de la Bahía, al igual que del 2000 al presente. Se han observado algunos grupos de animales de los cuales no hay publicaciones, por ejemplo corales negros y gusanos planos de vida libre. Igualmente, tampoco hay publicaciones sobre los organismos del bentos blando. Más investigación en Bahía Culebra como también continuar y ampliar el monitoreo de ecosistemas y organismos marinos, es necesario para poder evaluar los impactos por la actividad humana y los naturales, incluyendo el cambio climático.

Background: Climate change has implications for health, ecology and society. Urban green areas are a key element in the planning of citie, promoting citizen interaction with the environment, as well as health. Lack of planning and design of these areas as well as the selection of ornamental trees can be a trigger of pollen allergy in the surrounding population. Reforestation is among the programs implemented by the government that have an impact on allergy. Environmental reforestation programs do not take into account the allergenic potential of some spe- cies. In the last 4 years, the government of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, has planted nearly 18,000 Quercus species trees, in addition to an unknown number of Fraxinus species trees that are listed as tree species with high pollen production. Objective: To identify changes in tree pollen sensitization, based on environmental reforestation programs. Material and method: A retrospective and descriptive study was done in which positive skin prick tests to pollen from trees in the interval of 2010-2014 were analyzed, correlating between tree species used for reforestation and increased sensitivity to the former. Results: A statistically signi cant increase in pollen sensitization to species with which Nuevo Leon was reforested was found, along with a decrease in sensitization to the species that were not reforested. Conclusion: Reforestation contributes to some extent to the change in the pattern of positive skin tests and may result in more frequent exac- erbations of respiratory diseases. It is an activity that should always be regulated and assisted by experts in the according eld.

La compactación del suelo ha sido un factor que limita el desarrollo natural de las plantas. Este trabajo tuvo por objetivo evaluar lainfluencia de sistemas de uso y manejo del suelo sobre la resistencia mecánica a la penetración, en un suelo Latossolo Vermelho Álico,característico de la región de Ponta Porã, Brasil. Fueron cogidas muestras del perfil del suelo de 0 a 60 cm de profundidad en una mismamicrocuenca. Los sistemas analizados fueron soya cultivada en suelos con labranza convencional, soya cultivada en suelos con labranza cero (6años); suelos con pastos degradados (10 años de uso) y suelo de bosques. En el sistema de soya cultivada en suelos con labranza convencional severificó una camada de mayor resistencia a la penetración en las profundidades de 10 a 25 cm, representando 3,15 MPa. En el sistema con soyacon labranza cero la camada de mayor resistencia se situó entre 0 y 15 cm, equivaliendo a 3,50 MPa, y en el sistema de pasto degradado la camada se localizó entre 0 y 5 cm de profundidad, con 3,88 MPa de resistencia a la penetración. Los cuatro sistemas de uso del suelo presentarondiferentes comportamientos de la resistencia a la penetración con la profundidad.

Las prácticas agrícolas basadas en el buen manejo de los ecosistemas son promovidas como una buena estrategia de adaptación para las actividades productivas de pequeños caficultores en la región Centroamericana. La diseminación de la información sobre innovaciones, técnicas, instrumentos, etc. entre las organizaciones y productores es clave para expandir y consolidar el uso de estas prácticas. Objetivo. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar la estructura de la gobernanza para ampliar y consolidar el uso de prácticas de Adaptación basada en Ecosistemas (AbE) en agricultura. Materiales y métodos. Se analizaron tres paisajes productivos distribuidos en tres países (Honduras, Guatemala y Costa Rica), caracterizados por la dedicación a la caficultura de pequeña escala. Para cada uno de estos paisajes se identificaron los actores que intercambian información entre la escala nacional y el nivel de los productores. Se aplicaron entrevistas para caracterizar los flujos de información y su posible relevancia para promover la AbE en los sistemas productivos de los productores cafetaleros. Resultados. Se identificaron tanto actores claves como vacíos en la red de organizaciones que inhiben la transmisión de información entre escalas y sectores. En Costa Rica, la capacidad de intermediación de información a través de sectores y escalas es repartida entre entidades estatales y organizaciones de productores competitivas. En Honduras, las capacidades de intermediación están repartidas entre algunas organizaciones de la sociedad civil que trabajan a niveles locales cerca a los productores y organizaciones gubernamentales que trabajan a nivel nacional. En Guatemala, las capacidades de intermediación están principalmente repartidas entre organizaciones gubernamentales, de la sociedad civil y privadas principalmente a nivel nacional. Conclusión. El análisis de redes en estos paisajes cafetaleros sugiere que los tres países cuentan con una institucionalidad similar en el sector cafetalero; en dos de ellos, la diseminación de información para promover la AbE beneficiaría a escalas intermedias y locales para promover aprendizaje entre los productores.

25.000 caves and house-caves exist between the provinces of Almería and Granada, most of them need to restore as per estimates of the Councils, taking part of the vernacular architecture of the region. These constructions, which some of them are millennial, are being referent to new projects and architectural models, as consequence of the climate change and the different energetic crisis of these last years. To the cave houses, as to any other building, they are required for their functional adequacy or rehabilitation that meet the basic requirements established by the” LOE”, Ley de Ordenación de la Edificación, to be considered a home. The realization of a study of the fulfillment of all the requirements for a cave house, would be an arduous task, given the diversity and complexity of these constructions, so this study only tries to analyze the process necessary for its legalization from the point of urbanistic as housing. The study has been focused in the province of Almeria, especially in the locality of Cuevas de Almanzora, that does not count with any specific regulation on caves and house-caves and per the estimates of the Council, it counts with approximately 800 units, very few rehabilitated and many pending rehabilitation and legalization as housing. Resumen Entre las provincias de Almería y Granada existen unas 25.000 cuevas y casas - cueva, muchas de ellas por rehabilitar según estimaciones de los ayuntamientos, formando parte de la arquitectura vernácula de la comarca. Estas construcciones, algunas de ellas milenarias, están siendo referentes para nuevos proyectos y modelos arquitectónicos, como consecuencia del cambio climático y de las distintas crisis energéticas de estos últimos años. A las casas - cuevas, como a cualquier otra edificación, se les exige para su adecuación funcional o rehabilitación que cumplan los requisitos básicos establecidos por la LOE, Ley de Ordenación de la Edificación, para poder ser considerada vivienda. La realización de un estudio del cumplimiento de todos los requisitos para una casa - cueva, sería una tarea ardua, dada la diversidad y complejidad de estas construcciones, por lo que este estudio solo trata de analizar el proceso necesario para su legalización desde el punto de vista urbanístico como vivienda. El estudio se ha centrado en la provincia de Almería, concretamente en la localidad de Cuevas del Almanzora, que no cuenta con ninguna regulación específica sobre cuevas ni casas-cueva, y que, según estimaciones del ayuntamiento cuenta con aproximadamente 800 unidades, muy pocas rehabilitadas y muchas pendientes de rehabilitación y de legalización como vivienda.

El fenómeno del cambio climático trae grandes cambios a las vidas de las personas. Estamos presenciado un crecimiento demográfico mundial sin precedentes, que junto a las grandes masas migratorias por motivos climáticos, políticos y económicos, nos llevan a un nuevo escenario mundial, donde los accidentes y grandes catástrofes son cada vez más frecuentes. Indagar cuales son las estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés en un grupo especializado de rescatistas permite vislumbrar sus saberes pragmáticos. Por medio de un abordaje cualitativo, mediado por entrevistas en profundidad y observaciones participantes, se recuperan las narrativas de los actores sociales. Se propone a partir de estos relatos, construir categorías de análisis. Se establecieron tres categorías emergentes: La construcción de la identidad, así como la construcción de los otros civiles. El uso del humor como estrategia de afrontamiento, así como el uso del humor negro. Se construyo la categoría sobre la comunicación de los especialistas con los civiles. Finalmente se construye la sub dimensión de comunicación de malas noticias. Dimensión que es abordada en otros ámbitos pero no en cuanto los accidentes y catástrofes en el ámbito local. Una sistematización adecuada de los hallazgos aquí mencionados podría permitir estrategias de capacitación, así como protocolos de intervención
