A Ecologia Acústica emerge como uma nova ciência que estuda os padrões e efeitos sonoros de um ambiente, através da análise da paisagem acústica, sendo composta por três fontes básicas: biofonia, geofonia e antropofonia. O arranjo complexo de sons em uma paisagem sonora cria uma assinatura acústica particular, para diferentes ambientes. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar um levantamento bibliométrico sobre estudos em paisagem acústica, nos últimos anos, na base de dados de literatura científica Scopus. Através da análise bibliométrica, observa-se um crescimento no número de publicações associados ao estudo das paisagens acústicas, revelando uma nova tendência desse campo de pesquisa no cenário científico. O estudo da paisagem acústica demonstra-se como grande ferramenta para o estudo de ecossistemas, terrestres e aquáticos, e para a conservação ambiental, representando uma metodologia não invasiva, diante de outras metodologias por vezes utilizadas.

O termo Paisagem Acústica surgiu com o objetivo de relacionar à variedade de sons do ambiente (biofonia, geofonia e antropofonia) e sua influência sobre os processos ecológicos com o conceito tradicional de paisagem. O objetivo deste trabalho consiste na comparação da complexidade acústica de uma área de restinga preservada e uma área de vegetação dominada por Casuarina equisetifolia L. no Município de Cabo Frio/RJ. As gravações foram obtidas a partir de um sistema autônomo, analisados através do software Raven Pro 1.5 e os valores de complexidade acústica foram calculados utilizando um Índice de Complexidade Acústica (ACI), a partir do software R 3.6 version. Os resultados sugerem maior número de registros de biofonia e, consequentemente, maior complexidade acústica na área de restinga, sobretudo durante o anoitecer. Os valores de ACI obtidos traduzem uma alteração, estatisticamente significativa, entre a paisagem acústica da área de restinga preservada e a área das casuarinas, diante da redução da diversidade da vegetação. Por meio do estudo das paisagens acústicas busca-se entender as complexas redes de interações ecológicas, servindo de base para tomada de decisões, no que diz respeito ao gerenciamento ambiental.

El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar los procesos que participan en el desarrollo de la agricultura familiar en la finca Ríos de Agua Viva ubicada en el municipio Sancti Spíritus, provincia Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. Se identificaron las especies vegetales y se calculó el índice de diversidad por el método de Shannon. Se realizaron entrevistas a la familia y observaciones directas y participativas con los habitantes de la finca para el seguimiento de las actividades. Se analizó la seguridad alimentaria a través de la disponibilidad, el acceso y la utilización de los alimentos y la estabilidad en el tiempo de las tres dimensiones anteriores. Se obtuvieron producciones diversas, características de una finca con agricultura familiar, aunque el índice de Shannon para la diversidad de cultivos tuvo un valor medio (2,05). El sistema pecuario es diversificado y está compuesto por tres equinos, 30 bovinos, 20 caprinos y 100 cerdos, y las excretas generadas se emplean en la producción de biogás como recurso energético por medio de un biodigestor de 42 m3. En la finca se han promovido efectos positivos, tanto en la conservación del medio ambiente como en la generación de empleos e ingresos. También mejoraron las perspectivas socioeconómicas y el entusiasmo de las familias agricultoras que pertenecen a la CCS en la que trabajan y en otras de diferentes municipios. Además, en la finca se conservan más de 15 alimentos y se elaboran vinos y vinagres. Se considera que la agricultura familiar es una alternativa que contribuye a la seguridad alimentaria, con características particulares de producción, que aporta al mejoramiento de las condiciones de vida de la población rural.

Pleurotussp. es un género de basidiomicetos ampliamente distribuido a nivel mundial, con especies que revisten importancia, no solo desde el punto de vista comercial por su valor nutricional, sino también por sus propiedades medicinales. Sin embargo, aún son insuficientes los estudios micoquímicos y se desconoce su relación con las propiedades antioxidantes de bioproductos obtenidos de estas setas durante diferentes estados de crecimiento. En el presente trabajo, se determinó el contenido de proteínas, carbohidratos, azúcares reductores, fenoles totales y flavonoides, así como la actividad antioxidante in vitro(ensayos de captación de radicales DPPH y estimación del poder reductor) de extractos acuosos de Pleurotus ostreatusen dos estados de crecimiento (primordios y cuerpos fructíferos maduros) durante la fermentación sólida. El contenido de proteínas, azúcares reductores y flavonoides fue superior en el extracto acuoso de cuerpos fructíferos maduros, mientras que los carbohidratos y fenoles totales fueron mayores en el extracto de primordios. Los valores de EC50en los ensayos de DPPH y los de poder reductor fueron de 1,72 mg/mL y 3,27 mg/mL para el extracto de primordios y de 0,44 mg/mL y 0,48 mg/mL para el de cuerpos fructíferos maduros, respectivamente. Los resultados sugieren que las propiedades antioxidantes de extractos acuosos de Pleurotus ostreatus(primordios y cuerpos fructíferos maduros) reflejan las variaciones en la concentración de moléculas bioactivas, teniendo en cuenta las particularidades fisiológicas de las fases de crecimiento. Ello podría resultar de utilidad para el diseño de protocolos de obtención de bioproductos de Pleurotus ostreatuscon aplicaciones potenciales como antioxidantes en las industrias alimentaria y farmacéutica.

Abstract Background Several lines of evidence indicate that memory loss represents a synaptic failure caused by soluble amyloid β (Aβ) oligomers. However, the pathological relevance of Aβ oligomers (AβOs) as the trigger of synaptic or neuronal degeneration, and the possible mechanism underlying the neurotoxic action of endogenous AβOs remain to be determined. Results To specifically target toxic AβOs in vivo, monoclonal antibodies (1A9 and 2C3) specific to them were generated using a novel design method. 1A9 and 2C3 specifically recognize soluble AβOs larger than 35-mers and pentamers on Blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, respectively. Biophysical and structural analysis by atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed that neurotoxic 1A9 and 2C3 oligomeric conformers displayed non-fibrilar, relatively spherical structure. Of note, such AβOs were taken up by neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cell, resulted in neuronal death. In humans, immunohistochemical analysis employing 1A9 or 2C3 revealed that 1A9 and 2C3 stain intraneuronal granules accumulated in the perikaryon of pyramidal neurons and some diffuse plaques. Fluoro Jade-B binding assay also revealed 1A9- or 2C3-stained neurons, indicating their impending degeneration. In a long-term low-dose prophylactic trial using active 1A9 or 2C3 antibody, we found that passive immunization protected a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD) from memory deficits, synaptic degeneration, promotion of intraneuronal AβOs, and neuronal degeneration. Because the primary antitoxic action of 1A9 and 2C3 occurs outside neurons, our results suggest that extracellular AβOs initiate the AD toxic process and intraneuronal AβOs may worsen neuronal degeneration and memory loss. Conclusion Now, we have evidence that HMW-AβOs are among the earliest manifestation of the AD toxic process in mice and humans. We are certain that our studies move us closer to our goal of finding a therapeutic target and/or confirming the relevance of our therapeutic strategy.

El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar los componentes de la biodiversidad funcional y su contribución a la productividad y la eficiencia de la producción en la finca 'Las Palmitas' (en la provincia Las Tunas, Cuba). Esta tiene un área de 15,44 ha y se dedica a la producción diversificada de cultivos, frutales y animales. Se realizó una caracterización agroecológica y se evaluó la funcionalidad de la biodiversidad, a partir del diseño de un modelo de análisis como guía de la investigación que incluyó los componentes: diversidad de árboles, diversidad de la producción y riqueza de especies. A través del diagnóstico se cuantificó el número de individuos de cada especie agrícola y pecuaria, y se caracterizaron de acuerdo con su funcionalidad dentro del sistema agroproductivo. Las fuentes de información primaria fueron la observación directa, las entrevistas informales y la aplicación de una encuesta semiestructurada, que incluyó las variables de interés para el diagnóstico. Se calcularon los índices de Shannon (2,8) y Margalef (5,70), los que permitieron visualizar la contribución de la diversidad al incremento de la productividad. Los indicadores de diversidad del agroecosistema alcanzaron valores óptimos para los sistemas diversificados, los cuales contribuyeron a la autosufiencia alimentaria, la eficiencia y la productividad. Los resultados indican una relevancia económica y social, que le confiere sostenibilidad y resiliencia al sistema agroecológico evaluado, por lo que constituye un modelo para su diseminación en condiciones locales o similares a las de este estudio.The objective of the work was to evaluate the components of functional biodiversity and their contribution to the productivity and efficiency of production in the farm 'Las Palmitas' (Las Tunas province, Cuba). It has an area of 15,44 ha and it is dedicated to diversified crop, fruit and animal production. An agroecological characterization was made and the functionality of biodiversity was evaluated, from the design of a model of analysis as research guide which included the components: tree diversity, production diversity and species richness. Through the diagnosis the number of individuals of each agricultural and animal species was quantified, and they were characterized according to their functionality within the agroproductive system. The primary information sources were direct observation, informal interviews and application of a semi-structured survey, which included the variables of interest for the diagnosis. The Shannon (2,8) and Margalef (5,70) diversity indexes were calculated, which allowed visualizing the contribution of diversity to the increase of productivity. The diversity indicators of the agroecosystem reached optimum values for diversified systems, which contributed to food self-sufficiency, efficiency and productivity. The results indicate an economic and social relevance, conferring sustainability and resilience to the evaluated agroecological system, for which it constitutes a model for its dissemination under local or similar conditions as the ones in this study.

We are currently experiencing an unprecedented challenge, managing and containing an outbreak of a new coronavirus disease known as COVID-19. While China-where the outbreak started-seems to have been able to contain the growth of the epidemic, different outbreaks are nowadays present in multiple countries. Nonetheless, authorities have taken action and implemented containment measures, even if not everything is known. To facilitate this task, we have studied the effect of different containment strategies that can be put into effect. Our work referred initially to the situation in Spain as of February 28, 2020, where a few dozens of cases had been detected, but has been updated to match the current situation as of 13 April. We implemented an SEIR metapopulation model that allows tracing explicitly the spatial spread of the disease through data-driven stochastic simulations. Our results are in line with the most recent recommendations from the World Health Organization, namely, that the best strategy is the early detection and isolation of individuals with symptoms, followed by interventions and public recommendations aimed at reducing the transmissibility of the disease, which, although might not be sufficient for disease eradication, would produce as a second order effect a delay of several days in the raise of the number of infected cases. Many quantitative aspects of the natural history of the disease are still unknown, such as the amount of possible asymptomatic spreading or the role of age in both the susceptibility and mortality of the disease. However, preparedness plans and mitigation interventions should be ready for quick and efficacious deployment globally. The scenarios evaluated here through data-driven simulations indicate that measures aimed at reducing individuals' flow are much less effective than others intended for early case identification and isolation. Therefore, resources should be directed towards detecting as many and as fast as possible the new cases and isolate them.

Objective: To describe the nutritional food situation of the inhabitantsof households without household utilities connection inneighborhoods that form the upper section of commune 3 in thecity of Medellin. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectionalstudy was conducted. Sample size was 220 households, usingsimple random sampling. Information was collected using astructured questionnaire and using the Latin American and CaribbeanFood Security Scale-elcsa (in Spanish, Escala Latinoamericanay Caribeña de Seguridad Alimentaria). A statisticalanalysis was conducted using spss® software Version 19. Informationanalysis was conducted using descriptive an exploratorydata analysis. Furthermore, a multiple correspondence analysiswas conducted to establish social economic and food profiles ofthe households without utilities connection. The study estimatedan association between malnutrition and household socioeconomicvariables using a chi-square test. Results: We found thatthere are two ways of not being connected to household utilities:one as a result of service disconnection (lack of payment)and the other because of access (high risk housing or outsidethe city's territorial plan). Household population distribution ispyramid-shaped and progressive, where the families are mainlyrepresented by two-parent nuclear families where the head ofthe household has an informal labor situation; they have theirown house and their schooling is no higher than SecondarySchool. Malnutrition variables were associated with covariatesas overcrowding, income level and hut-type housing. Twohousehold classifications were obtained which were householdsfacing moderate to severe food and nutrition insecurity and homesfacing slight food insecurity. Conclusion: Households thatwithout utilities connection in the neighborhoods located in theupper sector of commune 3 do not have the economic capacity,and do not have a minimum setting to improve their healthconditions, which creates a permanent food risk, particularly forunderage children. The basic food basket of the participatinghouseholds consists of food that mostly provides carbohydratesand calories; they eat fruit in minimum amounts.
