Introducción: el uso irracional de antimicrobianos es un problema de salud a nivel mundial, tanto por las implicaciones médicas para los pacientes como por los elevados costos asistenciales. Un número elevado de pacientes recibe terapia antimicrobiana, siendo necesaria la prescripción atinada del fármaco, teniendo en cuenta la dinámica de la ecología bacteriana, la individualidad de cada enfermo y la significación de los costos a nivel institucional y del país.Objetivo: determinar la utilización, el consumo y el costo de los medicamentos antimicrobianos controlados en dos servicios hospitalarios.Material y Métodos: se realizó un estudio exploratorio, observacional, transversal, sobre el uso de los medicamentos antimicrobianos y su costo. El universo estuvo constituido por todos los pacientes que consumieron medicamentos antimicrobianos controlados y autorizados por la Comisión de Antibióticos acreditada para tales efectos, en las salas de Medicina Interna y Terapia Intensiva del Hospital Calixto García, en el período comprendido de junio a noviembre de 2010.Resultados: los medicamentos antimicrobianos más utilizados fueron las cefalosporinas, principalmente la cefuroxima con 4 514 bulbos en las salas de Medicina Interna y la ceftriaxona con 5 982 bulbos en el servicio de Terapia Intensiva. El gasto general por concepto de antimicrobianos consumidos fue elevado (432 914,00 MN), siendo el servicio de Terapia Intensiva el responsable del mayor gasto (312 528,80 MN).Conclusiones: las cefalosporinas constituyeron el grupo farmacológico más empleado en ambos servicios, además de que hubo un mayor consumo de aminoglucósidos y vancomicina en el Servicio de Terapia Intensiva, donde los gastos fueron mayores.

Con el fin de obtener un diagnóstico del estado actual de conocimiento sobre usos de las palmas en la Amazonia colombiana, se revisaron las principales fuentes de información. Treinta y seis de las 41 etnias indígenas consideradas tuvieron registros de uso. Se registraron 82 especies de palmas usadas (78% de las potenciales) y 165 usos distribuidos en ocho categorías; todos los usos se presentan de manera detallada en un catálogo. Las categorías de uso más importantes fueron: utensilios y herramientas, construcción, y alimentación humana. Las diez especies más importantes fueron Bactris gasipaes, Euterpe precatoria, Mauritia flexuosa, Oenocarpus bataua, Attalea maripa, Oenocarpus minor, Astrocaryum chambira, Iriartea deltoidea, Oenocarpus bacaba y Socratea exorrhiza; la mayoría de ellas también han sido registradas como las más importantes en otras partes del Neotrópico. No se encontró ninguna información sobre usos de palmas para varios grupos indígenas, especialmente para las etnias cocama, letuama, piaroa, pisamira y yurí, para las cuales se requieren investigaciones detalladas. Se concluye que a pesar de los vacíos de información, los resultados muestran que las palmas son un recurso muy importante con un gran potencial, y una pieza fundamental para la seguridad alimentaria y el desarrollo sustentable de la Amazonia colombiana. Sugerimos la inclusión de las especies más importantes en programas de manejo y agroforestales, al igual que la implementación y popularización de técnicas de cosecha no destructivas. Recomendamos además que las investigaciones futuras estén enfocadas en desarrollar estrategias de manejo que garanticen el uso sostenible de todas estas especies útiles.

El agua es uno de los principales recursos naturales de los que depende el turismo, más aún en el Mediterráneo, dónde la escasez de agua se ve agravada por los efectos del cambio climático y el aumento creciente de la demanda. Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el nivel de concienciación ambiental y el comportamiento de los turistas que se alojan en hoteles, campings y casas de turismo rural de la cuenca del río Muga (Girona, España) en relación con el uso eficiente y las prácticas de ahorro hídrico durante su estancia. Metodológicamente la investigación se basa en la realización de 580 encuestas a clientes de estos alojamientos. A partir de la información recogida se ha desarrollado un análisis clúster del cual han resultado tres perfiles diferenciados de turistas: muy concienciados y muy activos, concienciados y activos y no concienciados y poco activos. Factores como la tipología del alojamiento, su localización y las características sociodemográficas de los turistas han resultado ser factores clave para la determinación de esta clasificación tipológica.

Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is a novel emerging enteric coronavirus found in pigs. Intestinal enteroids, which partially recreate the structure and function of intestinal villi-crypts, have many physiological similarities to the intestinal tissues in vivo. Enteroids exhibit advantages in studying the interactions between intestines and enteric pathogens. To create a novel infection model for PDCoV, we developed an in vitro system to generate porcine intestinal enteroids from crypts of duodenum, jejunum, and ileum of pigs. Enterocytes, enteroendocrine cells, Paneth cells, stem cells, proliferating cells, and goblet cells were found in the differentiated enteroids. Replication of PDCoV was detected in the cultured enteroids by immunofluorescence and quantitative RT-PCR. Double immunofluorescence labeling demonstrated that PDCoV was present in Sox9-positive intestinal cells and Villin1-positive enterocytes. There were multiple cellular responses shown as changes of transcription of genes related to mucosal immunity, antiviral genes, and marker genes of stem cells and other cells in the enteroids infected with PDCoV. We conclude that the 2-D enteroids derived from porcine jejunum can be used as an in vitro multicellular model for the investigation of pathogenesis and host immune responses to porcine enteric pathogens, such as PDCoV.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo fornecer informações sobre as principais atividades de assistência técnica e extensão rural realizadas por órgãos estaduais e municipais no Município de Taperoá-PB. A pesquisa foi realizada no ano de 2012, por meio de vivências, observando durante os anos de 2010, 2011 e 2012 as atividades desenvolvidas pela ATER no município e a sua contribuição para a melhoria de vida dos produtores rurais. Foi possível observar durante a pesquisa que a falta de informação ainda é um dos principais problemas na condução de práticas agrícolas, sendo estas conduzidas de forma errada. Através da ATER foram desenvolvidas atividades importantes como: caprinovinocultura, apicultura, forrageamento animal, aproveitamento de plantas nativas para a confecção de feno e silagem, e utilização de manejo agroecológico para o controle e convivência com pragas e doenças. O uso desta ferramenta foi de suma importância para o melhoramento na execução destas práticas junto aos produtores, as atividades pecuárias desenvolvidas através da ATER contribuíram de forma significativa para o desenvolvimento sustentável das propriedades. ABSTRACT: This study aimed to provide information about the main activities of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) held by state and municipal agencies in the municipality of Taperoá-PB. The survey was conducted in 2012, through experiences, noting during the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 the activities of the ATER in the municipality and its contribution to improving the lives of farmers. It was observed during the study that lack of information is still a major problem in conducting agricultural practices, which were conducted in the wrong way. Through ATER important activities were developed, among them: caprinovinocultura, beekeeping, foraging animals, use of native plants for making hay and silage; using agroecological management to control and live with pests and diseases. The use of this tool is of paramount importance for improvement in the implementation of these practices to the producers, livestock activities developed by ATER contributed significantly to the sustainable development of properties.

O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido em casa de vegetação da horta experimental pertencente ao Departamento de Ciências Vegetais da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, Mossoró-RN, com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de bioestimulantes na qualidade de mudas de melancia. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, num arranjo fatorial 2 x 5, com 4 repetições. As variáveis estudadas foram: altura de plântulas (cm), comprimento da raiz (cm), massa seca da parte aérea e de raízes (g). Os tratamentos resultaram da combinação de dois bioestimulantes (Fertacty GZ e Rutter AA) e cinco concentrações ()%; 0,25%; 0,50%; 0,75% e 1,00%). Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância, sendo que para o fator quantitativo (concentrações dos bioestimulantes) realizou-se análise de regressão, já para o fator qualitativo (bioestimulante) foi empregado o teste F, em nível de 5% de probabilidade. Independentemente do bioestimulante, as concentrações que proporcionaram a produção de mudas de melhor qualidade variaram entre 0,26% e 0,52%.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o comportamento da alface (Lactuca sativa) hidropônica, cultivado no sistema floating (ou flutuante), utilizando-se biofertilizante na composição da solução nutritiva. Foi conduzido na Universidade Federal Rural do Semi- Árido – UFERSA, Mossoró – RN. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado com fatorial 2X2 e quatro repetições cujos fatores corresponderam respectivamente, duas soluções nutritivas (solução a base de biofertilizante e solução mineral) e duas cultivares de alface (de folhas crespas Grand Rapids - TBR e Babá de Verão de folhas lisas). Após preparo das mudas estas foram conduzidas para vasos plásticos contendo as soluções nutritivas. A solução nutritiva por vaso foi de 4 litros, sendo fornecido 2L/ planta. No quadragésimo sexto dia foi realizada a colheita. As variáveis avaliadas foram: altura de plantas, número de folhas por planta, pesos fresco da planta inteira, peso fresco e seco da parte aérea e raízes. Conclui-se que a cultivar Babá de Verão foi superior a cultivar Grand Rapids, independente da solução nutritiva e que a solução mineral proporcionou maior desenvolvimento as cultivares de alface.
