A supressão de paisagens naturais tem dizimado populações e/ou reduzido a área de ocorrência de muitas espécies de anuros, caso do Cerrado, dado o grande potencial econômico e velocidade de descaracterização por atividades humanas. Por este motivo, inventários de espécies são extremamente necessários nessas regiões que dependendo do grau de alteração ambiental podem prejudicar as atividades de dispersão e reprodução dos anuros. Este estudo tem por objetivo determinar a riqueza e a diversidade de modos reprodutivos da anurofauna da bacia do Rio Tijuco e comparar a composição da taxocenose dessa região com taxocenoses de anfíbios de outras regiões do bioma Cerrado e da floresta estacional semidecidual anteriormente estudadas. O estudo foi desenvolvido ao longo da bacia do Rio Tijuco numa extensão aproximada de 80 km. Através de quatro métodos de amostragem, foram registradas 40 espécies de anuros pertencentes a seis famílias, o que corresponde a 20% das espécies de anuros registradas para o Cerrado. As condições da paisagem favorecem espécies mais tolerantes e adaptadas ao clima mais seco, o que reflete numa taxocenose que possui baixa proporção de modos reprodutivos e uma elevada representatividade de modos generalizados, dependentes de água ou com adaptações contra dessecação. Em comparação com outras 15 localidades verificou-se que a anurofauna do Cerrado é típica, com baixa similaridade taxonômica com ecossistemas adjacentes. A diversidade de habitats e a expressiva riqueza de espécies tornam a bacia do Rio Tijuco de grande importância para a conservação da anurofauna do bioma Cerrado.

The COVID-19 health crisis has had a global effect, but the consequences in the different countries affected have been very different. In Spain, in a short period of time, health professionals went from a situation of stability to living with a working environment characterized by overcrowded hospitals, lack of individual protection equipment, non-existent or contradictory work protocols, as well as an unknown increase in mortality. Although in their professional activity health workers are closely linked to death processes, in recent months, working conditions and health emergencies have drawn an unheard of working scenario, with the stress and anxiety they may suffer when faced with the death of their patients. The present quantitative research was carried out in different hospitals in Spain on health professionals during the month of April 2020. Through the subscale of anxiety in the face of the death of others, developed by Collett–Lester, it has been verified that health professionals have had to develop their work in a context of precariousness, putting at risk both their individual and collective health, notably increasing anxiety in the face of the death of their patients. The predictive variables of this anxiety have been the absence of individual protection equipment, as well as high levels in the burnout subscales of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization.

Abstract Background The purpose was to analyse the associations between dental and trait anxiety, fear of COVID-19 and the duration and frequency of spontaneous hand-to-face contact (self-contact). Methods A cross-sectional design was carried out with 128 adult patients from four dental clinics in Madrid, during the confinement, from March 15 to May 15. The patients’ movements in the waiting room were monitored with Microsoft Kinect Software, also completed the Trait anxiety subscale of the STAI, the COVID-19 Fear and the S-DAI questionnaire. Results Associations were observed between the duration and frequency of facial, mask and eye contact with trait anxiety and dental fear was determined only by the frequency of this self-contact. Trait anxiety is associated with dental anxiety and with fear of COVID-19. Although facial self-contact is higher in women, it also rises in men as dental fear increases. Moreover, dental anxiety is a good predictor of trait anxiety and the incidence of facial self-contact. Conclusions Understanding the possible associations between biopsychosocial factors, such as trait anxiety, dental anxiety and self-contact is important. It may help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the population as well as enabling the formulation of effective interventions to improve oral health care through the implementation of dental care programmes.

Aim: This study aims to determine the anxiety, personal protective behaviors, and related factors in Turkish society during the COVID-19 pandemic.Patients and Methods: The sample consisted of 617 volunteer participants aged 18 to 75, living in the community and literate. Research approval, purpose, and questions were delivered to individuals in an online environment using a link and forms were collected by asking the participants to send back the completed questionnaires to the online environment. A COVID-19 data form and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-State) were used to collect the data.Results: The study evaluated data from the 617 participants: 59.48% (n = 367) of the study participants were female and 40.52% (n = 250) were male. We found increased anxiety levels in the participants, with high levels of anxiety in 30.79% (n = 190). The main personal protective behavior was “washing hands frequently” (84.76%). Personal distance and mask usage rates were low (8.6% and 5.02%, respectively). We found higher anxiety levels in men (p = 0.008), people with chronic diseases (p = 0.003), the elderly (p<0.001) and those with lower education levels (p<0.001). We found higher levels of anxiety in those showing avoidance behaviors.Conclusions: The results of our study show that psychological consequences should be considered in addition to the physical outcomes of the COVID-19 outbreak and that some subgroups have a higher risk of anxiety. People who require professional support should be identified and psychological support should be planned.

COVID-19 is a novel disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 which has conquered the world rapidly resulting in a pandemic that massively impacts our health, social activities, and economy. It is likely that vaccination is the only way to form “herd immunity” and restore the world to normal. Here we developed a vaccine candidate for COVID-19 based on the virus-like particle AP205 displaying the spike receptor binding motif (RBM), which is the major target of neutralizing antibodies in convalescent patients. To this end, we genetically fused the RBM domain of SARS-CoV-2 to the C terminus of AP205 of dimerized capsid proteins. The fused VLPs were expressed in E. coli, which resulted in insoluble aggregates. These aggregates were denatured in 8 M urea followed by refolding, which reconstituted VLP formation as confirmed by electron microscopy analysis. Importantly, immunized mice were able to generate high levels of IgG antibodies recognizing eukaryotically expressed receptor binding domain (RBD) as well as spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, induced antibodies were able to neutralize SARS-CoV-2/ABS/NL20. Additionally, this vaccine candidate has the potential to be produced at large scale for immunization programs.

Las importaciones agrícolas sin restricciones que vinieron con la apertura económica, especialmente las de maíz y fríjol que se hicieron durante el segundo semestre de 1995, afectaron fuerte y negativamente a los productores colombianos, sobretodo a los campesinos. En estudios de caso realizados en la provincia Guanentina de Santander, se comprobó que los campesinos sufrieron fuertes pérdidas en la cosecha de fríjol del segundo semestre del año anterior. Los precios al productor se derrumbaron a casi el 60% de los precios históricos, por culpa de las importaciones indiscriminadas de fríjoles provenientes de Canadá, Ctrína, USA, Ecuador y Perú (sin contar el contrabando que llegó por las fronteras de Ecuador y Venezuela). Los productores colombianos están muy lejos de poder competir con los precios internacionales que oscilaron entre US$ 0,40 y US$ 0,60 el kilogramo, mientras los costos de producción estaban por encima de los US$ 0,80 el kilo. Esa cosecha arruinó a miles de campesinos en Santander, algunos de los cuales emigraron hacia las ciudades de la costa atlántica. Las importaciones de maíz, el año pasado, casi se duplicaron y los precios que recibieron los productores nacionales cayeron en casi un tercio. En 1996, los precios reaccionaron por factores coyunturales de<br />corto y mediano plazo en USA y en la China. La tendencia en los mercados mundiales es que los grandes productores quebrarán la producción de países como el nuestro que<br />dependerán, cada vez más, de las importaciones. Colombia está muy lejos de poder competir con los rendimientos, costos de producción y precios de Canadá, USA y Argentina.<br />El dilema es que ambos cultivos son parte crucial de la seguridad alimentaria del campesinado y del país.<br />Agricultural importation whithout restriction which come with international free market,especially com and kidney beans, durig the second semester of 1995, affecting strongly and negatively the colombian growres, especially the peasants. Some studies made in Guanentine Santander's province, show that the small farmers lot significant in kidney beans harvest during the second semester, last year. Grower's prices decreased around 60% of the historie prices, because of kidney beans importation from Canada, China, USA,<br />Ecuador and Perú (without considering ilegal importation from Ecuador and Venezuela). Colombian growers are too far the compete with international prices which were around US$ 0,40 - 0,60 per Kg. While the production cost was US$ 0,80 per Kg, These harvet impovered thousands of santandereans<br />peasantraies, some of them migrated to the Atlantic coast cities. Corn importations last year were duplicated and the prices which National growers received, dropped down around one trird. In 1996 corn prices rose up in response of coyuntural factors of short and medium time in the United States and China. Trend of international market granes is that biggest growers will break the producction of countries like ours, which will depend more time on importations. Colombia is too far from competing with corn productivity, production cost's and prices with Canada, USA, and Argentina. Dileme is both crops are crucial part of peasantry food security and country it self.<br />
