Antigenic and genomic characterizations of the virus (isolate PHEV-JLsp09) were based on multiplex PCR and negative staining electron microscopy and sequence analysis of the Hemagglutinin-esterase (HE) gene. These piglets were diagnosed with Porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV). Necropsy was performed on the piglets. Major pathological changes included meningeal hyperemia, meningeal hemorrhage and cortical hemorrhage. Minor changes were also observed in other organs. Histopathological changes included satellitosis and neuronophagia in the cerebral cortex. Mice were infected with the isolated virus. Their histopathological changes were similar to those symptoms observed in the piglets, exhibiting typical changes for non-suppurative encephalitis. Thus, Porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus mainly causes damage to the nervous system but also impacts other organs. This viral strain (isolate PHEV-JLsp09) found in the Siping area of Jilin Province in China is evolutionally closest to the HEV-67N stain (North American strain), indicating that this viral strain evolved from the PHEV from North America. Abstract This article identifies the conditions of vulnerability and risk to climate change presented by the city of Pedernales (Ecuador) in relation to water. It characterizes these problems according to four axes: the state of water resources, the forms of occupation on riverbanks, the mechanisms of water circulation, and the sociocultural system of use of this resource. Then he describes how the adaptation approach based on an urban design sensitive to water can reduce the vulnerability generated by pollution of the banks of the main river in the city. From this, it is sought to discuss the challenges that for the local agenda would imply the integral recovery of banks and rivers through processes of ecological restoration and landscape improvement. Frente a esta conceptualización, otra manera de entender el fenónemo es definirla como un proceso dinámico determinado procesos sociales, económicos, políticos, culturales e institucionales. Desde este enfoque el cambio climático impacta sobre una serie de vulnerabilidades previas y de largo plazo definidas principalmente por el acceso a los recursos. La vulnerabilidad se define entonces, como un proceso cuya complejidad no admite cuantificaciones ni generalizaciones entre causas y efectos como las que proponen los sistemas de indicadores. A partir de una experiencia de investigación concreta en las cuencas de los ríos Mendoza, en Argentina, y Chinchiná, en Colombia este artículo demuestra las limitaciones que el uso de indicadores de vulnerabilidad social conllevan para la investigación social aplicada. Con base en el análisis de datos estadísticos de uso público disponible en Argentina y en Colombia y de entrevistas en profundidad en las areas de estudio, los autores reconstruyen las dificultades enfrentadas al momento de construir dichos indicadores para demostrar las debilidades de cada indicador para dar cuenta del complejo fenómeno de la vulnerabilidad. Se analizan en particular los indicadores de nivel de ingresos, tenencia de la tierra, acceso al agua, infraestructura tecnológica, asistencia técnica, asociativismo y nivel educativo. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de un proyecto que incide en la vulnerabilidad de la flora. La construcción de modelos de distribución potencial basados en el nicho climático actual y su proyección a escenarios futuros permitió estimar la evolución de las zonas potenciales para 75 especies forestales y 145 de flora amenazada. Los resultados mostraron que un 23% de las primeras y un 43% de las segundas tienen una vulnerabilidad crítica o muy alta.
